Say what you want, but I think we had the best Rock 'n' Roll in the 70's.
I actually like all the long versions like CCR"s "I heard it through the grapevine", Vanilla Fudge's, "You keep me hanging on". Especially Rare Earth's "I know I'm losing you", love watching the videos of them playing on stage.
Born in 1950, you do the maths.... Loved that tune then, love it still, right along with the public recording of "I am a man" by Chicago and "All right now" by Free...!
Absolutely some of the best music ever made. Sadly, "screaming" instead of actually having a voice and singing took over and then "rap" came along and it was all downhill from there. Rare are the songs these days that are worthwhile actually listening to, music wise, skill wise, lyric wise.

All thanks to God. Yes, I'm still here at age 73.5. Most of my old friends are not, RIP. Thank God for every breath & heartbeat.
I saw this group in concert in the very early 70’s in New Orleans. The short version was always one of my favorite songs. The extended version blew me away.
Drummer and lead singer was my little league coach. I used to get to hear him play his set in his son's room. Great dude. Massive hands and lungs. Great song with great solos.
Had this exact 8 track in my 1972 Toyota Corolla 1600 Coupe, and my other tape was Sly and the Family Stone...Let me tell you, i played this a zillion times and still love it,,,gives me a rush every time the tempo kicks in,,,oh yeah!!!
Genuine music, 63 years old and still this is legendarily epic to me, you can hear the instruments purely. Best version there is. It’s a pity this long version doesn’t get the reaction it deserves nowadays by youtubers
It was a fantastic time for a teenager. I was 16 then and it was a discovery of music. Which you had never heard of. And such a huge range of different kinds of music. Name a band that wasn't good. Get ready has not lost its power after all these years. Timeless.
In 2020 i'm 79. Just an old woman who studied classical piano, discovered r&b in the '50's when nice, white, good kids didn't listen to black music. Thank heaven to have lived during the years of great, talented, MUSICIANS who expanded the realm of music! This piece shows the creativity that abound for that 25 year period. May the next generation hear, learn, and return to MUSIC, not this crap on the radio today!
It was San Francisco in 1971, and I was smoking a joint of panama Red, listening to Rare Earth, this long version. What a different world back then. I went into The Marines July 12th, 1971.

This is one of the all time greatest groups, the drummer and his solo inspired me to start playing the drums. I've been a drummer self taught for over 56 years, I started playing self taught at 10 yrs old and am still playing now. I miss these guys real musicians!!!!

All thanks to God. Yes, I'm still here at age 73.5. Most of my old friends are not, RIP. Thank God for every breath & heartbeat.
💯👏👍
I have loved this band saw them twice in early 1970 they are the best!
I AM 69. AND Now thats a great snare sound. still a great song goosebumps.
That's awesome
Vintage Memories ....The Most!
Far out!
Thanks for sharing! Way Cool!
Would that be Pete???

I danced Top less for my ole man to Rare Earth 47 yrs ago. To that song....
Had this exact 8 track in my 1972 Toyota Corolla 1600 Coupe, and my other tape was Sly and the Family Stone...Let me tell you, i played this a zillion times and still love it,,,gives me a rush every time the tempo kicks in,,,oh yeah!!!
Played more times than today's national deficit. EXTRAORDINARY!
This song made me miss my first hour of high school because it's play 21 25 minutes I don't know but I could not stop listen to the beat
OMG... in Karachi, 1979, I had a 1974 corolla coupe and this was one of the favorite songs... 🎉

Genuine music, 63 years old and still this is legendarily epic to me, you can hear the instruments purely. Best version there is. It’s a pity this long version doesn’t get the reaction it deserves nowadays by youtubers
Then we are with it and the comments.
Drummer's soooo~lo~ !
I miss this kinda music live~!~
🎶💚🗝💚🎶💃
I'm with ya Paul I'm 62.. and in '83 I was bouncer that guarded the stage at a night club stood right next to the drummer! A dream come true...
This cut is what inspired my love for jazz.
@Burroughs Earl What's not ?
FIRST HEARD THIS ALBUM IN 1970......HIGHER THAN A KITE.......COLUMBIAN GOLD,IF MEMORY SERVES .
The only version of Rare Earth that I'll listen to. You can never top the original. The drummer has a great voice.
The guitar is to,infact the whole album is off the rails Old school
He does
That bass solo! 🎸
Yes, classic, historical!
The drummer killed it on this song absolutely beautiful !!!!!
It was a fantastic time for a teenager. I was 16 then and it was a discovery of music. Which you had never heard of. And such a huge range of different kinds of music. Name a band that wasn't good. Get ready has not lost its power after all these years. Timeless.
This isn't a song, it's an experience! Hot Damn it ROCKS!
I agree--^5.
AMEN!!!
It was San Francisco in 1971, and I was smoking a joint of panama Red, listening to Rare Earth, this long version. What a different world back then. I went into The Marines July 12th, 1971.
Panama Red....oh yeah...let's not forget Meshmacon (Michuacan) & Acapulco Gold & Thai Sticks & Hash Oil......or Lady Fingers & Nepalese Temple Balls hashish.....Brown Organic Mescaline
Forget, this world is over
The Marines... You do 'Nam?
Wow, cool ... I was only 15 in 71 ... live in Central Texas, so didn't do any marijuana but did drink alot of beer...LOL... anyway, for what it's worth, Thank you for your service! 😎👍

