That's incredible! Were they hard to find? It's sometimes tough to work these things out. On one hand Ed Sanders was on the cover of Life magazine, on the other they were underground and largely unknown by the time I found out about them. Another version of that of that how you hear about how obscure The Velvet Underground were in the 60's, but my Dad who would have been a Senior the year the first album came out once said "oh everyone knew who they were", and he was a super straight arrow Youth For Nixon teenager. So I am always kind of baffled
One of your best videos and perfect timing as I feel America is redefining itself with an open-ended experiment again. Of course I loved when you referenced Kim Gordon and likened her vocals on EVOL and Sister evoking an "icy dream girl" who you'll never have. I especially loved when you spoke of the music on this album as a Dark Lodge/ Communist version of the West. The United States of America, both the band and this album, also reminds me of Stereolab (and they're likewise Commies, so i'd be surprise if they weren't influenced). Anyway, I'm going to finish some wine and listen to the album with everything you said about it in mind. For the culture...!!
Thank you for such a great comment Edwin!! I LOVE the connection to Stereolab! And I think that's totally on the money. We should have a conversation soon about America redefining itself, I would love to hear your thoughts on that
A couple or a few different versions of songs.℗ Originally Recorded 1967 Sony Music Entertainment Inc. Released on: 2008-09-02 Heresy (Coming Down) Osamu's Birthday (Alternate Version) Mouse (The Garden Of Earthly Delights) The American Metaphysical Circus (Alternate Version) ua-cam.com/video/5orVC6DYwfY/v-deo.html
Agreed with everything you said until the end. The American Way of Love is one of my favorite album closers of all time. Combines all of the elements of the record into a sleazy 42nd St parade! Ewww sticky floors!!! Continued with a parody of the horrible place that the Haight Ashbury scene became after the summer of love. Then dissolves into some of the best early tape sampling I've ever heard...to make a mind blowing psych collage!. How much fun it's been...how much fun it's been! The ending has the word "love" repeated over the chaos. Despite all the dark themes of this record, this portrays that there is a glimmer of hope in humanity. Great review all around! We all have our opinions of course! Cheers to you and your channel! I subscribed half way through watching this. Looking forward to watching your Fugs video!
First of all, thank you for watching, and comment and subscribing!! I REALLY do not enjoy bumming out of people's favorites (hence why I probably will never do a 10 Bands That I HATE kinda clickbait video), and honestly I love your description of the song. It's a tough line to walk when I am critical of an album that I otherwise love (Their Satanic Majesties Request comes to mind). I do agree about the glimmer of hope in humanity, and I think that permeates alot of their sensibility and adds another layer to appreciate. I hope that you enjoy The Fugs videos. I tried to be as exhaustive as possible with all the out-takes etc. And someday I will cover their Reprise albums!
Bought 1 of the 1st Fugs albums in the 60's, in Philadelphia. Their albums came in brown wrappers, like some hardcore porn was sold back then.

I bought this when it was released.
Awesome!! As with your comment above, was this obscure at the time? Did you have to go and find it? How had you heard about them?
