I bought a variagated monstera and whilst It's lovely, I feel like the cost/benefit ratio isn't good when you factor in the anxiety to keep an expensive plant alive 😂
I just bought a Thai con because it's been so expensive in aus. Used to be $200 I got mine for $75. It's BEAUTIFUL I'm a little happy to hear they are slow growing because my house is a little small haha.
I’ve had my Thai Con is just over 3 years old,and it grows like crazy in Adelaide, had it indoors then it got to big now it’s outdoors under a pergola in very bright light.
The Thai Constellation was at the top of my wishlist ever since I first saw it. Two months ago I finally got one. It is just a baby, but it was only $40. It has given me two beautiful new leaves. And since I love it as it is and don't need it to grow quickly, it is 100% worth the hype to me.
I got my Thai Constellation in August 2023. It now has 5 beautiful fully fenestrated leaves, also the petioles are quite short. Never had any juvenile leaves! It is growing in pon and is attached to a long support pole. It pushes out a new leaf every 2-3 months, even in the winter! I read somewhere that you need to attach Monsteras to a support pole (doesn’t have to be a moss pole) to encourge leaf growth.
I am happy I paid more money for a mature Thai constellation. It is a slow grower that rarely wants water. Which is great, because it is my lowest maintenance plant. Tons of cream variegation and happy as a clam.
Thank you so much for your honesty! I am recovering from surgery & you absolutely slayed me with the wrinkly thirsty/counting the boobs bit 🤣 omg I NEED IT!!! And I needed the laughs as well. Thank you 🙏🍄 Cheers love!!!
I absolutely love my Thai Constellation! I have two…one is large, the other is smaller. Absolutely worth the hype. My Albo, although I love it I think that one is a slow grower for me and slightly hyped. I got my Albo before I got my Thai, I gave my daughter a top cut.
Based on how long the spacing is between the leaves, your constellation Mosntera might need some brighter light! My monstera delicosa is doing a similar thing because I moved it away from its happy window.
I was so frustrated with my Melanochrysum that I left it for dead… but it didn’t die! So, I chopped off the annoying bits and am giving it a second chance. Let’s see how it goes. 😂
I didn’t fall for the Pink Princess hype, but last Fall I found one at Walmart on a cart of dying plants that were going to be thrown away. They sold it to me for $1. I washed the roots and repotted- had 2 good leaves and a few tattered ones. It has put out 2 new leaves for me, but not much pink at all. It’s in a West facing window. Thriving but just not exciting. But for one dollar, it has been a fun rehabilitation project.
I bought a Pink Princess about 2 years ago, tiny plant with 3 small leaves. I got pink variegation quite fast (including one full pink leaf and one with a half completely pink), I attached it to a moss poll and the leaves instantly doubled in size, I still get pink spots and stripes on every leaf that comes out. And I’m wondering if it’s not been communicating with my Birkin which lives right next to it, because I got leaves with massive pink stripes on the Birkin :) It’s not the most thriving and fullest plant in my collection, not the fastest grower, but I would say that for me, the Pink Princess has been worth the hype!
I was gifted a pink princess and I would have given it away had it not been from a dear friend. My other regret plants are the white wizard, white princess and Stella calathea. I gave them all to friends and will never buy again. My Thai con grows like a weed, and has tons of variegation- so it’s been very enjoyable. However, if it didn’t have as much variegation, I’d probably not be as happy with it either.
I totally agree with ALL the plants you showed except for the Thai as mine is beautifully constellated ( is that even a word?). I think mine has good genes and it's growing fairly slowly. Regret getting a pink princess and have never bought the others you've mentioned and NEVER will! Thanks for sharing 🥰
I'm a newb. I got a $15 Pink Princess 2 weeks ago, it's not mature, but it grew 2 ned leaves under my grow light. Afraid to get a thai con, because of it's size and knowing it will need more light than my regular Monstera Deliciousa which takes up so much space already. It's easy to feel compelled by social media, but we all have different conditions.
