Rare Earth one of the greatest bands ever. Sixties and seventies produced the best bands that ever exsisted. There will never be music like this again. I was blessed to have lived and been young during these two magnificent decades. Long live this music.
I live in a place just like the 1 in the song here in the ghetto of Phoenix Arizona and yes this song has a lot of special memories for me and my Mother s place she was born in the hills of Virginia is just like this song as well and I so lov this band and I thank you all for being there and where ever you are and God bless you all.
First time I saw them in the late 70's, was their best show I've seen of them. Top 3 concerts of all time for me (especially since it was in a small venue)!!!
Rare Earth, as rare as it comes. Their music and vocals are deep. Just listen to "I can believe what happen last night". Their quality has always been pure dynamite!!!
yeah. the first concert i attended was Santana with Rare Earth opening for them. 1968. snuckin so i had no seat. had to stand and lean on the front of the stage all night. absolutely amazing.

I love it like I loved the original maybe just cos I love Rare Earth. I welcome the way it's been beefed up. It didn't damage the first one but you can the feel the advancement in the recording technology in this....and why the hell not?
This is a very strong and heavy version for 93 I enjoyed it a lot, but for me the original 1969 version is untouchable, the atmosphere its creating is so real and the best version in my book the 1969 has that magic. Rare Earth seem to capture the mood and spirit of the song the best.
First version of this song I heard was from Edgar Winter's Roadwork, excellent version. This version by Rare Earth is solidly powerful version. I just really like this song, right up there with House of the Rising Sun. Eric Burdon and War also does a very good version.
LYRICS: Tobacco Road - Rare Earth I was born in a dump My mama died, my daddy got drunk He left me here to die or grow In the middle of Tobacco Road... Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I grew up in a rusty shack And all I owned was hangin' on my back The Lord knows how I love This place called, Tobacco Road But it's home, it's really my home The only life I've ever known But the Lord, the Lord knows I loathe Tobacco Road I'm gonna leave and get a job With the help and the grace of God I'll save my money Get rich, I know Bring it back to Tobacco Road Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Aah... Gonna get me some dynamite Gonna bring me a crane Got to blow you up Got to tear you down And start all over again Well, I'll build the town I'll be proud to show Keep the name of Tobacco Road 'Cause it's home The only life I've ever known I despise you 'cause you're filthy But I love you 'cause you're my home Tobacco Road, Tobacco Road You're dirty and filthy Tobacco Road Gonna get me some dynamite Gonna bring me a crane Got to blow you up Got to tear you down Start all over again Tobacco Road Tobacco Road I despise, I despise you 'cause you're filthy But I love you because you're my home Tobacco Road, Road Talkin' about a dirty, low down, filthy place Tobacco Road Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah You're so dirty and filthy Lyrics/Music: John D. Loudermilk Record: Get Ready Published: 1969
I've heard many versions of this song over the years -- try Spooky Tooth's -- but the one I enjoy the most is the early 60's version by England's Nashville Teens. One the first "heavy metal" songs -- even before the Kinks' You Really Got Me.
OMG I just found this and I am blown away. I was around 14 when Rare Earth came on the scene. I thought they were good but I've never heard this gem done by them. This is THE best version. Sorry, I am not or have I ever been a fan of the Winters boys. Too frenetic, except for Free Ride
Yes it´s a nice version, BUT.... Eric Burdons BUBBLING, what a bad comment, sorry! The original soundtrack from Eric Burdon and WAR (not animals!) is a really great work of music too!
I think the lyrics written here are incorrect. I believe the forth line is "loath" not "love". The rest of them are "love" though. Great version, but the original just can't be touched - it's a classic blues tune.
This version didn't even make the truck from the record company, to the record store. There are many remakes of original songs, that are superior to the original versions. This isn't one of them.
Seems like Edgar Winter also occasionally does quite a good job at it. This song has certainly waited all the decades to be picked up by rock and hard rock musicians.
The original. I guess because Rawls went through the discrimination of the south not being able to go through the front doors and having gone through some of what was written. This singer is using almost the same stylistic of the first one being a tenor, not a baritone it's not the same intensity. Is it a good version that is up to what you like hard rock in your face, or the silent intensity of the first. Remember the first no one had heard of this style and the singer wasn't copying anyone but himself which he learned from church and being a backup singer to Sam Cooke. This version learned off this singer. All it is one blast of guitar & electric bass. What is the difference? Guitar, bass & drums in the first song. But the blues is what this is based on, which one do you think sang the blues at the time this was originally performed? Civil rights was just getting starting. I go with the first and not think it's the 'best' of anything but rather the times. Read the lyrics you wrote, who went through it, Lou Rawls or Rare Earth? Slow? Poignant & haunting.
Rare Earth one of the greatest bands ever. Sixties and seventies produced the best bands that ever exsisted. There will never be music like this again. I was blessed to have lived and been young during these two magnificent decades. Long live this music.
Fabulous ..............Most underrated band !
Rare Earth brought the heat, a little bit of funk, rock, jazz, blues . Knocked it out of the box. Had a contract with Motown.
Nice music making me remember and miss 1972
Omg this is the best version of the song that I ever heard. I love Rare Earth with Peter. His voice is so right for this.
Greatest rendition ever!!! In my mind.!!
This is not Peter singing on this recording its Wayne Baraks
I live in a place just like the 1 in the song here in the ghetto of Phoenix Arizona and yes this song has a lot of special memories for me and my Mother s place she was born in the hills of Virginia is just like this song as well and I so lov this band and I thank you all for being there and where ever you are and God bless you all.
Peter Rivera is just a music genius beast, mehn. Drummer and a lead singer same motion? Unreal, period.
First time I saw them in the late 70's, was their best show I've seen of them. Top 3 concerts of all time for me (especially since it was in a small venue)!!!
The moemories of Sat. mornings, listening to good tunes like this with my dad R.I.P.
Rare Earth back in the 70's got me loving R and B.

