MultiVersus PS5 Review - IS IT ANY GOOD?

- MultiVersus has officially launched, graduating from last year's open beta status. While the current product is full of nostalgia and lovingly renders its characters - from Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes to Steven Universe and Adventure Time - it leaves much to be desired in other areas.
Though its story is pretty barebones, Rifts is a competent PvE mode, providing different fights (some with mutators) and mini-games. Online play is also solid, and the gameplay is easy to get into while offering new mechanics. Dig deeper, though, and you'll find some barebones content, no Ranked play or online Free-For-All, a terrible progression system and other fundamental issues.
Even the gameplay suffers from camera changes, input delay and odd character highlighting. While it's not a lost cause and worth checking out due to its free-to-play status, MultiVersus needs some serious work to stand out.
Am I the only one that prefers to pay $60 and just get everything instead of having to pay for every fighter etc? I hate the direction of gaming right now !
I'm enjoying the game currently, but I agree. I think it should not have been free and been a full priced game. I think it would have been better received this way.
I am a bit older and remember when u bought a game. You GOT a game. I have stopped playing ANY free to play game. Or even games the have micro transactions/“live service”. I know there is nothing one person can do about this. But. We are on a path for paying per hour for games. That is not something I want
Needs an offline mode for local play
It’s like I feared, the game hasn’t done enough since it was gone and they decided to go hard on the grind and microtransactions. I wish them the best of luck.
I think their biggest mistake will be switching game engines. They basically had to rebuild the game from the ground up instead of just tweaking the combat.
They should've just kept the same progression as before.
It wasn't tough to get a character and it was grind enough that it didn't feel crappy.
I think the higher ups thought the game would have a loyal fan base that it can milk
This video has so much misinformation... There's currently only 1 character that costs 6k and that's the Joker. Jason is NOT even close to being the strongest character in the game wtf. I haven't even finished the video but the hate boner for MultiVerus is crazy.
I agree with you 100%. They put a lot into this game that most seem to overlook. Not to mention it's going to continue to grow as they add in more characters, balance changes, new features, etc. I think it's quite fun considering when I came to the states I grew up on WB licenses. I love the wackiness of it and I'm glad it's not totally online battles that they did add a good bit of "offline" content :).

Jason is technically the strongest - humongous damage and killpower. Except all his buttons including jabs are like 500/-500 frames.

Such a fun game! Cant wait to see what all characters they end up adding in the future and expanding content :). Dont read the negative comments guys. If you enjoyed Smash, this is a fun game to jump into.
If there's some negative comments, I think some of them are valid. The game was gone for 1 year and still is very unpolished. We can only hope it will get better with patches but that was also our mindset during the beta in 2022 where things weren't getting much better. The game has huge potential and I think it's fun even with new speed but the devs need to get their shit together and balance all the broken characters. Even Shaggy has a 3-button loop now which deals ridiculous amount of damage without any skill involved. And I mained Shaggy in the beta where he was one of the weakest.
You literally only play against CPU bots in "PvP" modes!!! How's this shit even legal!?! Isn't false advertising?!?
And no it's not only for a couple matches!

Bots disappeared after my 4th match, so I'm guessing you didn't make it that far lol that's intentional so new players get a feel for the game before going against real people. So no it's not false advertising, you are just dumb

I havent been able to play the game at al on ps5 keeps crashing at startup they need to fix this shi

This a like a poor man's Smash. You're better off playing Smash Ultimate with that roster, items, stages, music, etc.
I can understand your point. However the main difference is this is the first game and just the beginning of its journey. While Smash Bros has gone on for years. So they've had plenty of time to experiment, add 100s of characters, features, etc. MultiVersus is a fun game if you're into WB and enjoy whacky combat. It adds a lot for players both online and offline. Not to mention the fact that it is free to play and microtransactions are merely cosmetic. I believe people just need to stop hating and just love games for gaming. Showing support is the best way to see a franchise grow instead of being a narcissistic asshat. IMHO of course:)

@adamchase9513 I've thought about it, but I think I get it and Bro Force? Mixed up 🤔. Ik it has a lot of different characters, but I wasn't sure if like each character had a special ability or if they all played the same. That's the only reason I've never played it.
@@NihonNoMajin So how it works is that there are many different weapon types but each character only has 2 along with their own unique stats. There are also stances that affect your stats for example there could be a stance that lowers defense but increases speed. You have to unlock stances for each character though. Now as to how weapons work when you get into a match there are weapon drops that will fall periodically. When you get a weapon drop you get one of the weapons your character has to on a rotation but you can throw your weapon away and get a different weapon drop(if you manage to get to it before another player that is). Lets take thor for example, he has a hammer and an orb. If i pick up a weapon drop and get hammer, when i get another drop(after throwing away my current one) ill get orb. As for special abilities it depends on the weapon you have equipped and the direction your joystick is. For example thor's neutral direction special when holding a hammer is that he cloaks himself in stormclouds then rushes forward to grapple an opponent and hit them away.

This game has lots of fun thanx to the addition of the rifts and it lets keep all the characters I unlocked in the beta version. Plus the one on one matches are pretty addictive. My mains are black Adam and Wonder Woman as I do best as the dc characters

I have played a little seems alright enough. It has potential. I would definitely like to see some stuff reworked thoug. Its free so i recomend anyone give it a shot, but mabye go in with meh expectations

I agree with pretty much everything except "Jason is the strongest." Jason is butt.
Jason is ass indeed. His kit is very fun and the 500 frames but huge damage would make more sense if his neutral special wasn't so bad or rather not even working most of the time because you can get knockbacked with NON-armor breaking moves even if you have 15 grey health.