My hype plant I purchased is Thai Con seedling December 2024. I’m space limited and I have my favorite plants. 👍🏾Video. June in The Junegle, USA. 🪴Happy Planting🌿
I got my Thai constellation as a rooted top cutting - it was beyond well rooted (in a ~17cm pot, completely full of roots) and basically a normal plant in moss- and it had 3 ~30cm leaves for 40€. It's growing at a medium speed for me and is doing significantly better since I transferred it to Pon (I was quite rough with it as well - took a toothbrush to the roots to clean - to get the moss off the roots and it wasn't fazed at all). Then it got thrips, just like my normal monstera (which died due to thrips and winter lighting conditions) and it wasn't really bothered by them or my soapy water treatment. This plant is tough and not too expensive here in Germany, absolutely love it. I have a baby esqueletto as well and it's doing ok, slow growing but overall fine. It's in Pon and in a south facing window. I also have a mystery monstera - potentially an esqueletto - I'm not 100% sure because the leaves were all a bit crinkly before but the newest leaf is nice and smooth (which threw me off, because it came with crinkly leaves and produced crinkly leaves and now it's smooth. I thought it was just how it grows, but apparently not). And it's doing even better in the same conditions.
Hi Emma, such a great subject to highlight. I do agree that PP is a Pink Nightmare, for me. Chop, chop, chop and more chop, still no pink. I gave up and gave the chops to my coworker!!
The pink princess died in record time for me. I received it as a gift, a small 3 inch plant, and it was such a troublemaker I was actually happy when it died.
I had the same thing with Pink Princess, I bought in baby size hoping to watch her grow. Over six months it put out three tiny, deformed leaves, wouldn't root at all, I gave it so many chances it eventually ended up on the compost heap. The boobie cactus is lovely instead!
Same for me with White Princess & Melano. I still struggle and I am putting all my hope in my Splendid which is not seizing up but growing steadily even in winter. I cannot kill my Melano, I am giving it another try in summer and then it will be rehomed 😅
I've been influenced to buy a few. The main one was the Phil Pink Princess. When I was able to get a decent sized one for $32, I decided to take the leap. Hated it. It grew really wonky and the leaves were constantly getting stuck. I gave it to someone who was excited about it. I was over it. I also bought a few syngoniums even though I am not really in to syngoniums. They got spindly looking, so now I only have my Milk Confetti left. Another three that I bought, but am really happy with are hoyas: Mathilde, Heuschkeliana Variegata, and Meredithii. Love them.
I have the same problem with my PPP leaves getting stuck as well! I thought it was just me. I’ve tried misting the stuck leaf, wrapping a warm paper towel around it, and being consistent with watering, but they still get stuck and always look slightly misshapen.
@@Julia-lg2on I had the same issue with Phil Silver Sword and one of the syngoniums that I got rid of. Sometimes I could get them unstuck without damaging the leaves, but often I didn't. It was frustrating and another reason that none of them are in my collection now.
Sweet. I agree with almost all of yours. Almost. Not the Esqueleto. And I do have a love-hate relationship with Dubia. One of my way overhyped ones is Alocasia in general. They’re cool if you want a hands-on plant. But ugh. Such high maintenance plants in the conditions I can offer them.
