  • We ordered a Kolsol Underground Wire Locator on amazon to find a break in Amy’s underground electric dog fence. We are happy to say it worked well and were able to find the break and fix it for very little money!

Thank you so much, this was very helpful. I prayed the entire time looking today. Didn’t find the break, but found this video. Still an answer to prayer🙌🏻. Thanks again

This a good video. The device worked for me to find a break in an Invisible Fence wire. One suggestion I would have for someone using this device is practice on a wire that you can see to learn how this device reacts. I laid out a 25' long extension cord in a straight line, NOT PLUGGED IN. I hooked the red alligator clip to one of the prongs at the end of the cord. I connected the black clip to a grounded stake as shown in this video. I practiced swinging the receiver over the cord to hear how it reacts and also how the signal stops when you go past the unconnected end of the cord. The experience helped when I went to find the real break in the yard. Remember the extension cord is NOT PLUGGED IN. I was able to get a signal 500' from where i connected the device, after that it was too faint to hear even with the head phones.

I teach automotive in a college course. I was looking for a simple video to show students how to use a circuit finder. I went on all the expert UA-cam videos and NONE of them explained how and why the simple red and black leads on the transmitter are used. Until I seen this video. Now my students can really see the application in using both red and black leads on the transmitter are used. And ALL my students liked the video because it was helping dogs in their environment. Good job on showing the use of the red and black transmitter leads and how and why they are used.
I just wish the experts could be more directly simple and complete in the use of this tool.

More time could have been spent on finding the break in this video. I have purchased this and having a hard time finding my hidden fence break. Frugal did okay, but Kolsol should produce their own how to video!!!

Thanks for this video. I used the Kolsol F02 Pro Locator. Very easy to use and it worked great. I have AWG 12 fence wire which is mostly about 2 inches deep. My fence surrounds 4 acres and is about 2,500' long. I found my break about 700' from where I connected the Locator and ground stake (screwdriver). An Armadillo had dug a hole and chewed through the wire in a jungle area. The Locator didn't work as well in areas where the wire was buried deeper. It still worked but the tone wasn't as loud or exact. Very happy with this tool. Worth every penny. We had spent hours hacking thru the woods and jungle looking for this break. With the Locator, I found it in about 20 minutes.

I have about 2300ft of wire. If the sound gets very faint at the deep end of my property, does it mean I have a break? Or do I need to find complete dead silence / static to start digging? Can't find my break...

As a side note you can also use this tool to approximate the depth. Once you find the exact location with the probe directly above and on the ground, angle the probe at 45 degrees and move perpendicularly away, with the probe pointing towards the target, when you hear the null the depth will be equal to the distance between the two points.

Nice! Plenty of reviews of the tool, but first one I see that says how to actually use it (I lost the manual right after receiving it :-) ).

I bought this and tried it with high hopes. It only worked for a short range, maybe 20-30 yards before the signal got to weak to be useful.

Great info, Thank You. What size wire did you locate and How deep was your wire? Im wondering the maximun deepth this tool will detect.
Im trenching over 2000 ft of mix, pvc, conduit, water lines, sewer lines, and im thinking the cheapest way to future proof locating my lines in yhe future would be trenching copper wire wich i have a lot of free cat 5. And this tool.
    Thanks again

Thank you for posting this. I am still a little confused. You said IF I heard right) that the tone STOPS when you are right over the wire? The users manual is worthless and there seems to be so much conflicting information.
Did you ever make a video of doing the test at the box (Unplugged)?

Kudos to you. You did it yourself. You shot your video in landscape! 👍 The wire going under the gravel is a rough environment for a wire. Did you sleeve it with a plastic pipe to protect it?

As someone who has experience locating underground cable faults, yes, this is the way to find a break.

Mine didn't come with those nice directions 😒 Found my wire no problem! But can't figure out how to find break. Everyone's videos are different on this device. I found the same, once it goes silent you are within 6 inches of the wire. BUT I can't figure out the "broken" tone 😢

If there is a break in the fence, will you hear anything from that point on past the break? I am going crazy trying to find this break and i have a new puppy that is inquisitive about the road. Please help!

    Thumbs down on this demo!
You said when you are right-over the wire break you hear nothing.
    I still hear it!
You said when you are over the top of the wire break it does not make a sound!
    I still hear it!
