Thanks for taking the time to make this content, it explains the operation of the product infinitely better than any of the marketing literature.
Oh wow...this helped!! Hubby used a regular wire nut in a splice ...now I get why the dog is able to get out in that area. Lots of other things I see now that we need to do!!
Excellent!! lady here with a 5month old German Shepherd. Will get digging tomorrow. Thank you for being soo thorough!
How did it work on you German Shepherd? I have two that have mastered jumping the gate LOL!
Thanks for making the video. Couldn't figure out but I see that one is a surge protector and the other one is the transmitter. All the detail was very cool and helpful.
I really appreciate how in depth this was to the training
Great job! You made this job simple!
Thank you for putting your time into making this! I have been exploring getting one, but could not make sense of how we would cross the driveway, nor how we could get them in & out of the house without them crossing the line. This was great and easy to understand, and I feel 1000% confident I can do this!
Thanks. Very helpful tips!
Edger or brush cutter attachment for a gas-powered trimmer works really well to dig a small trench for the wires. Will cost about $300 to keep, or you can rent one for a day for about $100. Good video, thanks.
Good to know, thanks!
Wow I just called and I can rent one for $17/4 hrs or $20 a day I’m definitely not buying one
You can get the ryobi electric one for fairly cheap as well. I have the edger, brush cutter, tiller, and trimmer attachments for it. The tiller is questionable. I haven’t used it extensively, but it would take a long time with hard ground. Previously tilled ground, I think it would be perfect.
Thank you very much, you explained it great, we never had a dog & I plan to get one next week, so I'm trying to prepare everything so the house will be ready for our new friend. Your video helped me a lot. All the best brother
Best of luck!
Thanks this really helped me. And like you say number 5 really gets their attention
Awesome video so helpful!!
Thanks for the visuals. My husband was still trying to figure out the best way until I casted this to the TV he was watching. We're going with over the roof one. :-)
Thank you. Great video !
Great video very helpful 👌👌
Great work and thank you.
Had mine for 4 years, not any problems so far except replacing the 9 volt battery inside the collar, it took me a couple of days to dig the trench by hand because I had some tough ground, I went under my concrete walkway instead used a water hose to blow out the sand and run the wire through , one thing I have noticed when it gets cold outside my transmitter beeps sometimes but my wire is not broken can't seem to figure it out, system works good and Ranger has a path around the boundaries and know the limits before the correction shock
Thank you for the great video
That silicone stuff in that connector for the outdoor wires is petroleum jelly
Love the video thank you. My husband and I are trying to set ours up. And we made sure that there is a continuous loop, but when we move the dial on the transmitter the loop doesn’t go off an when we first plugged everything up with the surge protector the collars were responding and then the just stopped responding. I changed the batteries but it is both collars. Any thoughts on what the issue maybe. We welcome any thoughts. Thank you
Great video
So mine is plugged into the very 1st outlet from the breaker panel, which is literally about 4ft away from the breaker panel. We have not had any issues either. Just thought I'd throw that out there. However I believe the reason they tell you to not have it within 30ft of the breaker is something to due with lightning strikes.
Glad to hear it!
btw you can use an am /fm radio to find the break in the fence.
How do you do that?
@@ritaridpath4017 it has to be am/fm antenna radio the have them at target or walmart for 20-$30 tune it to the most staticky channel and then move around the perimeter of the fence and listen for the brakes in the signal or the staticIntensity it’s not an exact science but it does work and it worked for me and it makes sense why. If you search it up on UA-cam you’ll find a few good videos that have a video description of how to do it
As an electrician, I fell out my chair laughing with PetSafe suggesting tying a knot in wires to keep them together. All needs to be done is twist the wires (for 3-4 tight twist) and the wire will hold. When stripping the wire to connect with wire nut, strip enough and twist wires by hand then twist on the wire nut (never depend upon wire nut to twist wires completely). If too much copper is exposed beneath the wire nut, remove wire nut and cut twisted end off and reinstall wirenut. You can also use a yard edger to cut trench line 2"-3" deep.
Di electric grease is a benefit.
Why do you twist the cables?
Using a tool to First twist the wires together is a good idea you could use a tool to get a good grip on the wires, like a wire nut...
@Killobyte DIY your wire coming out of the SP as double strand twisted together, then @12:20 you split it up, and I assume each single strand going in a different direction. Why am I seeing double wires still when you buried it, as well as along your metal fence? Sorry for my broken English if I'm not so clear.
The double wire I used when showing how to burry it was just an extra piece I had left over. The wire along the fence is just a single wire.
Thank you for this!
The company tutorials just restated the instructions, and did not answer a single question anyone might have had. You answered so many.
Do you have snow or freezing temps where you live? If so, has that effected the system?
Thank again!
In the winter it normally gets below freezing at night and most days will warm up above freezing. We had about two weeks of snow on the ground this past winter. We've never had any issues with the system due to snow, cold, freezing, etc.
So do the wires in the end, do they I'm connect with each other
Thank you for the video! Def helped big time. When you’re talking about a 3 or 4 for the zap settings, are you talking about the box with the knob or the button on the collar itself?
On the collar. Each collar can be set to its own level.
@@Killobyte thank you!!