lol I chopped up my pink princess months ago to propagate because it was driving me nuts. Now it’s doing amazing and I have like 5 total 😂 still haven’t potted them yet though. But it’s one of my least favs for sure😅
6:26 my Thais are in Leca. Due to dealing with rot. My albos are in Leca too. I definitely love them because well I love var. Monstera, but mine are more variegated. ❤
It is nice to hear your opinion on these plants! 🪴 I still love the Pink Princess… A few years ago I bought a big (expensive) plant with the variegation that I wanted, it has been chopped and propped every year and then I keep the most variegated propagation and give the rest away. It works fine for me that way. I can imagine having a mostly “green” one can be disappointing (and they can be a bit finicky). If I want a plant for a specific trait, like variegation or large leaves (on a plant that grows slowly or is difficult to size up), I buy it big and with the traits that I want… even if it is more expensive, it will avoid the disappointment (unless the plant like dies) If I want a plant for the journey and it doesn’t matter what variegation it has or what size the leaves are…. I get a babyplant or a cutting 😊
I got my Pink Princess as a gift from my husband in early 22. It seemed very expensive at $75. I still have it, but am thinking of chopping it. I grew it up a moss pole; chopped it once and combined the 2 parts. It does have nice pink varigation, but I am unable to get it to look even close to bushy. The leaves have sized up, but not significantly; and they still get stuck and are deformed to often. Not a pretty plant. I did notice that the photos of them are often taken from the top looking down which makes the plant look thicker. Also have a mylanocrysum that I haven't given up on, but I should. It is on a pole, still small, but the leaves are now able to unfurl. I also have a ty that I am happy with. It has doubled in size and so far has been easy. I might say that the albo has proven not so much. Got root rot, and may have to chop it up, which I am resisting. The leaves are wilting, but don't want to chop it. It is in a terrarium until I get up the nerve, I guess. The most expensive plant I have purchased. If it goes south, I will never get another, and be satisfied with my ty. I want to get a blue oil fern. I can get one local, but they are $70, and no, not for a slow grower like that.
I wonder if the Thai is slow growing because it was “man made”? I love mine and I am okay with it growing slower I don’t want all my plants getting to big I’ll run out of room! 😂 I have a pink princess she’s pretty and I am with you “it’s not worth the hype”. I cut her down and to make her bushy instead. I just sent up that video if you want to see what I did with it. Think it’s cool. My Thai, Syngonium Albo, Black Velvet, White Knight are very thirsty. I water them every 3 days? Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
I agree with everything except the esqueleto, but that’s because my experience has been the complete opposite of yours. I got mine a year ago as a 3 leaf cutting and it’s one of my best and easiest plants. For the most part I am still new to houseplants and I have no idea what I’m doing 😅
Pink and black is my absolute fave color combo but something in me does not want any plants with pink at all not even pink outside in my garden areas. Even with all the hype I've never wanted a pink princess 😏
I agree on the Melanochrysum...I could never make it happy. I tried multiple plants, too, and all died. I want to have a beautiful big one. Maybe you have to get a mature specimen for it to flourish?
I mentioned that early on in the video, I'm currently in the process of sulfur treating all of my collection which leaves the ugly white water spots on the leaves
I hate that the PPP was what got me into plants because they suck! (Well the ones that I have) but I'm also grateful because they got me into plants ✨️🥹✨️ I LOVE my Melanochrysum but I've also had it for about a month so I'll see how it goes/grows. But I love it so much. I never bought into the hype of the Thai constellations but I'd also probably get one when they're even cheaper
@goodgrowing yeah, I think instagram really got me obsessed with the PPP but they start off looking alright with the amount of pink that they've come with, only for the variegation to decrease and the leaves to turn out a muddy brown colour... they also ends up looking really leggy. I think maybe if I spent more or went to someone that was known for producing beautifully variegated PPP's I'd try get another. But other than that, all the love and time I've spent on them, they don't give me that 💓✨️ that I need. Really enjoying dark green velvet leaf babies! Also also, I'm not sure if you have one but if you get your hands on an Alocasia Azlanii, could you please upload a care video! I have a little one that I want to give it the best life!
I watched the PPP care video earlier, and the whole time I was like "yeaaaaah, riiiiiight..." This video kind of confirms the care video is not very good.
Do you have fans blowing in an around your plants, an im thinking using chuncky potting mix for plants is an issue cauing pest issues. I don 't use chunky mix with bark, have over 100 plants an maybe 3 times only had 1 at a time have a pest issue.. 30 years growing....😊
Hi Emma from Belgium l agréé 💯 % with the pink princesse hate it and for the Thai Constellation, l really don't see all the fuss. l would love to have an monstera xxl the leafs are to die for❤❤❤❤
I can’t mine to unfurl a nice looking leaf at all - it’s a tricky b*tch, sticking in the cataphyll, snapping its own leaves off. I’m nearly ready to give up on mine!
