I don't understand the connection from Bruce Hornsby's song and that other song. In just that little clip of the other version, the N word was heard. Nothing, using that word, should be accepted in our society.
I not only was under a rock for a few decades, but I was completely in a coma not being able to tolerate the extra sound, much less enjoy music. I was missing so much. Sooo thankful that I heard a song that literally woke me up and I have been devouring new music, artisits, genres and reactions for HOURS at a time. I feel like I am trying to catch up! Thanks for a great reaction!
Thanks for mentioning that, I had no idea that it was his brother on the drums. But you are soo right about Bruce Hornsby and his piano skills and you could see him towards the end - he was thoroughly enjoying his performance - the fact that everything was going so right. A really brilliant artist and I loved some of the shots of him overlooking the piano and it's obviously in such a beautiful condition that you can see Bruce's face and his white shirt reflecting off the instrument - a very iconic image.
I had the pleasure of seeing Bruce Hornsby and The Range at Pensacola Beach back when this song was charting, It was great show! You've already heard Bruce's piano magic and don't even realize it! He did extensive studio work with a huge variety of artists. That was his piano on Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me"! If you do a deep dive, you will find he is involved with everyone from the Grateful Dead to Wayne Shorter, and Pat Metheny. Peace & Love on your musical journey.
I'm always amazed at your knowledge of music terminology and technique, but lack of exposure to really great music. So pleased that you're on this journey now and thank you for exposing me to some artists that I've never heard of, Dan Vasc is seriously amazing I'm 67 yrs old. Grew up on late 50's thru 70's, had kids in 80's, love all that time thru 90's. Country music mixed in off and on. And always appreciated Elvis, especially his Gospel music, nobody sings Gospel like Elvis. Anyway I so enjoy your channel, God Bless you and your lovely family
Had the pleasure of seeking Bruce and the Range ‘back in the day’… they were AMAZING. Bruce is still out and about; he’s played/accompanied many major groups/stars over the years, including Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd. Thanks for featuring his music.. he’s extremely underrated!! (Notice his how large his hands are?? He’s 6’4”.. played basket ball through college and probably could have had a career there as well)!!
Bruce can tickle the ivories with the best of them, but his voice just makes his music so heartfelt and personal. That is not taking anything away from Billy Joel or Elton John, both of them sit in the same throne room as Bruce. Elton's "Tiny Dancer" is so on par with this song...
Just like there are very few guitarists where you know from the first few notes who it is (Eddie Van Halen, Jimi, Slash for example), Bruce Hornsby's playing is instantly recognizable - I don't know how he does it, but you know it is him (even when he is playing on another artist's track).
Bruce Hornsby is very well known for his incredible piano skills that are easily identifiable as his, even when he's playing on someone else's song. This song/video was on MTV all the time back in the day, it's a world class song. Not surprising it caught Tupac's attention.
My dad took my brother and I to see Bruce Hornsby and the Range just as this album album came out in DC at the Bayou. He ate pizza with us out front and was chatting with my dad who was a great guitar player. I remember him being VERY tall and his hands were HUGE. Appeared as though they could span nearly the entire keyboard of the piano but I was blown away. I was maybe 16 yrs old at the time. Have loved him ever since!
Of course the original is better than Tupac!! Why do you think he sampled it. Can't understand why so many people are supriised rappers sample original music and find out it's better. Queen, Led Zeppelin, Phil Collins, Rolling Stones. The list goes on & on.. Be original and no fuss!!!
No matter how good a cover of a song is, it is rare that it is better than the original. A new interpretation is cool, but rarely overshadows the original.
I was a teenager/young adult in the 70's-80's. I also had older sisters that listened to 60's music. I was exposed to so much great music. This inspired me to sit down and play Changes on the piano. My older son was shocked as I usually play classical just to stay nibble.
Bruce Hornsby is greatly respected by his peers as a pianist, musician and person. "Mandolin Rain" and "Valley Road" are another two of his songs that come to mind. Oh yeah, he is from Williamsburg VA in the historic Triangle of Jamestown, Yorktown and Williamsburg (my back yard).
Everyone remembers “that’s just the way it is, some things will never change” But they always forget the most important part- the line that follows: “ahhh but don’t you believe them.” I hope you don’t believe them. I hope you find ways to grow and change. Have an amazing day.
Great Reaction Sebs Duran! Don Henley of the Eagles had a Solo Album called The End of the Innocence and a song by the same name The End of the Innocence which Don Henley and Bruce Hornsby cowrote and of course Hornsby plays the piano on that song and it gives it that extra kick! Hope you can react to it someday! 🎹🙏🏻
