I was at U of Iowa when Royce wrestled there and this man maintained his heartbeat over 200 bpm for 20 straight minutes. I'm not sure if anyone has even come close to equalling this? - WC
Saw a clip with Alger...he said he won his matches with his 6am runs and when he went into the gym at 10 at night to lift by himself...I believe Gable said if he had 10 Royce Algers they would never lose a match...
Trivial point but Penrith was from Windsor, NY. Windsor is farm country about 15 miles outside of the city of Binghamton. Windsor held one of the premier Christmas wrestling tournaments in NY in Penrith’s days. My HS wrestling coach, John Allen, was a Windsor grad. He coached me at Seton Catholic Central HS in Binghamton. John also wrestled for Syracuse when the had a program.

Royce "Freaking" Alger. Although I was never on his level, he was always the baddest guy on my block. Well deserved. Congratulations.

He would battle my H.S HERO DAVE LEE while in collage, "Wisconsin" FROM BELLA VISTA H.S. here in Ca.
Jeez, this guy is funny too!