PPP… definitely overrated. My first little one I got a year ago has been sitting in water without roots, but not dying 🤷♀️ found a medium sized one for $14 and it’s doing ok, not doing much. How is sullhur treatments any better than insecticidal soap? The Thai constellation? I dont think is worth the hype. Got one anyway, a little/medium guy for 60$ here in Canada, but I’m not expecting it to grow quickly and am watchful of root rot. I’m still drooling over and wanting the fern leaf and boobie cactus. 🌵 Me too, watering moss poles only, forgetting to empty the cache pot … sigh
from my collection: Monstera TC marble - worth it Anthurium queen - worth it Anthurium luxurians - worth it for sure Melanocrysum - worth it Boobie cactus - not worth it Monstera dubia - not worth it, El Salvador is sooo much better and it looks more beautiful when mature and grows much faster Philo. Glorious - not worth it, Majestic looks better when they mature Monstera esqueleto - not worth it, they look good when young, but when they mature, they look like normal green mature epipremnum Philo. Birkin - the most overrated plant, not worth it at all, it looks ugly and grows ugly.
It could be because it's not getting enough light along with root rot, hence also the slow growth. When not getting enough light it grows slow and any new leaves that do form will tend to have less variegation.

Why not just get orchids? There's a ton of them with gorgeous foliage and also "surprise surprise" blooms and fragrance. No shade to any of you guys who buy these scam plants, but it's so wild to me anyone would spend hundreds on basic, overvalued plants that don't even produce blooms.
The only advice I have for the Monstera Esqueleto (if you haven't gotten rid of it yet) is to def increase the light. I grew mine from a node that had a decent root system and for the longest time it did absolutely nothing just swelling of the node(this plant is sooo F-ING slow) After months and months it grew too small juvenile and mildly fenestrated leaves just like in the video and as I was about to give up she threw a nicely fenestrated leaf double in size and has been only increasing ever since. Now it still has a long way to go but it's absolutely gorgeous. So I'd suggest don't give up, they are so rewarding when they grow properly just up a light and keep it consistent+good feed (they also don't like too much light at all)
I bought a variagated monstera and whilst It's lovely, I feel like the cost/benefit ratio isn't good when you factor in the anxiety to keep an expensive plant alive 😂

I'd also love to have a big beautiful one... but I can't justify the price tag of a mature one
Neither can I >.< lol
Thai are totally worth it. Get another one and give it a go 😊
yeah maybe I need to 🤔
Just bought a PPP in a 4 inch pot for $10 a couple days ago. We'll see how it goes 🤞🏿
My Thai is going good but I have not unlocked the pink princess secret, it's tiny and barely growing
I think for PPP it's a beautiful plant in theory, but really dependent on the conditions you can give it and the genetics of the particular plant.
yeah I think genetics play a huge factor and it's quite difficult to know in advance of buying one whether they'll be good or not
My Thai,is very hungry,growing slow,but huge leaves,from NZ
hmmm maybe I need to fertilise more 🤔 thanks for the tip
Is it just the lighting or does everything have white dots and water spots? am i missing something?
I mentioned that early on in the video, I'm currently in the process of sulfur treating all of my collection which leaves the ugly white water spots on the leaves
I hate that the PPP was what got me into plants because they suck! (Well the ones that I have) but I'm also grateful because they got me into plants ✨️🥹✨️
I LOVE my Melanochrysum but I've also had it for about a month so I'll see how it goes/grows. But I love it so much.
I never bought into the hype of the Thai constellations but I'd also probably get one when they're even cheaper
yeah I don't get the PPP, most people I speak to struggle with them so much, but on IG they look amazing!
I think it depends on luck and the mother plant? Idk I have a PPP because I got it cheap and it's doing very well and I am not a good plant person.
So glad o watched this lol the last one was on my list
Love your t shirt!
Great content, gorgeous nails!
thank you 🥰
That Queen Anthurium looks like it has been in a warzone or something :D Also I had the same issue with Dubia, it just wouldn't propagate for me 😕
just a pest treatment really
Ive been looking at getting a pink verigated black alocasia!
I mean I would defo get one of those if I found one for a good price! No idea if they're worth the hype tho 👀
@@GoodGrowing that's trueeeee haha I'm definitely gonna get a fried egg first though I can't come to spending a few hundred on a plant yet😂
I watched the PPP care video earlier, and the whole time I was like "yeaaaaah, riiiiiight..." This video kind of confirms the care video is not very good.
