Death are one of the originator bands of Death Metal that started in the mid to late 1980s. Their lead vocalist/guitarist and main composer Chuck Schuldiner was one of the most influential musicians of the whole early Death Metal scene influencing many bands that came after them. Unfortunately, Chuck passed away from Brain Cancer back in 2001. He is very much revered as one of the Godfathers of the whole genre.
It's definitely not as heavy. But my introduction to Death was "the philosopher" the first time my cousin and I heard it as boys we were in awe. Slower song than what you just heard but not as blistering of a pace. RIP Chuck
I wanted to see Death so bad. I was too young to travel while he was alive. I did get to see the Total Control Tour in 93. Obituary, Cannibal Corpse (Chris on vo kills) , Malevolent Creation. Best $12 ticket ever.
That One Metal Guy - Jesus dude. It’s a figure of speech highlighting the fact that many death metal musicians were inspired by Chuck. This conversation is why purists are so annoying and dissuade others from getting interested in music. Whether it’s metal, Jazz, or prog rock. Glad we agree that Death is awesome though.
Death IS the reason the death metal genre exists. GOD MODE CHUCK SCHULDINER! R.I.P. You cannot say death metal without saying DEATH Death's early work, Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy were more centered around, blood, gore, death, doom and gloom, typical horror movie subject material. They are the ' adolescent" version of Death. Everything after Leprosy took on a more philosophical lyrical composition, focusing on life, religion, society, addictions, people's hopes and fears, the human condition, so Spiritual Healing, Human, Individual Thought patterns, Symbolic, and The Sound OF Perseverance are more " mature" albums by Death. With the growing of meanings outside of the gloom and doom; incorporation of the human condition and philosophical messages, the musicianship progressed, and Chuck , being not only one of the early founders of death metal as a genre, expanded to also become one of the early founders of progressive death metal incorporating multiple time signatures, arrangements and overall more progressive and complex arrangements as each album was released. Death is and always will be one of my favorite bands.
Great band ... Viva Chuck Schuldiner, one of the greatest vocalists, guitarists and metal lyricists. The lack of his presence today is a huge gap in the scene.
Fabrício Amaro da Silva no doubt, I was broken when I found out he passed and went into a depression about, I bet 2-3 months. His death hit me really really hard. He has always been my #1 music inspiration of all time. R. I. P. Chuck!! The song "moment of Clarity" where he is gripping to hold onto life due to his brain tumor was just so emotional. You can hear it in his solo after Hamm ripps your your face off with his shredd runs and face ripping sweeps Chuck comes in dumping his heart into that lead with so much feel. Probably my favorite solo exchange in any of Deaths songs.
Everything Death did was great. Chuck Schuldiner, who was the Songwriter/Lead Singer/Guitarist, unfortunately died at the end of 2001 of cancer. Every album has it's own flavor and they pushed the boundaries of heavy music, especially Death Metal, of which they are considered by most to be the first true Death Metal band. He was kind of like the Frank Zappa of metal. He hired the best musicians around to play on his albums; the line-ups are always different. My personal favorite album is "Individual Thought Patterns". You should react to song "Overactive Imagination" remastered version. Keep rockin'! \,,/
I actually met Chuck in Detroit. Great show. Check out "Spiritual Healing" Unbelievable album. "Human" and " Individual Thought Patterns" Are a must listen to also. One of the best guitarists and creator of the growling vocals. R.I.P Chuck Side note, completly sober band. No alcohol or drugs. Chuck was a good and happy person who loved his dogs. VERY GOOD GUY WHO LOVED LIFE.
"Lack Of Comprehension" from the "Human" album is where the band really hit their stride (whole album, actually); there's an official remastered clip for that one so you can see Chuck & the guys in action. RIP Chuck!!!
💯% when that song and album came out it was like, holy sh+t! There's a whole new level to this now. "Lack Of Comprehension" and Human set the bar very high at the time for that genera
Black dude who is a huge Metal fan, listen to the song with the lyrics next time. Chuck's vocals improve on every album, especially on Sound of Perseverance, they literally "cut" through the midrange on production. "Spiritual Healing" has to be the one that gives me nightmares, "Altering The Future" or "Together As One". I recommend listening to all those albums by them, Chuck gets more positive and humane around Human and later "Progressive Metal" albums they blend with their signature Technical Death Metal twist, but shows flashes of it in early songs "Power of the Mind". "Symbolic" and "The Sound of Perseverance" easily his most brilliant work as a lyricist/songwriter in more forward thinking-positive subject matter, enjoy sista! 😃
Asian dude here one of my all time favorites listening from Chuck in middle school was the album Symbolic. Had a garage band a did a few cover songs was a good time. Symbolic was probably my favorite for lyrics and somewhat progressive sound back at the time.
