    Knife companies need to be praised for shipping a blade with an edge this thin, most pocket knives are shipped with an edge suitable for an axe and it takes A LOT of work to get that kind of cutting performance through hand sharpening.

      the only one id buy is the knifecenter exclusive with the s35vn steel

    • @jamesruth100
      @jamesruth100 Місяць тому

      @@acid6urns I have that one and it's nice, but there are some things to be aware of with the s35vn model that are different. So, first off, the blade stock is slightly thinner (a trait which the damascus versions also share), which makes it an even more slicy knife, but that will reduce the durability even more. Secondly, the carbon fiber scales are very smooth and offer basically no traction; it's not an issue with dry hands, but wet hands or gloves make it an issue.
      If neither of those are strict turn-offs, then you'll probably love it; I know I do. It's definitely not a hard-use work knife, but as a general purpose EDC, it's one of my favorites.

  • @EDCandLace
    @EDCandLace Місяць тому +8

    Yeah a lot of people don't understand just how much or a difference a well formed edge apex will perform over a poorly formed edge. Edge quality can damn near have the same difference on edge retention as the steel it's self will. A perfectly formed edge will vastly increase edge retention as well as how well the knife will strop back. Well done edges are incredibly important to performance.

    • @acid6urns
      @acid6urns Місяць тому +1

      yeah, most of the time even just dropping from 20 degrees per side to 15 per side can almost DOUBLE the effective edge retention of a knife. that’s why i think steels like cruwear and 4v and m4 are so awesome, they already have great base edge retention but are also tough enough that you can take that to a whole entire new level by dropping the edge angle and running them super thin, since they’re all high toughness AND high hardness leading to amazing edge stability and durability.

    There’s a reason ASTM has established a standard for salt mist testing. Mainly, allowing the mist droplets to dry, reduces the periods of galvanic corrosion to minutes rather than hours. Galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals poses much higher risk to the integrity of metals than the presence of salt. Other than that, great video, you are getting more and more scientific. I absolutely agree with the lock actuator feeling "in the way". I couldn't really get used to it or adjust my grip well enough, so I don't pull it out often.
    I'm not a fan of the clip. It's more traditional than the spine-mounted original Vision-R, but I managed to bend mine up something vicious the first time it was in my pocket in a car. From that ride, the clip also developed some twisting play as it's not captured on both sides... but my scales are micarta that's softer than G10, so that might be the reason behind the play.
    You can always "sharpen out" the blade warp ya put in it. It'll be a bit thicker behind the edge, but better than considering it junk. Much more a case for the worksharp belt systems to grind through the damage before you put an edge back on it as I think it'd take hilariously long to do by hand on stones.

    Well Pete I just had a flipper folder , liner lock from china seized at customs Sydney , I’m in qld, a bit disappointed, I was curious as I see you have many knives of this description “automatic “ as they put it . What’s the deal !! Are we allowed to have them or not I was looking on google and it’s not really clear , Ive recently got about ten folders through and this was the first seizure , I’ve even had them come with letters saying customs inspected and opened it and they had the same exact operation as the one they just seized !! Doesn’t make much sense to me ! Anyway a vid covering this would be good for us aussies, you may already have one I’m not sure .. take care mate

    Is there any civivi with a thick blade? They save on steel 😅

    in my experience nitro-v did not well in fighting rust, literally all my 5 civivis have had corrosion issues. that said, they all have that usual civivi bead blast + stone wash finish and not satin.

    Like a member of DBK, you over did it and laughed it off. It does look like a nice knife though.

    Some lucky hobo would still love to carry that kit. Baton bend and all.

    This seems like a really good knife. I’m not really a fan of Civivi knives. Something about many of their designs don’t gel with me and I don’t like hollow grinds that they put on most of their knives. This one is different. The blade design is perfect for food prep which is a lot of what I use my pocket knives for. The only thing I really don’t like are the so called speed holes in the scales. Unnecessary and dumb looking. For the blade try using a hammer on an anvil. I repair and sharpen knives for people. And have seen many horrible edges where someone has tried to use the knife as a screwdriver and such. Careful hammering has worked for me with good results. Thanks 🎸🔪

    Thanks for destroying the vision fg lol. Your test and neeves knives testing on it are great. I probably won't baton it through Pete's hard wood, or any wood though.
    Wish you have the chance to review the mixer doberman and kizer momo. The former I've seen it compared to the kapara ergo wise, and the latter is basically a folding kitchen knife. Would love to hear your thoughts on those if they ever come across your way.

    For a factory knife its definitely got a sweet blade geometry. I guess we can add that one to the list of 'nice things that cannot be had' for people chopping into old, very dry gum trees! 😧

    I've take a hard wood plank, ball peen hammer and tap the edge a bit and try straighten it out. It will never be perfect, but will be functional again.

    I don't like the design right off the bat, just doesn't appeal to me but I watched the whole video anyways. Came for the knife, stayed for Pete. You could probably use a ballpein hammer and your tormek to fix that edge up a little if you wanted to. Not sure what that kind of stress would do to it's edge holding ability though.

    i like the idea of the lock but i realy dislike the blade shape for some reason. i prefer the classic shapes more. This looks like a pocket kitchen-knife for me as well