Plantsbymelissa has some gorgeous Thai Constalations. She sells plants online too.🌵🌼🌿👌
Omg yeah hers are GORG!! Shame she’s in the states tho
My Thai is sooooo slowwww toooo
My finger anthurium bloomed
Do you have fans blowing in an around your plants, an im thinking using chuncky potting mix for plants is an issue cauing pest issues. I don 't use chunky mix with bark, have over 100 plants an maybe 3 times only had 1 at a time have a pest issue.. 30 years growing....😊
I have fans in the cabinets, but not elsewhere in my home
Hi Emma from Belgium l agréé 💯 % with the pink princesse hate it and for the Thai Constellation, l really don't see all the fuss. l would love to have an monstera xxl the leafs are to die for❤❤❤❤
omg an XXL monstera is my DREAM!
I never wanted a pink princess, i kinda hate pink plants in general 😅
honestly, same
My thai grows faster than my albo. They both are under the same grow lights
tried 3 times with my melano and i ended up throwing it away lol
I’ve always wanted a fern leaf cactus. Now I want one even more! Love this video !
You have a poorly variegated one. They don't lose variation as do the Albos but a better color splash may let you feel better.
I don't mind the intensity of the variegation on my plant, more just the slow growth
Sheffield made plants calls it melanocrisis!
I can’t mine to unfurl a nice looking leaf at all - it’s a tricky b*tch, sticking in the cataphyll, snapping its own leaves off. I’m nearly ready to give up on mine!
haha I love that!
Boobie cactus is definitely a wishlist plant!
Is the booby cactus spiky? They remind me of Euphorbia somewhat. I’ve seen them before and so far it hasn’t hooked me. You crack me up 8 boobs LOL! 😆!
yeah they have tiny little spikes in the nipple area 😂
@@GoodGrowing LOL! 😆
I got a boobie cactus, and crocheted it a bikini to wear. Then it got scale and i had to remove the bikini to easily treat it.
Me too, watering moss poles only, forgetting to empty the cache pot … sigh
defo recommend the fern leaf & boobie cactus!! 1000%
Agree😂
from my collection:
Monstera TC marble - worth it
Anthurium queen - worth it
Anthurium luxurians - worth it for sure
Melanocrysum - worth it
Boobie cactus - not worth it
Monstera dubia - not worth it, El Salvador is sooo much better and it looks more beautiful when mature and grows much faster
Philo. Glorious - not worth it, Majestic looks better when they mature
Monstera esqueleto - not worth it, they look good when young, but when they mature, they look like normal green mature epipremnum
Philo. Birkin - the most overrated plant, not worth it at all, it looks ugly and grows ugly.
haha I agree with the birkin
Definitely been looking in town for the boobie cactus lol no luck yet. But I did win a Thai constellation and eeeeeee it’s gorgeous ♥️
omg what a score! congrats!
I want a Boobie cactus sooo bad!!! One of my top wish list plants now!!!
defo recommend!!
The billie was prob my least favorite plant other than the ppp lol
yeah I don't understand the billie hype either... I've not had one though so can't really comment
Truly I believe none of the plants are worth the hype. I am so in love with plants but I’m not going to bust my head paying for it.
some on this list aren't expensive anymore 🤷♀️
My monstera albo grew much better than the Thai constellation…
oh yeah they defo do!
Booby is on my wishlist too!😊
get one!!
🫶
I got influenced by you to get a boobie cactus :3
hehe sorry not sorry!
Ive been wanting one for about 4 years now and I finally found some places that have it but I'm so unsure about cacti 😅
Is it just me or her thai doesn't have enough varegation?
It could be because it's not getting enough light along with root rot, hence also the slow growth. When not getting enough light it grows slow and any new leaves that do form will tend to have less variegation.
idc if my thai has loads of variegation or not, it's still pretty

Another YT guy calls the philo molanocrysom a "molanocrysis" lol.
I agree with that sentiment 😂
Melanochrisis