This is a great song and this definitely fits in the 'protest' singer/songwriters. Hozier is one of a few modern singer/songwriter who heavily leans on activist messaging. Nina cried Power being one of his most obvious as it's a homage to the singer/songwriter activists who came before him. He's written songs about the fall of Roe v Wade, Domestic abuse, drug addiction, etc. If you like that sort of thing, give Hozier a try.
Bruuuuuuuuuuuuce! He's so good musically and such a nice person, always trying something new. For your personal musical experience try the song Bucket List, totally different. Or to keep it country, well bluegrass, try Super Freak by Ricky Skaggs and Bruce. Check out Bruce's live recording from New York, his band is incredible. Thanks! P.s., if you really want your mind blown, and I'm serial, check out Work S**** Out by Dirty Loops. One of the best bands in the world. I want to stress again that I'm really serial. Thanks again from the deep south of the Netherlands!
!!!ATTN!!!!! You're gonna find 'every' original has more soul and meaning in it's expression, than any remake will ever hold. With far and few exceptions between. Example "HURT".
The original is better most of the time. But there are exceptions; remember Bryan Ferry's homage to John Lennon after he was murdered in 1980? Jealous Guy, 1982 version: ua-cam.com/video/OcJSAxxPF-s/v-deo.htmlsi=pX3EH221hw8BEBEf
If you liked that check out his track "End of the Innocence/Song A/Sun Bear Theme", a long masterpiece where his piano skills just shine all the way through.
You're talking about how you love the piano, somewhere around the 2:38 mark, and all I could think is: wait until Bruce Hornsby gets to the tail-end of the song....
Sebs, this isn’t a comment in regards to this song. It’s a comment in regards to your opening statement about things going on in the world and music bringing us together. Having said that, I’d like you to check out Matisyahu’s One Day, maybe you have heard it, but if you haven’t it’s a perfect song. Just totally resonates with everything going on in the world, 30 years ago, 20 years ago, yesterday..Today and probably 50 years from now. It’s just an absolute beautiful song. If you’re reading this and haven’t heard it. Give it a listen. Put on your headphones, close your eyes and just enjoy. Much love
You do know these guys aren't playing live don't you? There's no amps, no mics and no mics on the drums. So, essentially you're reacting to musicians miming. You might as well be listening to the song and doing your ironing at the same time.
This version came out years before Tupac's. This is so much better. It really bothers me that some artists can't be original and write their own lyrics.
Bruce is a phenomenal pianist he had several hits and wrote many songs. I do have to admit the only Tupac I have listened to in my life is the few seconds that you just shared lol. Naver have been a fan of rap. Keep the positive vibes going, looking for the next one :)
Great review, and I wish more people shared your opinion that others can cover a song and it is really OK to enjoy the cover as much or more sometimes. I love the dozen or so different covers of "Always On My Mind", but my personal favorite cover is done by the Pet Shop Boys. You should really take a look at them, many great songs...
Bruce has performed and done studio work with a ton of other artists from many musical genres, more than I can list. He's a super talented musician and songwriter. I love the opening track" On the Western Skyline" from his debut album. The whole album is great.
There is a reason rappers sample these artists, because they are fantastic. It’s heartbreaking how little music there is in today’s hits
there is some great rock music happening out in the world if only Murica would wake up & notice
And rappers can't come up with banging melodies.
It's just different. I remember my parents thinking the music I grew up with was just noise.
@@singluna888 I agree, there's a big difference between good music and mediocre music
Not really. It's because they like to use the works of others cause they can't create anything musically worthy.
What Baker Street was to 80s sax, this was to 80s piano. Iconic.
Baker Street was 78
I don't understand the connection from Bruce Hornsby's song and that other song. In just that little clip of the other version, the N word was heard. Nothing, using that word, should be accepted in our society.
Wholeheartedly agree!
Sounds better than ever in 2024. Wow. That's great, great songwriting 😎😎☺️☺️
So happy you’ve found the happiness pain joy and sorrow that musician can bring into your life
every note in this song is perfection. The most powerful line is, "Hey little boy you can't go where the others go, cause you don't look like they do"
Very sad !!! 🇦🇷🇦🇷❤️❤️
Bruce's brother's on the drums, I think. I had this album, it's great. Mandolin Rain is so good. His piano playing is incredible.
Thanks for mentioning that, I had no idea that it was his brother on the drums.
But you are soo right about Bruce Hornsby and his piano skills and you could see him towards the end - he was thoroughly enjoying his performance - the fact that everything was going so right.

