Getting The “best” Dog Fence Wire can spell SUCCESS in your training. A wire break almost always causes headaches on the dog owners like you. Once the wire breaks for whatever reason, you would have to go through a whole roll of inconvenience. We made a short video on Finding a break in dog fence wire
We get a lot of calls from people asking us “How do i find a break in my Dog Fence Wire?” The answer can either be a long or a short journey. Some people get lucky and find it straight away, others usually find it in the last place they look… and that’s called Murphy's Law.
1. Test the Transmitter - Find out if the system is broken or just the wire.
2. Short Loop Wire Test - Test for a break with the Dog Fence Transmitter.
3. Find the Broken Wire - Physical and Visual Test to look for the broken wire.
4. Return Short Circuit Loop - Test the Buried Wire Leading to the Fence.
5. Bypass the Buried Dog Fence Wire - Bridge the underground wire to check if its broken.

Good basic way to deduce where the break is by cutting and running fresh wire over top of it. Thanks for the video!
I've found great handbook on woodprix website. Good solutions for everyone I think
Thanks for not sharing the link.
@@leesommer5871 Awesome you like it ! 👌🤙
Ignore the part where he tries to explain the electronics theory of how these systems work. He is just plain wrong in his explanation.
Hi Walter. it probably is wrong - but it gives you a pretty good idea of what you are up against. This never was a video to explain the science of a radio dog fence - it is about basic wire break detection.
Feel free to enlighten me though - always happy to learn mate
Colin
That's the advice? If the break is underground just ignore it and run new wire? That's just stupid.
+Todd Pund I don't think it's stupid. You run a wire where the break is.
For most of us, 90+% of the system is underground so this is not practical at all
We have run new wire twice. It was easier and faster than trying to find the problem. The yellow wire that comes with PetSafe, if in the elements, rots and fails after about 2 years. We have 4+ acres contained for our 6 dogs to keep them from chasing the horses on their 6 acres. We are now upgrading to a better wire. Praying it works.
Hi Todd - this video is mainly about wire that is run above ground - we have lots of fences here so we attach the wire to the fence.
That means when there is a break it is only underground at a driveway or between the shed and the fence.
We use a good quality wire with 20yr UV rating so it does not breakdown like the thin PVC wire.
I get your point if the wire is all buried - but then this video is not about that.
Colin
P.S... you can also use the radio transmitter to find it - or do some cross sectioning
Yeah - gt good quality wire ... and try to leave it above ground. If you can't then i would run more wire too. unless you can afford one of them fangdangled radio thingys. :)
too complicated for a 2 acre area. I need a real fence
Actually.
This is by far cheaper. And more effective.
We have a lot of clients who spend money on a fence and still then need our kit. Best call us to chat.
2 Acres is easy.