You wanted to know more about Death, well here ya go. Death was formed in Orlando, Florida in 1983 by Chuck Schuldiner after his first band Mantas disbanded. Chuck was the band's sole original member for the entire longevity of the group and on later albums opted for session musicians rather than a full-time band. The band released their first album, *"Scream Bloody Gore"* in 1987 and is often considered the first Death Metal album (Possessed's 1985 debut "Seven Churches" is also given this claim, leading to much debate). The lineup for SBG included the only appearance by future Autopsy dummer/vocalist, Chris Reifert, while Chuck recorded at guitars and bass. The second album, *"Leprosy"* was released the following year. This lineup included then-Massacre drummer Bill Andrews and bassist Terry Butler (who now plays in Obituary) and former Mantas guitarist Rick Rozz. About a year about Leprosy was released, Rozz was dismissed from the band and replaced by guitarist James Murphy (who has an impressive resume all his own). 1990 saw the release of *"Spiritual Healing"* , which was different in a lyrical sense as this was more of a social commentary than just full on splatterfests like on SBG and Leprosy. Later that year, the band was scheduled to do a European tour and Chuck was going through a lot of personal struggles at the time and felt the tour was poorly organized, but the rest of the band decided to take off without him to meet the contract requirements. Chuck was furious by this and subsequently fired Andrews, Terry, Murphy and the roadies who replaced him. This was the point Chuck decided to recruit session musicians for all future albums and here, he brought Cynic guitarist Paul Masvidal and drummer Sean Reinert and Sadus bassist Steve Di Giorgio. This combination resulted in one of death metal's biggest game changers in 1991: *"Human"* . This record practically gave birth to one of Death Metal's first off-shoots that combined the brutality and aggression of the genre with elements found in Progressive music, Tech Death. Lyrically, this album continued the social commentaries that were found on Spiritual Healing. Two years later, Chuck again had to change the lineup, this time bringing then-former Dark Angel drummer (and drumming god) Gene Hoglan and King Diamond guitarist Andy LaRoque into the mix, with Di Giorgio still on bass. The result was 1993's *"Individual Thought Patterns"* . While retaining the prog element from Human, ITP went for a lot more twists and turns, while Human was more in-your-face. LaRoque was unable to tour due to commitments with King Diamond and was replaced with guitarist Ralph Santonlla. 1995 saw the release of *"Symbolic"* , one of death metal's most quintessential releases. With Hoglan still behind this kit, this album featured guitarist Bobby Koelble and bassist Kelly Conlon. By this time, Chuck was trying to distance himself from Death Metal, as he felt the genre had been over-saturated with bands not bringing anything new to the table and was getting annoyed by genre labeling and being restricted to that box. Also, lots of people were calling him "The Godfather of Death Metal" and he was very uncomfortable with that and tried to modestly tried to give the proper credit to bands that came before him, including Possessed. Chuck set Death aside and formed a new project named Control Denied and brought in a lineup of then unknown musicians: Shannon Hamm on guitar, Scott Clendenin (RIP 2015) on bass and Chris Williams on drums (RIP 1999), later replaced by Richard Christy (now known as the drummer on the Howard Stern radio show). However, when Chuck signed both Death and Control Denied to Nuclear Blast Records, the contract included that the group make a Death album first. The result was 1998's *"The Sound of Perseverance"* , a masterpiece album in it's own rights and would be Death's final release. With that end of the contract met, Chuck was now able to focus solely on Control Denied. Hiring vocalist Tim Aymar and bringing back Di Giorgio on bass, the band released their debut *"The Fragile Art of Existence"* in 1999. Sonically and lyrically, it continued the direction Death was going in around the time Symbolic and SOP were released, but there was no death metal to be found. Instead was a powerful Progressive/Power Metal sound with Aymar providing clean vocals. Sadly this would be the group's only release as in 1999, Chuck was diagnosed with brain cancer and went through extensive chemo-therapy and surgeries to remove it. Thankfully it was removed in 2000, but in May 2001 it returned and the operation bills had depleted his finances. Chuck's illness worsened when he contracted pneumonia and died on December 13, 2001. While Chuck was recovering, he had begun work on the second Control Denied album, which would have been titled *"When Man and Machine Collide."* He had already recorded his guitars and Christy's drum tracks, but Chuck passed before they could finish. Since his passing there were talks on trying to finish the album, but recently there is doubt that it will ever happen.
Brave girl you are!. Chilling yes but where Death stands out from others is their musicianship. Well respected Top notch stuff that influenced many. Part of the Florida Death Metal movement. Bands from the same timeline Obituary and a little later Malevolant Creation are also worth a look.