Always loved this song. You'd also love "Mandolin Rain" by Bruce Hornsby and The Range.
OOOOh - that's my favorite of his.

I was at that concert! Wonder if we actually saw each other.
@@tupelohoney622 Wow, it is a small world!
You must listen to Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" . Bruce plays a haunting, masterful accompaniment. Magical.
Voiceplay does an extremely poingeniet cover of this song. Tissues are a plus.
His piano injects as much of the heart into that song as Bonnie's heartbroken vocals. 😪💔
Rap is not actual music, but this is ❤
Agreed, in general. There are some great ones, eminem is an astonishing talent who doesn't overly sample, for an example.
This can't be improved! The social commentary; "that's just the way it is. ah but don't you believe it." Thanks Sebs.
Why 2pac fans always think he wrote this song?
I'm always amazed at your knowledge of music terminology and technique, but lack of exposure to really great music. Fun Fact...Bruce played the piano for Don Henley's The End of The Innocence. Which is a great song btw.
They co-wrote it between them and so both recorded versions, although Henley's is the better known one.
This was from 1984.......TuPac copied Bruce ❤
Bruce can tickle the ivories with the best of them, but his voice just makes his music so heartfelt and personal. That is not taking anything away from Billy Joel or Elton John, both of them sit in the same throne room as Bruce. Elton's "Tiny Dancer" is so on par with this song...
Pure musical talent from Bruce Hornsby and band. The original is so much better. No contest.
I like when a disc-cover falls and the original claims its place.
Just like there are very few guitarists where you know from the first few notes who it is (Eddie Van Halen, Jimi, Slash for example), Bruce Hornsby's playing is instantly recognizable - I don't know how he does it, but you know it is him (even when he is playing on another artist's track).

All the reaction people go “Tupac” sampled this… I had to look Tupac up, knew I’d heard the name, but nothing else came to mind
Bruce Hornsby plays piano on Bonnie Raitt song ‘I can’t make you love me.’
Bruce H filled in and helped out playing with Greatful Dead after there keyboard player passed suddenly on tour.
Hornsby, a classically trained musician is, as always, incredible. Sebs has a very good ear for greatness when it comes to real talent.
🇨🇦 A mashup of the two songs ??? Why would you do that ?? Just to insult Bruce Hornsby and the Range ? Tupac stole half his material !
Never knew any other version of this song, thank you for exposing my lack of knowledge
Childhood has entered the Chat. Thank you!
Listen to The Mandolin Rain...
Bruce is a PIANO GENIOUS!!
This SONG is From thé 80’s!!!
I love this!!! From Argentina !! 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷❤️❤️❤️
Agreed, wishing you peace and a good life from England.
@@mattanthony2277 The same for you!!!
A master of the grand piano, this shows what good taste Tupac had, he knew great music when he heard it
I just love how his fingers dance along the keys, with great lyrics.
No matter how good a cover of a song is, it is rare that it is better than the original. A new interpretation is cool, but rarely overshadows the original.
You come off disaffected

