if I want to ride in DCT I buy a scooter, the manual gearbox is life and goodbye stress.
PS: I respect people who ride DCT

I was wounded in Iraq in 2007 and lost my left leg below the knee. Until a DCT the only thing I could ride was a DCT Can Am Spyder so any DCT or Electric is the way to go for me. I know there are ways to modify a manual transmission for motorcycles but having DCT straight from the factory is preferable for me. I wish Honda would offer it on more models. I hope one day other manufacturers will have their own DCT models to chose from.

First bike, KLR 650. 7 months. US size 18 shoes, size 54 EU? Made shifting really awkward to learn shifting. Especially with 30 years long haul trucking between 8-9-10-13-15 speed manuals and automatic transmission. Harder to undo right hand gear shifting to left foot with clutch left foot to left hand.
At 50, just started riding, I knew how to ride a bicycle easily. Limited home time meant starting over all the time on KLR with few months trucking and a few day riding. I knew if I got over that hurdle I would do well and enjoy motorcycle riding.
About 3 weeks ago I traded my KLR 650 for the ATAS with DCT , followed by a 200 mile road trip my first week after my MSF course. I love this bike. It’s as fun as I wanted motorcycle riding to be. I never rode them as a kid, basically started at 50. If you want to “jump in” to this sport/hobby in your 40’s-50’s+ the DCT will drastically shorten the learning time vs with a manual bike. Especially if you have big feet like me.
Don’t knock it till ya ride it. It shifts buttery smooth every time. Once you get used to it, kinda hard to go back I would guess? With 3 sport shifting modes, auto and manual shifting modes, and a 0-60mph of 3.6, a little something for everyone. Seriously give it a try, you might be surprised.
Couple things to note. First, putting bike into “drive” it’s like fuel economy mode and you will not idle forward once in drive. As it’s kinda still in neutral so you can roll back on a hill without foot or hand on brake. Simply twist the throttle to about 2,300,2500ish to crawl forward/run.
Second. When shutting off the bike in drive, the bike will automatically default to neutral, cannot change, but no need to “remember” to push button for neutral. Hence the parking brake lever being located like an out of reach clutch lever😂
Now go test ride a DCT….go.😂
Hope this helps older people on the fence about starting to ride or not. I love every minute of it. Only wished I started younger since I got my Africa Twin.

DCT shifts smoother and faster than I can but if I want to be in a different gear the paddle shifters are always ready. There are also plenty of modes to put the bike into depending on my mood. 10,000 miles so far and no issues.

Also, the rev matching on downshifts sounds great.

I bought the manual AT solely for the reason that it didn't have all the complicated technology that other brands had. I'm still glad I bought it. (2016 model)

I don't care about any of that nonsense or dick measuring I want actual facts and stats on the differences between the manual and DCT. The engine braking thing is completely irrelevant because the whole point of engine braking is to be in an optimal gear and RPM to accelerate out of a turn or up a hill after needing to slow down but most people just use it as a crutch because they don't know how to manage their rear brake which again is also irrelevant due to modern bikes having ABS systems. I've also been told that DCT is able to switch through gears faster than a manual but that was not taking into account quick shifters which the new African twin has so that ends up being irrelevant. The only thing I've heard about DCT that was notable about its drawbacks is that it will downshift or upshift while you're in a turn and can mess you up but then again I'm hearing this from people that are familiar with earlier DCT bikes and maybe weren't the greatest riders to begin with. I really want to know between the two which is better overall for everything. I'm talking maintenance, weight, mechanical loss, ease of repair, price of parts, fuel efficiency, size difference, center of gravity, 0 to 60 performance, All the technical stuff. If they are completely identical but the DCT gets better few mileage I'm probably going to go with the DCT, or if they're identical but the manual can be easily maintenance in your own garage but the DCT has to be done at the dealer then I'm going with the manual. Like I said don't care about the dick measuring stuff mine is good enough I don't have to measure.

DCT is the only thing that puts me away from buying the new Africa Twin Adventure Sports for 2024 😔 it's not fair that you removed the option of a manual gearbox 😢

I feel it's a great option for some, but the majority of models, aside from scooters, should always offer manual. Yes, DCT, if someone wants it but as a long-time Honda fan and owner, who wants an africa twin adventure, I'll look elsewhere if I can't get it in manual.

not exactly. i can ride manual well. But being stuck in traffic and constantly changing gears is tiresom. I will be switching to dct soon.

I prefer manual. Dct is an excellent Honda technology (also is better for the life of the engine )but i want to decide myself traditional without buttons

    • @StefanSu91
      @StefanSu91 Рік тому +2

Is that your sole reason? You want to decide what gear you're on? Cause you can do that on DCT... Or are you saying you don't like ...buttons?

Buddy, it's not about selecting gears. It's about having manual control. I wrote both before buying like 7 days ago, and believe me even on an off-road patch if I wanted a clutch input(which you will for sure 100% if you are offroading) you don't have that.
Also , I don't think having a DCT makes a huge difference on engine life, you can give it 5% extra life if not nothing , but not more than that.

I rode both Manual and DCT and believe me when I say so these people are lying to their teeth, yes DCT is excellent for cruising, but honestly whenever it is put under complicated situations, it will upshift or downshift weirdly.
This DCT is as sophisticated as a Polo DSG yes the same 1L 110hp polo.
The manual is leaps and bounds ahead because it's manual control.
Sorry, but no thank you I bought your manual Africa twin just 7days ago😂

Honda have had a terribly bad habit of being disappointing. In Australia we received the 600RR at litre bike prices. We only receive the 650R in the neutered learner version. Their fireblade too costs $55K.
About the only half decent consumer friendly bike they offer, within the street/sport range, is their new hornet.
So yeah I'm super disappointed in Honda.