Sounds of Perseverance albumn was done when Chuck was going through brain tumor, a divorce plus music Industry was wanting him to go mainstream. Their older stuff like Scream bloody gore, leprosy was more about horror and gore then they started maturing later on. He gets really deep with his lyrics as time goes on. They become real technical and melodic on Individual thought patterns albumn, Really tasteful on Symbolic, the Sounds of Perseverance albumn well It's the greatest metal albumn of all time IMO. Oh yeah Death Human is just balls to the wall right ftom the rip. You asked about nightmarish songs maybe Pull the plug or Zombie Ritual. Like I said their older stuff was horror and gore based until they started to evolve some. Chuck Schuldner is a legend and the King of this genre.. They have an albumn spiritual healing and James Murphy plays Lead as well on Albumn. James. Murphy probably one of the top if not the best death metal lead guitarist in this genre. Another thing about Chuck is he recruited different musicians for his Albumns and they all have a different feel to them moving forward from Spiritual Healing. They are worth looking into more. You reacted to one of their more simpler songs which is still ahead of it's Time. Compare that one to let's say Mentally Blind or maybe Scavenger of Human Sorrow. You got to put into account as well he plays this stuff while singing. Many have came along and attempted but still couldnt hold a candle to Chuck. I promise you if you look into them more you will grow a great appreciation on how great of musicians they are.
Andy Chinn dude I've only heard a hand full of music by DEATH and you sir have got my attention to search for more music by them thank you for the comment you left they are fuckin kick ass r.i.p Chuck
~This is A Concise Breakdown of DEATH !! good job that man !! but then again you did keep spelling album with an 'n' . . so . . now i don't know what to think ?! . . ; ) lol
Death is from the 80's (R.I.P. Chuck Shuldiner) and was one of my favorite bands. Seen them at the Florida Theater with DRI in Orlando FL. For this, "Leprosy" album, back when bands actually toured and we went to shows EVERY weekend! It was a medium to small venue with a wall to wall to wall to stage mosh pit! Good times! I left with a broken nose and whiplash!
This is new and don't know if you visit this page anymore but Death metal is an acquired taste kind of like beer. You can be a metal head and not like it the first couple of times you listen to it but at least with this band you can somewhat understand the vocals. A lot of death metal is hard to follow but technically, guitars, bass and drums it is some of the best metal out there. Just get use to the vocals and you got it. By the way, Death, the band, is not the first death metal band but one of the godfathers of death metal and the lead singer/lead guitar player/songwriter was an incredible talent. Unfortunately he passed but their music lives forever!
The darkest Death track is also on the Leprosy album it`s called "Pull the Plug" Death are death metal, the first death metal band. They moved away from this sound to a more technical, progressive sound. Always a great band though, R.I.P Chuck.
Chuck of Death basically started the whole scene known as Death Metal..he died of a Brain tumor and he was an amazing guitarist and song writer and all around great person...the world is alittle smaller with him not in it...he just got away from years of managers and people keeping his hard earned money from him and started a new band and things started to go his way and then he went and saw a doctor because of neck pain and head aches and found out he had a Brain tumor and went through treatments and everything and basically because of money the doctors wouldn't save him and he died in his very early 30s.
Yes I agree with one of the comments below. Bolt Thrower were also one of the late 80s bands who helped pioneer and cement the Death metal music scene. They're from the UK and sing of nothing but war. Which i've always loved. Their original drummer and life-long friend Martin “Kiddie” Kearns passed away in 2015 RIP. For such heavy music it has some awesome guitar harmonies. Check out Bolt Thrower - Mercenary (also album title) But this is their most melodic album and i had a hard time suggesting a song so I went w title track. Nice tempo with great guitar work and his vocals are mostly understandable unlike many Death metal bands.
Because they were definitely having fun making this album that's why. I think he took a more serious approach afterward with Spiritual Healing and so forth. Aside from Open Casket, I feel like all the songs on this album are just fictional writings of classic metal with good lyricism, so they are just having a blast shredding out and recording.
@@DankSeouls I think this album is also pretty serious, like leprosy, pull the plug. Sure not on the level of spiritual healing but a major step up from their first album, not dissing the first one is really gritty, grotesque and i love it, if hell has a soundtrack it would be Scream bloody gore, and Hell awaits by Slayer ofc.
Yeah because their nature as musicians are to always be professional the line ups always had that going for them. But at this time it was really just 4 dudes playing their ass off because they wanted to share with everyone instead of taking the idea of the band seriously I guess, except Chuck probably.@@raczedvard
The curiosity you got right after listening to this song is exactly me. Right when I listened to their first few songs I felt I needed to know everything about the band and the singer. This was about two months ago and my fascination has only increased. Chuck is my hero.