Thank you for this!!!! Your typed out comments made me laugh... you're relatable. 🤣
Thanks for the video! I'm about to buy one for my brother. BTW, I believe you installed the transmitter within 3' of your clothes dryer (which is a large metal object). Did this affect the system operation?
My transmitter is in the garage. There are several yard tools hanging near it and an SUV parks fairly close. No issues with those.
I’ve put my surge protector on a GFCI outlet ,which is on the side of the electrical box. But nothing happened.
The proper way to do this is, screw on your wire nut, so that the wires are now connected together. Then stuff it down into the dielectric grease (conductive grease), ok I'll one end of the wire to the left the other to the right, then close the lid (hence the left and right cut outs under the lid. Then pull your wires together in one hand and the fitting in the other, and tight a not just like you did before and now your done. The not is so that the wires can get pulled on all they want and it will never pull out of your fitting.
Yep, I think the keys are to make sure the wires are screwed together tight, down in the waterproof gel, and tied off in a manner that will keep them from getting pulled apart.
@@Killobyte I need a visual please! We are going to have at least 3 splices. Maybe I can find a video of this configuration?
I liked it because he said i need to clean 10x and just pay someone else to do it 😂
So do you twist the wires together when you don't want the signal affecting the dogs?
Correct, twist the wires where you don’t want the signal to work.
If the unit is going to be placed in a garage, it's awfully hard to avoid a GFCI outlet since that's code for that space
Agreed! Just have to check the lights on it after storms ;)
I believe if you want to do away with GFCI just replace with a single outlet.
Where can you get more tools of the wire because I need an extra one
There is a link in the description for extra wire and other items in this video.
what if you live in a camper for the summer? It has metal on the outside, that is why I bought this one because it was wired. Now I'm worried this won't work. UGH
using a sawzall to cut your trench is a lot faster and easier. Just use a coarse wood blade to cut an opening.
Can this be used on top to keep dogs from junping over fences or only for ground work fencing?
The wire can be run at any height, and with training, should keep the dogs from jumping over.
So is it ok to have the yellow wire exposed like that? How about burying it underneath rocks?
Yes you can leave it exposed, it’s just more likely to get damaged if exposed vs buried a couple inches under ground. I’d be worried that rocks might break the wire if they are stepped on.
So what's the percentage that electrical fence will stop a full-grown charging Doberman Pinscher in its tracks? Especially if the dog has a history of attacking people that are cutting their grass? So if he's outside and my neighbor goes out to cut the grass will this thing stop that dog?
Training your dog is a significant portion of it’s effectiveness. I has 125lbs Akita and never had an issue. After a while he was so respectful of the boundary we didn’t need to put the collar on.
does anybody know if you can run this along a chain link fence like in and out of the diamonds without the signal being affected?
Mine doesn't go in and out of the metal fence, just zip tied on one side of it, but it works fine.
You keep commenting on the mess, with everything from finding a good spot for the transmitter and overall designated boundary line ... I just hope that glass at the beginning of the video was filled to the brim with a White Russian. Thanx for the video.
Enough with all the ads.
What does twisting the wire meant for
Twisting the wire stops the signal so the collar won't trigger.
Wow. If that happens everytime u have a thunderstorm. U will be replacing that often.
Thanks for the share.
It only melted the surge protector once when lightning hit close to the fence. It's triggered the GFCI breaker 3 times, all during storms, so try to avoid plugging it into a GFCI circuit if you can.
@@Killobyte can you not avoid that by not having it attached to the fence? maybe along the ground
@@JeVxMoDz Agreed. I might rig something non-conductive up to hold the wire away from the metal fence.
Do you have any clue why my dog can run outside of the fence but not inside the fence. Like it's backwards
Your question has me worried I will install it incorrectly. I assume you figured it out and fixed it now. Can you tell me what the problem was?
What was the issue???
@@catlee9198 also worried! Any response
What was it? Too small of perimiter
Polarity is probably reversed. Swap the ends of the wires and test with the collar to see if it’s still beeping inside the perimeter.
Im no electritian but google says not to plug a surge protector into a surge protector, like it somehow could cancel out the whole purpose
They don't want you to overload the first surge protector. In my case, I have one device plugged into the first surge protector so it's fine.
Have you ever had any problems with those lines above ground being continuously exposed?
Other than the lightening splitting the wire attached to the metal fence, which I mention in the video, I've had no issues since.
IS your Dryer not a big metal object
Yes, but my dryer isn't near any of the wires. That is a big plastic storage cabinet by the power strip.
This is what i needed every other tutorial here fucking sucks thank you for explaining the wiring
What if you live in a trailer??
I've not tried setting one up around a trailer. Maybe someone else here has tried it? My guess is that it can be done but the non-twisted wires would need to be away from any metal which might interfere and be sure to test it.
After day 15 my dog thinks there's lightning in the flag's, I'm chasing him all over the yard😉
That's messed up, don't do that. He's associated those flags with pain. You chasing him with an object he associates with pain is going to scare him. You would run away from something you thought would cause you pain too. That's terrifying you jackass, it's not funny at all.
My dog doesn't play in traffic either.
Rent a cable layer to install the fence.
Why do you twist the cables?
Twist the wires in the areas that you don’t want the signal to enable the dog collar.
Oh also our garage is all metal and our house has metal siding with vinyl over it
Thanks for the info!
rows...ROLLS? lol
Holy stahl bud this video could have been 6 minutes long
