    Great video Paul. I used to repair salvage cars a while back. However one thing I do remember is that a lot of the major insurance companies would not insure cars that had been subject to a previous total loss. They would ask the question on the proposal form. In addition prior to this I had a van which I had repaired and it was fine and I used it for a couple of years in my business. Now the insurers had not asked about the status of the van and it was insured fully comp. Unfortunately it was stolen and never recovered. The insurance company refused to pay out as it had been subject to a total loss claim some years before. I did eventually get paid out after appealing to the Ombudsman but it is something you should be aware of. In life there is no free lunch !

    Definitely all about picking the right car, first one I purchased was a Peugeot 207 CC (cat n) at the time I thought it was a steal but after being on the market for 6 weeks I realised that because it was a convertible and a higher tax band the people I thought it would sell too (younger generation) couldn't afford to insure/run it and the older generation that could afford to were put off by the cat n and would spend a little more to get one hpi clear. It did go eventually and I made a tidy profit but it's definitely made me think more about those things for future purchases.

    Quick question mate is it worth buying 2 to make 1 good one? im looking at a cat N 108 allure, front end damage and a cat b 108 allure with a crumpled rear end, i was thinking of using the front end off the cat b on the cat n, dropping the engine out of the cat b and stripping anything of value as spares for the cat N, is it worth it or am i best off buying replacement parts what are damaged on the cat n?

    I got sold a cat s car for a non cat s price, and because I was a first time car buyer, I didn't knew what cat s was. Now 6 moths later I have to sell it at major loss. I paid for vouxhall corsa 2011 £2350 and now I would be lucky to get £1800 for it. Plus I have no documents to show what was exactly fixed as the guy buys and fixes up cars in his back yard. Well this was a life lesson.

      Can I ask why you paid so much for it when the market value of it is 3200? I never go by the estimated retail price from copart as they're more often than not massively inflated, research beforehand (ebay sold listings/auto trader prices)

  • @Alexander_l322

    Right of the bat it's hard because people are told not to buy cat anything! You can see why when alot of them are still bent and gaps dont line up, just looking at pictures shows where it was hit because alot of people just dont do the work properly and so anyone who thinks 'you know what I'll try a cat s because I can save a bit and get a better spec' only to go look at one that's been welded up by 'Jimmy' and it puts them off for life. Also they lie and say it was a light knock in the back end when infact it took a head on whack and bent the legs.

      you have to rely on the seller, I would ask for photos of the damage , everyone takes them

  • @GG-im1cb
    @GG-im1cb 4 роки тому +6

    I used to repair recorded damage repairables professionally and the rule of thumb was that even when repaired they were worth about a third less than a straight one, so you had to be buying them cheap to make them worth while doing. The rise of the diy repairer paying over the odds has made them less profitable, and the quality of some (but not all) of the diy repairs is quite frankly shocking, especially when it relates to structural or chassis damage. IMO non registered motor trade professionals should not be allowed to buy and repair cat S vehicles.

      Zephaniah Blair Nahh you’ll be good the insurance companies aren’t bothered. Only thing with a cat D is you need to find out what previous damages happened, as long as it’s not any water/mechanical damage it’s a green light.