They were a huge part of the underground death metal scene out of Florida in the 90's . Wish you checked out "Lack Of Comprehension" that track musically was on another level when they released it. Very technical. The singer has passed but left a musical legacy
The Late Chuck Schuldiner was the mastermind behind this band. He was born on Long Island, raised in Florida. the band Death was the start of the sub-genre of Death metal. Most of their songs are of this intensity, but don’t let the sound fool you, Chuck Schuldiner was one of the nicest, happiest guys in metal. If you watch interview clips of him, he’s always got a smile on his face and he loves to talk about different kinds of subjects both in and out of music. Sadly, we all lost Chuck of brain cancer in 2001. Chuck may no longer be around, but he lived on through the fans of his music.
It's a real shame chuck died, he was such a nice guy. By far the nicest guy there ever was, it's so fucking sad he is gone. The man was a Titan in metal music, death metal would not be what it is without him. Death and the bands that followed, are proper extreme metal. The shit coming out now, is complete poser wannabe emo shit. An Sweetheart I recommend you check out, Deaths Evil dead song and zombie ritual.
Chuck Shuldiner was the mastermind behind Death, an amazing guitarist and songwriter; just a mild-mannered Jewish kid from Tampa, Fl. whose parents gave him endless encouragement and room to grow as an atists and musician. He mastered guitar scales and modes and pretty much created his own brand of heavy metal, the way he heard it in his head, which became the inception of death metal. More complex song structuring, more tempo changes, amazing melodies and leads and solos deriving from "exotic" guitar scales not often used in most modern Western music. As far as his vocal style, I myself being a fan of metal for decades, am not that into that style of metal vocal delivery, but he was far and above most doing the same vocal style, (if you notice you can still actually understand [most of] his lyrics.) As far as darkest song[s] by Death, that's a tough one, as he delved deeper into internal and external moral and social issues and the human condition as his music progressed, so anything from the albums Human through to his final work, The Sound of Perseverance, are rife with blistering observations of a modern world going horribly wrong. But yes, he was actually a cool, easy going, happy-go-lucky guy, I guess those things got to him so much, he found an avenue to release that frustration and confusion, so it is theraputic and cathatrtic...as most music is, I suppose.
Charles Michael Schuldiner (May 13, 1967- December 13, 2001) American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He founded the pioneering band Death. Schuldiner is often referred to as "The Godfather of Death metal" He was one of the most significant figures in the history of metal. He was ranked No. 10 in The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists book. On his 32nd birthday, Schuldiner was diagnosed with a high grade malignant type of brain cancer that invades the brainstem. Schuldiner received chemotherapy with vincristine. Used in the treatment of cancer, the side effects were harsh and weakened him greatly. He's condition worsened as he became ill with pneumonia. Schuldiner died on December 13, 2001. R.I.P evil Chuck thank you for your legacy and your beautiful music.
The sub genre is death metal, which was named after this band, this is from the second album, and like with many early albums it is raw and unrefined, but shows an early glimpse of how great they'd become. If you want to hear more by them, I recommend either crystal mountain or the philosopher.
NecroVMX Actually, I'm pretty sure Possessed coined the term with their song "Death Metal" before Death was even a band. Though, Scream Bloody Gore is undoubtedly the first true Death metal record.
This album came out in 1988, and I purchased it while overseas in Germany. I had heard the band's earlier work, but this album was a departure for them, as they introduced more melodic structure in their songs. It got even more avant-garde garde later on in the 1990's. My favorite song on the album is the title track...leprosy. Death metal had its origins from thrash metal, first wave black metal, and hardcore punk. It started up in the mid 1980's, with bands like Celtic Frost, Slayer, and Kreator. Later came pioneers of the genre, such as Obituary and Death. Albums I would recommend: Celtic Frost- To Mega Therion Slayer - Haunting the Chapel (EP) Kreator- Pleasure to Kill Destruction - Infernal Overkill Obituary- Cause of Death
Your reaction to the BLEGH BLEGH BLEGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! was hilarious, me personally this is one of my favorite songs of off the leprosy album simply because of the BLEGH
Found Death on their third album, Spiritual Healing. Their early albums were primitive, but laid the ground work for what would become one the most most progressive death metal bands ever. I suggest some of their later work, and his last band Control Denied.
Been a fan since their album showed up in the local record store in the mid 80's. Saw Chuck 3 times. I shook his hand man! when he reached out into the crowd!
Chuck, the vocalist/guitarist was one of the first to introduce the world to these kinds of vocals, you should react to Sacred Serenity by death, gives you the feels (:
The vocalist/guitarist is Chuck Schuldiner (Shul-dee-ner) who has been in the band from the beggining to the end as there have been a lot of legendary line-up changes through each album. The first 2 albums (Scream Bloody Gore, Leprosy) were very much Thrash Influenced, later on with the album "Human" they have displayed much more technical playing, "Human" and albums like Piece of Time by Atheist or even Cynic's "Focus" have been a foundation to many Technical Death Metal bands. Even though Death is classified as Death Metal, I still think it is much more than a typical Death Metal band, they are classic within the genre of Death Metal, but also a classic within Metal. My favourite album is "Symbolic" as it is full of emotional soloing, meaningful lyricsm and melancholic atmosphere, I would suggest checking out "Without Judgment".
