At the end of the day if the investment is in finding your happiness and peace, then the money is insignificant if you find what you are looking for. I am 47, but have my plans to end up in potentially Bangkok by end of 2021. Because you have to focus on your dreams and follow your dreams and goals. And yes I love the strong coffee too. :-) Not a bad price to setup a business.

The place looks really nice. The first year is more expensive. Because you go on trips, want to see everything, deposits, buying motorbike, things for home, moving and so on...My first year was same. Now i dont spend as much.

I’ve been to Thailand over 90 times and being married to my Thai wife for 16 years, and it really brought a lump to my throat in your opening shop where I can see one of my favourite bars ever, the Rasta bar there behind you set up in the rocks, I have such lovely memories of that
FYI - I'm a Branding Specialist and just want to say that the coffee shop is great and a big kudos to the 'Instagram Experiences/Moments' that you have created there with the garden, i.e. heart bench, cute animals, cherry blossom trees. Those will be your free advertising shared by your customers. Not many places/people think about those elements but they can be make or break for a shop, restaurant, hotel, etc.
I think you guys are doing amazingly well….I believe that you should try to stretch every penny you got (or had), as much as you can and keep ploughing through. I wish you both all the best of luck and I really hope I’ll meet you one day in the near future. I’ve been living in UK 🇬🇧 since 2005 and I hope 2024 is going to be the year to move to Thailand 🇹🇭.

Me 2 owned a coffee shop in Ireland 🇮🇪 for 7 years . Sold it on . My biggest problem woz staff . I had a real busy place on Main Street next to bank . Rent woz low . But wage bill high . What I learned was you need serious foot fall outside your door for success . Well impressed with what it cost you to set up . Good luck with your new adventure . You will learn a lot in time . Appreciate your honesty in opening up about costs and spending etc. I really like the idea that you have put the spend on UK credit cards, especially if you have no assets in the UK. Absolute worst case scenario is that you go bankrupt and as you say, waste the bank's money. I will definitely be visiting when I next make it to Phuket and hopefully things start to get better so that more tourists can get there. It's probably been covered already, but I think your place would benefit massively from a small breakfast and lunch menu. Obviously only once tourism is back up and running. Employing a Thai chef wouldn't cost too much and your place is a beautiful spot to grab a bit of lunch. I think people would be more likely to drive there from Patong for example, if they were able to stay and have a bite to eat. Just my 2 cents anyway. Good luck as always.

Aim for lockdown ending and torisum opening up then it will work better...... good on ya mate bit different to Main Train :D

Hello, Great video and very interesting. First thoughts, on a budget of £1500/month 13K gives you just under 9 months expenses. If the coffee shop makes enough for you to live on then you have money forever (sort of). You should look into coffee roasting. It adds authenticity to a coffee establishment. That flower heart chair is the sort of thing Insta people like. if you play it right, the Insta crowd will do your advertising for you.

impressive you did this on two credit cards. I live in Thailand and work online, and people say i am stupid for having my money paid into my UK account and paying tax on it etc. But I also know the importance of keeping a good credit score in your own country. as a Forreigner i Thailand there isn't much options for credit, having a financial existence back in your home country is smart