Rare Earth, as rare as it comes. Their music and vocals are deep. Just listen to "I can believe what happen last night". Their quality has always been pure dynamite!!!

RARE EARTH -The version:Tobacco Road... Wow miraculous!!!
LYRICS: Tobacco Road - Rare Earth
I was born in a dump
My mama died, my daddy got drunk
He left me here to die or grow
In the middle of Tobacco Road...
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I grew up in a rusty shack
And all I owned was hangin' on my back
The Lord knows how I love
This place called, Tobacco Road
But it's home, it's really my home
The only life I've ever known
But the Lord, the Lord knows I loathe
Tobacco Road
I'm gonna leave and get a job
With the help and the grace of God
I'll save my money
Get rich, I know
Bring it back to Tobacco Road
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Aah... Gonna get me some dynamite
Gonna bring me a crane
Got to blow you up
Got to tear you down
And start all over again
Well, I'll build the town
I'll be proud to show
Keep the name of Tobacco Road
'Cause it's home
The only life I've ever known
I despise you 'cause you're filthy
But I love you 'cause you're my home
Tobacco Road, Tobacco Road
You're dirty and filthy
Tobacco Road
Gonna get me some dynamite
Gonna bring me a crane
Got to blow you up
Got to tear you down
Start all over again
Tobacco Road
Tobacco Road
I despise, I despise you 'cause you're filthy
But I love you because you're my home
Tobacco Road, Road
Talkin' about a dirty, low down, filthy place
Tobacco Road
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
You're so dirty and filthy

Excelent V. And you are right, this is the best!! Thks for sharing
Woahhh thanks for upload! Amazinggg!
Saw them 4 times between 1987 and 1992 and don't remember them playing this like this.
I agree but remember their were other great bands like Air Supply.Abba,Pink Floyd and so on.
Группа Jamul тоже не плохо
Greetings from North Dakoa
Cool blues!
Eric

Wow Wayne Baraks sings it awesome!!
My my my. You are the only one who mentioned that the singer is NOT the great Pete Rivera/Pete Hoorelbeke
Pure lass, greatness , superb jam
Actually for everyone commenting that Eric Burdon or Lou Rawls did the original... it was the Nashville teens!
1964. The Nashville Teeens..BUT NOT original ...that was 1960 J D LOUDERMILK !!!
powerful version.
Maravilloso!
they don't make this music any more, just super
WOW !!! SO GREAT YEAH !!!
The original has its charm, this version sounds more modern
Yes it´s a nice version, BUT.... Eric Burdons BUBBLING, what a bad comment, sorry!
The original soundtrack from Eric Burdon and WAR (not animals!) is a really great work of music too!
Agree, Burdon and War is just fucking awesome. The Burdon voice is from another woooorld
I prefer Eric Hudson's version
Is meine Lieblings Band i bin aus Österreich Jahrgang 58
Ein total starker Song!!!
Not bad either ! Although Eric Burdon's is my all-time favourite version, because I didn't know any other till this day! 😅 Shame! 😱
Edgar Winter live version is Truly the Best with Rick Derringer on guitar

Exactly!!
Got hooked on this song today from one o my playlists, love the lyrics. Left me here to die or grow. Is there a woman who covers this?
It would have been awesome if Janis did a cover of this tune she's the first that came to mind after reading your comment

Edgar's version is the greatest by far!!! No one can sing it like him.

Hallo aus Bremen, sehr Geile Version megatoll
but it sure maid my mind

EART is "yours". Thanks.
Bonnes musiques
Buena interpretación , pero creo que la versión de Eric Burdon & War es la mejor .
I don't understand what you are trying to say Mason. Do you like this version or do you think the original is best? And why are you so mad?
Only Edgar Winter can do this song the right way
This version didn't even make the truck from the record company, to the record store. There are many remakes of original songs, that are superior to the original versions. This isn't one of them.
+Hey Joe I kind of have to agree.
You've got to be a Rare Earther 2 understand...
Next to David Lee Roth/Steve Vai version this is the best!
Seems like Edgar Winter also occasionally does quite a good job at it. This song has certainly waited all the decades to be picked up by rock and hard rock musicians.
Edgar and his brotherJohnny Winter did it better back in the 70's
La
Mejor expresion
Whisky, boy.
Good version but Eric burdon and war own this song and imo the only version that comes close to wars is the winter brothers.
There was also a version by a band called Fifth?
soooo???? who does this one the best......do your homework...let me know....
+john burns dAVID LEE ROTH
john burns Johnny and Edgar Winter done the best version
Eric Burdon and War
Burdon's version is much stronger
This is good but I liked Nashville Teens better

no
Definitely has better recording standards than the original, but the tempo of this version is too much of a drudge for my taste.
Boo..🇨🇦
Very good, but Alvin Lee better.