Chuck Schuldiner is the Vocalist AND Lead Guitarist AND Songwriter, he was a visionary and a virtuoso and his later releases are amazingly technical, progressive, beautiful compositions (Symbolic)... but anything off of Leprosy (Open Casket, Pull The Plug) or Scream Bloody Gore (Zombie Ritual, Mutilation) are subtly musically sophisticated but sound like they were scraped from the bowels of a decaying corpse. And the best part of Death as a band is you're going to find rabid fans whose favorite Death albums are all different, there is no one definitive favorite Death album!
Well said Sir, totally agree. All 7 albums are great in and of themselves and all are different from one another. You can hear a constant progression of Chucks abilities, opinions and preferences in his music.
The style of vocals featured here is often termed "Death", "Harsh". or "Grim". In most settings, a singer will use their vocal cords to sing, shout, or even scream, with an implicit tonality or key. With this sort of vocal, the singer is using the false vocal folds, much as you would when you whisper. This technique can yield several different sounds, from the low, bellowing growl, to the cutting midrange sounds you hear from Chuck S. in this track, to the piercing high shriek of a black metal vocalist. All of these harsh vocal techniques are an acquired taste, and a frequent response for a newcomer is to touch their throat and feel some discomfort. There are ways of making these sounds without any harm to the voice, and some extreme metal singers, such as Mikael Åkerfeldt from the band Opeth, jump back and forth between clean and harsh vocals in the same song. There is a whole road ahead of you, if you begin to listen to extreme metal. You may have picked a fairly challenging band to start with.
Perennial Quest, that is a longer song by Death.. And the last part of the song is very beautiful. I think the darkest song is probably Infernal Death that song is so dark, and most brutal vocals.
i love the turbid sound of album leprosy... wow.. as people say you should get in more death.. is a must know band if you want to know a bit far away of the metal today. chuck is a basic pilar in metal world.. aaaand one of my favourites songs is one from the next album (this was the first), the song is called "defensive personalities" and it's really creepy.. love it (L) hope your channel goes fine!!
My favorite album by Death. The members on leprosy other than chuck were also in a band called massacre. Same style of music as leprosy with deeper vocals. I’d love to see you react to Mortician- Red Rum 😂
I remember the first time I heard Death I was hooked on their "Scream Bloody Gore" record. But once I heard the rest of their discography... It took some time to get into. Next thing I know I'm singing a lot of the choruses and such. It takes time and a lot of listens to really appreciate the music. I now have their whole discography and plan to buy more merch!
death is arguably the greatest death metal band ever. the entire Symbolic album, the philosopher, individual thought patterns, the list goes on, but those are my personal favorites. RIP Chuck \m/
So... the drummer from this band in 93-95 was Gene Hoglan, who was also the drummer for a band with one of your favorite vocalists... Strapping Young Lad. I've been meaning to check them out more. I believe the two albums he was on were Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic, and if you react to "The Philosopher", you'll have something in common with Beavis and Butthead.
Ive been a metal fan for almost two decades, and only recently EASED into Death (which im starting to dig), so kudos for not taking the easy road. Suggestion: The philosopher and Lack of comprehension (my fav).
It pleases me to see a younger generation of metal heads learn about Death. The late great Chuck Schuldiner is the lead singer/guitarist of Death who wrote the majority of the music for the band. Their drummers are amazing too Gene Hoglan of Dark Angel and currently in Testament played drums on this album and Richard Christy from the Howard Stern show was in death for a while too. chuck passed away in 2001 at the Early age of 34 from Brain Cancer. This album got me into them when I was young and my favorite song will always be Pull The Plug
Death = original death metal band (people will argue this but it is death). From south Florida, super nice guys. Lead singer was only permanent member, died in 2001. Tragic loss. Listen to him speak on "voice of the soul"
DEATH are the godfathers of death metal. Chuck was an amazing songwriter and I love all the different eras of Death. Musically and lyrically they matured oever the years. Rest in Peace, Chuck! You were taken away from us far too soon. Can you imagine the metal world with Chuck still in it, writing like the genius that he was? Hey PinkMetalHead......you're beautiful! Love that smile! Keep smiling! \m/
Death started as a Death/Thrash band following the steps of early Sepultura and Possessed . With time , they progressed to a more Prog Thrash outfit . Check out "Individual Thought Patterns" and You´ll know what is a real Prog Thrash Metal Masterpiece .
I do have to say Chuck was the nicest guy ever. I met him I'm lincoln NE. And after they played everything from the song of perseverance he was what do you want to hear. OH shit he played 3 hrs of music from everything. And he was so nice. Miss you Bro. R.I.P. Chuck. You are missed.