Wow one of my favoritas cruising around with the musica blasting from the 8 track 😉
I remember when I first saw this album and thought "No way", there're too clean cut, was I ever wrong. These guys are bad ass.
I always expected a miracle of soots this song is more beautiful every time I put it on for over fifty years ! God I love this song!!!!
rudeman: Society dictated clean cut look for us then.....Tee

Omg found them! Remembering hearing Rare Earth 🌎 growing up in 1970s California as a child & finally! Thank you 💗 🎙🎼
I have this song deep in my soul, in my mind, since 50 years when I was 7 years old. I payed this song in my first drums. I was happy, and my family too. Great remember in my life.
Saw them live in 1975 at Willamette University in Salem, OR. They blew me away--great musicians with a lot of soul.
I want this played at my funeral and pass the weed around....I'm 73 and it sounds great after all these years.....
I was 16 when I first heard this.i am 68 now and it still sounds so good

You're welcome, Dear.
@@Chris-ic6bp Your Mum knew her music!👏👍
@@wimpeters9615 ... thanks for the compliment 😊 ....but it was my music.era... she was more of a Sinatra/Dean Martin coroner's etc... It was my generation that brought in all that great rock music /heavily blues influenced. Ma'aan we had the best music through the 60s and 70s.... l'm still rocking it for the youngsters now. I love to make great Playlists and blast them for today's kids. The more l play my tunes... the less of their downer/trash/hate/crap of their's we all don't have to hear 😊
I was one hot chick (but not a mama) of 20 years old when this song was a smash hit. Now I'm 71 and I still rock out to it - yeah, I can still move those hips!
Only in those days could you hear a 21 minute song, even on FM. But now and then, some blazed late night DJ would slip it in, ever so fine
The entire band just kicks ass through the whole 20 plus minutes of this musical masterpiece.
Reminds me of another great rock classic - "Light My Fire' by The Doors.
Veri vell
Specially when the sax-solo starting HELL YEAH......
Motown RARE EARTH are an amazing Soulful groove Band.🌟👏O-u-ter-sight!!
@@captebbtide The drum solo reminds me of "Key" by the "Guess Who" on their "Canned Wheat" album.
Played this song all day at my senior picnic in 1970...........
Definitely a true awesome band that turned every song into solid gold ❤
IF YOU'VE GOT GREAT TASTE IN MUSIC THEN YOU KNOW HOW GOOD THIS SONG STILL TASTE

Genial Drum
And allways GENIAL ...
The hole Composition of All this ...
I am 66 - and forever Young - with such Music !!!
This is one of the all time greatest groups, the drummer and his solo inspired me to start playing the drums. I've been a drummer self taught for over 56 years, I started playing self taught at 10 yrs old and am still playing now. I miss these guys real musicians!!!!
The drum solo is the best segment of the whole song, I wish I was not in a
apartment complex, this needs to be CRANKED !!!
Eric Washington~ Talk about a heavy hitting band listen to the song ( one fine morning) by light house
@@nancymurphy6727 oh,okay thanks will do.
Wanted to be a good drummer, never made it.
Oh well, I still have the set.
You obviously inspired by one of the two best drummers. The other is Ian Paice.
I remember loving this song, and babysitting and helping my mom clean base housing.... she took me to a a record/album shop in Sausalito... I wanted this album. I still have it today.... determination, appreciation, and a good, patient mamma. She took me there to get my most wanted album, even though she was working hard, to6 - my dad was in the Marines, and was in Vietnam 3 times, and overseas a lot... Okinawa, Philippines, etc.
This song has lived with me forever ❤❤💙💙
I wasn't there but I can feel it cause I can feel this great music and what it means. Thanks for your great and emotional comment Tammy. Peace and love for you and your Familie for all times ✌️🎸🎶💕

Thank you for sharing this. It was suggested by UA-cam after listening to Ten Years After and it made my day! I did not know that this existed.
Possibly the best jam I ever heard.
this song will never ever be boring. I still have the LP bought 1974 :-)
I have too.
True. For instance Smoke on the water is a song that I skip sometimes, this one:Never!
So do I! An old LP, but now I listen mostly to music on YT. Much easier! You don't have to have fancy player, speakers, etc, just headphones and you enjoy the spirit of GET READY like in the good old days:)
got my CD, greatest hits
No scratches or skips?
one of my best teen age songs, and still is - passing the music to my children and grand children with appreciation.
No one makes music like this anymore. So many memories