I live on the street and the neighbourhood has embraced it. Lots of expats live in these hills. I drop in couple times a week and it's always got someone there.
My plan is very similar to yours...I will sell my house and there is about £80k equity in it, I will be living in Philippines, i need to make the £80k last until I get my pension in 6 years time...I like your story because you take a chance and you go for your dreams. You don’t need to be billionaire to be happy.
Go for it buddy, I would be thinking to start my own thing with a little bit of the 80k 1/ it will keep you occupied give you something to do 2/ hopefully you can make some money before the pension come Like you say don’t how make loads just to keep you going, plus if you have so much free time you can spend a lot ! See it here guys with nothing to do but spend spend I wish you all the luck buddy go for it and enjoy this life
Good plan but I would make sure to put 15-20% of it away for emergencies as there will likely be at least 1 or 2 of those in 6 years. Find a way to bring in as little as 100-200£ a month online will be huge. That may be enough to pay your rent depending on where you live.
Clearly you knew you started a bit money light for a life in Thailand. I started in 1996 with 100k GBP and some reserves back home, plus chance more offshore work income. Might be you can go back UK to make money if things get tight. Credit card borrow, a bad bad idea. Use your reserve money first.
You work hard all of your life. Why? We do it so when we retire we can actually do what we really wanted to do in life. Richie you and Maybelle are so far ahead because you are both doing this together. You will always have this adventure together and I see it doing very well for you both. We are all wanting to see you both achieve the goals you have set for yourself. This is a great adventure for you both. It is a wonderful Coffee Garden it will be so relaxing and with both of your energies and Maybelle's amazing smile (you have given her that smile) it will be a success. I retired and I have always loved guitars (I can't play a lick) but I went to a great school to learn to build acoustic guitars. When I finished the school I set up a proper shop and bought a bunch of tools both power and hand tools. Spent way more money than I needed to and I ran into some big health problems so it has slowed down my progress. I have been keeping the shop floating and it is my best form of relaxation. I'm still very happy with what I am doing. I honestly have only one regret since I set up my shop. My regret is that I did not include my wife in any of the decisions regarding the shop. I did not even have a business plan. I was just a stubborn and selfish person. I really wish I would have included my wife in all of the choices I made. She is a wonderful and caring person and still stands by me. What I see in you both is that you are sharing all of this together and I see this is the reason that you will have success. You are showing us all that this is how you both work together and honestly nothing else matters. Thank You, Enjoy everyday together and you will continue to have success.

Personally i wouldn't start a coffee shop in normal times. So starting one now with no foreigners is a big risk to take. But good luck with it. Your place looks nice. And your wife seems sweet. Hope it all works out for you.

Hello, Great video and very interesting. First thoughts, on a budget of £1500/month 13K gives you just under 9 months expenses. If the coffee shop makes enough for you to live on then you have money forever (sort of). impressive you did this on two credit cards. I live in Thailand and work online, and people say i am stupid for having my money paid into my UK account and paying tax on it etc. But I also know the importance of keeping a good credit score in your own country. as a Forreigner i Thailand there isn't much options for credit, having a financial existence back in your home country is smart

I live on the street and the neighbourhood has embraced it. Lots of expats live in these hills. I drop in couple times a week and it's always got someone there.

My plan is very similar to yours...I will sell my house and there is about £80k equity in it, I will be living in Philippines, i need to make the £80k last until I get my pension in 6 years time...I like your story because you take a chance and you go for your dreams. You don’t need to be billionaire to be happy.
If you rent and dont use most of your money buying a place you can live comfortably.. more fun in the Philippines 🇵🇭👍🏻🇬🇧

Good plan but I would make sure to put 15-20% of it away for emergencies as there will likely be at least 1 or 2 of those in 6 years.
Find a way to bring in as little as 100-200£ a month online will be huge. That may be enough to pay your rent depending on where you live.

Clearly you knew you started a bit money light for a life in Thailand. I started in 1996 with 100k GBP and some reserves back home, plus chance more offshore work income. Might be you can go back UK to make money if things get tight. Credit card borrow, a bad bad idea. Use your reserve money first.

You work hard all of your life. Why? We do it so when we retire we can actually do what we really wanted to do in life. Richie you and Maybelle are so far ahead because you are both doing this together. You will always have this adventure together and I see it doing very well for you both. We are all wanting to see you both achieve the goals you have set for yourself. This is a great adventure for you both. It is a wonderful Coffee Garden it will be so relaxing and with both of your energies and Maybelle's amazing smile (you have given her that smile) it will be a success.
I retired and I have always loved guitars (I can't play a lick) but I went to a great school to learn to build acoustic guitars. When I finished the school I set up a proper shop and bought a bunch of tools both power and hand tools. Spent way more money than I needed to and I ran into some big health problems so it has slowed down my progress. I have been keeping the shop floating and it is my best form of relaxation. I'm still very happy with what I am doing. I honestly have only one regret since I set up my shop. My regret is that I did not include my wife in any of the decisions regarding the shop. I did not even have a business plan. I was just a stubborn and selfish person. I really wish I would have included my wife in all of the choices I made. She is a wonderful and caring person and still stands by me. What I see in you both is that you are sharing all of this together and I see this is the reason that you will have success. You are showing us all that this is how you both work together and honestly nothing else matters. Thank You, Enjoy everyday together and you will continue to have success.