To answer as many of your questions as I can recall: Who is the band's creative force? Chuck Schuldiner, the singer and primary lead guitarist (they were a two guitar band for their entire run and he played the majority of the solos despite the other guitarists still playing a fair amount as well.) Though it's debatable as to who started death metal, Death, Venom, and a very small group of other bands are all possible answers. They all surfaced around 1981-84 I believe. Chuck is the only member to appear on all seven Death albums and no other member appeared on more than two of their albums. What subgenre are they? They're death metal and transitioned into a more complex genre that they possibly created called progressive death metal. Progressive metal already existed for at least 5 or 6 years before Death incorporated death metal into it. Their album Human is where this transition started and they remained that way for the rest of their career. What is their darkest song? I honestly couldn't tell you. They're pretty evenly keeled when it comes to drama and theatrics so I've never noticed any one song that has an "Oh shit!" kind of intimidation factor. I feel like their strongest suits are Chuck's incredible ability to write compelling guitar riffs and great vocals. I'm a guitarist and bassist and have very little interest in lyrics and Chuck's lyrics are the only ones that have ever resonated enough with me to get me to sit back and pay attention. I recommend starting with Perennial Quest if you wanna see some of his finer work. It's still fairly heavy but has a truly soothing sense of encouragement and sincerity. As for general recommendations, I'd say most of their best stuff is in their final four albums. The first three are solid but the creative level just improved drastically from Human and everything after it. My five recommendations would be: 1. Flash and the Power it Holds 2. Perennial Quest 3. Trapped in a Corner 4. Without Judgment 5. Voice of the Soul (Easily their most unique song as it's a mostly acoustic instrumental that's an amazing piece of dramatic melodic writing.) Lastly, you might've noticed how much I used past tense wording describing them. Chuck Schuldiner unfortunately died of a brain stem tumor in 2001 at 34 years of age. It's truly sad that $100k in medical bills can end the life of an uninsured person who touched the lives of thousands of music fans but he's left one of the most positive legacies in all of music as you'll see less negative talk about him (even in troll-ridden youtube comment sections) than you will about virtually any other public figure ever. I hope this reply helped you out.
Death got deeper musically and lyrically as they went on. The next album, Spiritual Healing, is about social issues and is almost like thrash metal, then the albums after get really deep in subject matter and music style.
Yes! I love Death (the band, lol) but I'm more of a fan of their last four albums, which were infused with Progressive Metal rather than being pure Death Metal. I would love to see you react to Spirit Crusher, Flesh and the Power it Holds, Scavenger of Human Sorrow, Zero Tolerance, and 1000 Eyes. As for a similar band/artist, Ihsahn is another huge one in that scene. Some awesome songs from him that I recommend are Invocation, Called by the Fire, Homecoming, Scarab, Emancipation, Barren Lands, and After.
This band is one of the creators of Death metal...this is the godfather of death metal icon Chuck schuldiners band. this is there second album.Over the course of albums different members came and went...and as death metal genre grew so did DEATH and the became more progressive, more brutal and heavy and technical musical wizards by the mid-late 1990's until Chucks death in 2001
My favorite band ever ! Kinda hard to really grasp who a band is when you hear their earliest work but with Death and Chuck's writing you can feel his vision of going beyond what's expected and in their last 2 albums I think his maturity as a song writer and his guitar playing are next level. I'd put both (flesh and the power, symbolic) in my top 5 metal albums . Watch Death live at Eindhoven. We should all bow and heap praise on Chuck. Also, love your channel so much. Glad I found you. Glad I found Chuck. Holla. Ps Comment #666 😎
Another Band with crazy chilling vocals is Obituary albumn cause of death. That is their best albumn due to fact James Murphy is the Lead Guitarist on that albumn!
death has never been a band about dark music at all exept maybe for the scream bloody gore album who was more of a funny album. leprosy was the beginning of the serious stuff. if there is one guy that was a force for good it was chuck schuldiner. with the album human, they reached new heights and ushered a new era in technical death metal. chuck was not a dark person at all. the music of death from the leprosy album and forward is anything but dark and evil. if you want dark and evil, listen to deicide early albums.
i first heard Death from a guy i worked with who was a bassist, and had "pull the plug" on a compilation CD he made for work. at the time i wasn't into death metal, but had a couple Slayer albums. now i love Death more than Slayer! we all start somewhere!
Death: the band so good they named an entire genre after them - Death Metal! this music was groundbreaking in so many ways a lot of people didn't know how to take them. in my opinion one of the most underrated metal bands
And they always stayed a step ahead of everyone else in the scene
Chris Bouzigard not quite a godfathers.
Chris Bouzigard I love lack of comprehension by death
The singer is Chuck Schuldiner. He also plays rhythm and lead guitars! He's The Godfather of Death Metal.
RIP Chuck!