I smirked when you read the lyrics and commented, “man I love the piano”, and I thought you ain’t heard nothing yet…
One of my favorite songs! Bruce is awesome!
Bonnie Rait, had Bruce H’ with on “I can’t make you love me”. Hornsby played with The Greatful Dead, in later times too.
Everyone remembers “that’s just the way it is, some things will never change” But they always forget the most important part- the line that follows: “ahhh but don’t you believe them.”
I hope you don’t believe them. I hope you find ways to grow and change. Have an amazing day.
Y THINK THE SAME!!
From Argentina!! ❤🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
I loved this song from the start and had no idea until last year that Tupac covered it. Much love to Bruce. His keyboards are simply amazing.
Bruce is 1 of the best piano players in the word imo! I grew up listening to all of the original music that rappers took samples from!
The 80s had some great music and artists.
I always liked Mandolin Rain by these guys. A hidden gem, low key masterpiece
Absolutely agree. Such a sad yet beautiful song.
Bruce Hornsby is awesome! If you really want to hear a bass line, check out Jump Into the Fire by Harry Nilsson!
awesome tune dude
Great Reaction Sebs Duran!
Don Henley of the Eagles had a Solo Album called

Bruce Hornsby and the Range are legit - I'd love to hear your reaction to Mandolin Rain and The Valley Road
Sebs- Bruce is touring. He’s a genius pianist. I’ve got my tickets for April!!!!!
I saw him in bars in Virginia before he made it. Amazing!
Check out a recent live version of this song, he is an amazing musician.
Mandolin Rain & Valley Road are also great songs.
I love, love, love this song. I have a "dare" for you, young man... Loreena McKennitt "The Old Ways" live...

Back when the music has to sell itself. No fancy dancing and sex for sale. Raw talent performing their own music.
2pac basically covered this with a few lyric changes
Tupac sampled "Indian Sunset" by Elton John in his song "Ghetto Gospel" would like to see you react to "Indian Sunset"

There's a reason why the Grateful Dead brought him in...
Elton John called Bruce Hornsby the best pianist he's ever heard.
This song has stood the test of time
Early on Bruce had the choice of music or playing pro basketball. 🎶 🏀 Fortunately for all of us he chose music. 🥰❣
The "End of Innocence"
Cool thing about Hornsby is he can take his songs and play them in different genres and it always feels fresh and new.
The original is better most of the time. But there are exceptions; remember Bryan Ferry's homage to John Lennon after he was murdered in 1980? Jealous Guy, 1982 version: ua-cam.com/video/OcJSAxxPF-s/v-deo.htmlsi=pX3EH221hw8BEBEf

Why is the word sample used? They copied it...plain and simple. I guess that's just the way it is
You're talking about how you love the piano, somewhere around the 2:38 mark, and all I could think is: wait until Bruce Hornsby gets to the tail-end of the song....
Rule of thumb: whenever you hear a big hip hop hit, Google “where was it sampled from?”…because it almost always is!
Take a look at Bruce Hornsby and Bonnie Rait, I Can’t Make You Love Me. ❤️

Mandolin Rain is another song you would like from Bruce!!
You need to listen to the album version. They cut the piano off in the video. The song really needs to heard all the way through.
This version came out years before Tupac's. This is so much better. It really bothers me that some artists can't be original and write their own lyrics.

If this doesn't make you want to learn piano nothing will.
Bruce Hornsby told you the way it is...he got on it.
Mandolin Rain off this same album was the second hit.
Of course it’s a political song.
As much as i like Changes i do feel that 2 Pac should have sampled the original as it has a better beat and piano.
You are kinda a shifty youtuber
Some music should be left well alone, this song is a classic example!