No he isn't
That One Metal Guy shut up
I love Death, but Chuck Schuldiner did not create nor is he the godfather of death metal.
You cannot say death metal without saying DEATH
Death's early work, Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy were more centered around, blood, gore, death, doom and gloom, typical horror movie subject material.
@@michaelolvera7490 scream bloody gore came out on 1984. And even before that - death played death metal as MANTAS.
@@michaelolvera7490 sorry your right i did mix the dates! Cheers
Ready for Pink to do a Song off sounds of Perseverance
Chuck Schuldiner, creator of a genre
Any song from death's first 4 albums is perfect to play at a church picnic or school dance.
" Flattening of Emotions" & "Lack of Comprehension" are great songs to do.
Also by Death, check out Crystal Mountain or Symbolic. You may like them better.
crystal mountain is amazing but symbolic might be easier for a new listener
First 3 death albums are heaviest.....the rest kick ass too though
Form52 all good songs, but Left to Die is still best.
Mutilation is a romantic ballad by Death. Youll love the song if you like soft and melodic music.
Death - Voice of The Soul
Yeah but this is just the best song not the scariest.
The great Chuck Schuldiner on lead and lead vocals. He sadly passed away in 2001. Death are the forefathers of Death Metal.
VERY GOOD GUY WHO LOVED LIFE.
..Nah, dude loved weed and alcohol. Though it is true he was a pretty wholesome guy.
All Death albums are a must listen
There are no Death songs like Flattening of Emotions and Lack of Comprehension
gpuppy1234 yes! Both on Human. Both would be awesome. But if you do one... Lack of Comprehension! ;)
gpuppy1234 He speaks the truth.
Couldn't said it better myself. Any track just about off of their album Human.
Brandon Hagler Lack Of Comprehension set the bar high when it came out. Especially with Sean on the drums
Evan Paluch I remember to this day when I first heard that song. I was floored
"Lack Of Comprehension" from the "Human" album is where the band really hit their stride (whole album, actually); there's an official remastered clip for that one so you can see Chuck & the guys in action. RIP Chuck!!!
Yeah for sure, its my fav for sure
💯% when that song and album came out it was like, holy sh+t! There's a whole new level to this now. "Lack Of Comprehension" and Human set the bar very high at the time for that genera
My top favorite album by them.
Love that she was chillen and everytime Chuck opened his mouth her eye grow bigger than russia😭😭
~This is A Concise Breakdown of DEATH !! good job that man !! but then again you did keep spelling album with an 'n' . . so . . now i don't know what to think ?! . . ; ) lol
David Delano-oakes no problem Chuck was a pioneer of the Metal Industry no doubt.
jedi fu lol my fucking ph Im always miss typing shit and forgetting to check it cause I turned spell check off.
Andy Chinn
~)lol no worries man thanks for the response . . .
good looking girl listens to good metal music..a dream come true
Death is from the 80's (R.I.P. Chuck Shuldiner) and was one of my favorite bands. Seen them at the Florida Theater with DRI in Orlando FL. For this, "Leprosy" album, back when bands actually toured and we went to shows EVERY weekend! It was a medium to small venue with a wall to wall to wall to stage mosh pit! Good times! I left with a broken nose and whiplash!
That old death is hard to grasp for newbies. Chuck was a musical genius, and earned his place in history !
For this being your first listen of Death and still getting into it I applaud you.
best band ever, and my favorite song of all time
The look on your face when the vocals hit was priceless! lol
Chuck also started a band called Control Denied. They released one album in 1999. It was the last album he released before he died. RIP Chuck.
These guys are the pioneers of Death Metal which in turn gave birth to genres like Grindcore and screamo.
Death - Scavenger of Human Sorrow
kreshBACON best death song ever
I really like the tone of this album it sound so different to me then other albums
The joy on your adorable face while listening to death metal comforts me in so many ways.
I love to see how you try to be open to stuff thats new and different for you and maybe not even your cup of tea.
Great done, love your videos!
They were a huge part of the underground death metal scene out of Florida in the 90's . Wish you checked out "Lack Of Comprehension" that track musically was on another level when they released it. Very technical. The singer has passed but left a musical legacy
The godfathers of death metal. Within The Mind is my favorite or Spiritual Healing
An Sweetheart I recommend you check out, Deaths Evil dead song and zombie ritual.
simon may zombie ritual great song
The style is death metal, which Death pretty much invented. This is off their second album, which was released in 1988
Chuck Shuldiner was the mastermind behind Death, an amazing guitarist and songwriter; just a mild-mannered Jewish kid from Tampa, Fl. whose parents gave him endless encouragement and room to grow as an atists and musician.
@4:13 im dead af 💀
You just introduced me to a preety good sounding band. The student has become a master. Thanks B.A.-youtiful!!!!
Since I didn't see it in the first 20 or so comments, "Flesh and the power it holds" would also be a great reaction video
Albums I would recommend:
Celtic Frost- To Mega Therion
Slayer - Haunting the Chapel (EP)
Kreator- Pleasure to Kill
Destruction - Infernal Overkill
Obituary- Cause of Death
Your reaction to the BLEGH BLEGH BLEGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! was hilarious, me personally this is one of my favorite songs of off the leprosy album simply because of the BLEGH
Found Death on their third album, Spiritual Healing. Their early albums were primitive, but laid the ground work for what would become one the most most progressive death metal bands ever. I suggest some of their later work, and his last band Control Denied.
You went old school!! Your talking 1987 I believe.
Close -1988
I knew it was something like that scream bloody gore 87? I will have to look it up.
No Worries Brother
Leprosy...1984.
Death are the pioneers of death metal. Thats why the vocals are so harsh.
Been a fan since their album showed up in the local record store in the mid 80's. Saw Chuck 3 times. I shook his hand man! when he reached out into the crowd!
The best you`ve ever heard and reacted!!! 👊 Give them hell Chuck! 🤘🤘🤘
Wow! Way to go girl listening to classics of death metal!
Chuck, the vocalist/guitarist was one of the first to introduce the world to these kinds of vocals, you should react to Sacred Serenity by death, gives you the feels (:
One of my first death metal albums that I had gotten when it first came out when I was a teen in the 80's. Thanks for bringing back memories...
death metal band from 1983-2001 the man behind the vocals was the one and only chuck schuldiner who unfortunately passed away in 2001
The vocalist/guitarist is Chuck Schuldiner (Shul-dee-ner) who has been in the band from the beggining to the end as there have been a lot of legendary line-up changes through each album.
Excellent video once again, and Rest In Peace to Chuck. Xx
R I P CHUCK.
Perennial Quest, that is a longer song by Death.. And the last part of the song is very beautiful. I think the darkest song is probably Infernal Death that song is so dark, and most brutal vocals.
i love the turbid sound of album leprosy... wow.. as people say you should get in more death.. is a must know band if you want to know a bit far away of the metal today. chuck is a basic pilar in metal world.. aaaand one of my favourites songs is one from the next album (this was the first), the song is called "defensive personalities" and it's really creepy.. love it (L) hope your channel goes fine!!
damnnn this was awesome!!!
My favorite album by Death. The members on leprosy other than chuck were also in a band called massacre. Same style of music as leprosy with deeper vocals. I’d love to see you react to Mortician- Red Rum 😂
darkest, scariest death song, that will give you nightmares? thats such an interesting request...'voice of the soul' is that song
Chuck was the Godfather of Death Metal. RIP, good Sir. (And he wanted to give you goosebumps)
One of the best masterpiece of true old school Death metal. I love this lp
Sebastiano from Italy
They have one slow song called Voice of The Soul that isn't "happy" per say but it's super beautiful.
If you don't mind the death growl, check out two of the songs off of Arch Enemy's new album The World Is Yours, and The Eagle Flies Alone.
Check out, death : scream bloody gore, best Chuck's performance ever, i suggest!
One of my favorite songs when I was growing up . Still is at 40 . Great video !
That album was released in 1989 if I'm not mistaken.
That eyebrow raise at 1:40 lol
So... the drummer from this band in 93-95 was Gene Hoglan, who was also the drummer for a band with one of your favorite vocalists...
I do have to say
Chuck was the nicest guy ever. I met him I'm lincoln NE. And after they played everything from the song of perseverance he was what do you want to hear. OH shit he played 3 hrs of music from everything. And he was so nice. Miss you Bro. R.I.P. Chuck. You are missed.
To answer as many of your questions as I can recall:
Who is the band's creative force?
My five recommendations would be:
1. Flash and the Power it Holds
2. Perennial Quest
3. Trapped in a Corner
4. Without Judgment
5. Voice of the Soul (Easily their most unique song as it's a mostly acoustic instrumental that's an amazing piece of dramatic melodic writing.)
Lastly, you might've noticed how much I used past tense wording describing them.
SBG has some good hits like zombie ritual and infernal death
This band is one of the creators of Death metal...this is the godfather of death metal icon Chuck schuldiners band. this is there second album.Over the course of albums different members came and went...and as death metal genre grew so did DEATH and the became more progressive, more brutal and heavy and technical musical wizards by the mid-late 1990's until Chucks death in 2001
The Godfather of death metal.
\m/ WHY DON'T YOU?!.. PULL THE PLUG!! \m/ #RIPCHUCK
I have a difficult time putting into words how I feel about Death. They are that amazing and important to me. RIP Chuck.
Holla.

Death rules! Your reaction video rules! I don't know about their darkest song, but "Zombie Ritual" is a classic!
This is personally one of my favorite songs of all time!
RIP Chuck - A true legend and pioneer in Death Metal
