I enjoy the information. Doesn't matter the length of the videos or your opinion , mine may be and often is different. What matters and what I enjoy is your presentation of the products/technology, and that the topic is covered enough for me to decide to investigate further in my personal audio journey. Even when I am not particularly interested in altering my audio behavior with topics discussed I nevertheless enjoy them.... never miss a video

I recently added a sub to my front room system and it seemed to make the bookshelf speakers sound clearer, irrespective of the added bass? (Bluesound power node, Wharfedale 9.1s and SW150 sub) - I really think there is "something" in the low pass/high pass arrangements you talk about.

I really like these videos, Q&A sessions are important in my opinion. These types of speakers are of interest to me in my TV room, but I don't have the space for speaker stands, really I need a soundbar. I'm looking at the Bluesound Pulse Soundbar+ in comparison since it's tidy and compact, but I don't love the soundbar aspect. I find it tough to decide on a purchase as there is always something else to consider, and your channel (in the best way possible, only good things) helps drive my analysis paralysis.

Just go to the store and try it out. And if it works for your room acoustics. Then you will be happy! if not go to the store for someting else. But you (Darko) help sift trough a lot. Keep up the good work! And if the person think the video is too long. You can always crank up the speed with the option of your UA-cam page! Ore you can manually skip! Info is the key for understanding a product!

I love all the vids no matter the length. Props to you and Olaf for always coming through with a quality production.
I would be very interested in a comparison in between a streaming active system and a more “traditional” system that consists of separate components but come in at the same price with the same basic features. For instance, many of the larger hifi companies offer stereo receivers with hdmi earc and limited streaming capabilities(Marantz NR1200 or Onkyo TX-8270 for example). Even a Bluesound Power Node and some passive speakers would make a minimal footprint complete streaming solution. What I’m interested in is can better flexibility, sound, looks, and or convenience be had from either a full streaming active loudspeaker system or from one cobbled together from separate components. I think it would make for an interesting topic.

Hi John. I like that you do: carry on!
I have a separates system comprising streaming DAC/pre-amp, analogue crossover, sub, analogue power amp and speakers. I also have a Sonos system for casual listening around the house with eight zones including one zone in the main listening room that feeds into the DAC/pre for casual listening. Sonos is very important to me for multi-room, and for integration with BBC Sounds, a podcast service (Pocketcast), and Tidal. The streaming loudspeakers that you’ve been reviewing are interesting products and some appear to deliver very good sound, but you rarely have anything to say about integration with a multi-room system. Multi-room music or speech is such a huge benefit of modern audio systems that I wish you would say something about it when you review ‘future-fi’, ‘wireless’ speakers.

  • @o0divinity0o

Regarding the cable vomit that usually follows wireless speakers. I think the most future-fi solution is having a box with all the connections that communicates with the speakers wirelessly. Like the Dali sound hub, Dynaudio Xeo link and so on.

Great follow up review. I must contradict you in one area. I use a Linn Selekt DSM all in one streamer/ amp feeding two internal stereo amplifier modules, each with their own Katalyst DAC . The Selekt uses Linn's Active Exakt technology to split the crossover frequencies in DSP and thus feed a "passive" unpowered speaker, actively (although one has to bypass the speaker's passive crossover). My speakers of choice is the Kudos Titan 505, which simplifies this, by incorporating external crossover jumpers on the rear.

Hi John, keep the thorough reviews coming. As a person with ADHD attention span is an issue. However, I find that with people like yourself who bring the content in a way that is easy to digest, a bit tongue in cheek (read: not taking it too seriously) I can easily watch the whole video in one go. Remember folks there is a pauze button. Pauze have a brew and come back and resume playback. As for the wire issue, I run a pair of Adam Audio A7X attached to a SPL Director MK2. Having the cables all attached to a single device does make it slightly easier to hide the cables, as the separates can be put into a cabinet/closet/hifi-rack, which with speakers is going to be slightly more difficult. Keep up the good work!

To me (newbie), the value of these products are pretty much amp/speaker synergy to people who are mainly digital/streaming and/or would end up using them for secondary listening rooms and/or, finally, for those entering the rabbit hole of hi-fi. Other than that, adding sources etc would only change where these sources are connected. Cables, by definition would be the same, unless ou area also going "fully not integrated" and therefore having to factor in interconnects etc.
    Great approach addressing the comments.

Great follow up video, John. I wish more reviewer did this.
For me having multiple wires hanging behind a speaker kind of defeats the purpose of these speakers that are meant to be lifestyle friendly. One speaker that I have been interested in that is close to what I believe wireless speakers ought to be are the B&W Formation Duo. They offer true Wi-Fi with just the power cables running behind them with an external box to handle any analog connections that streams wirelessly to the speakers. One thing I wish they add would an HDMI arc input to the external box that will make this an ideal product.
Do you have any thought on this and if you plan on reviewing these speaker? I have heard them in-person and was left impressed. Few reviews that are out there, have raved about their sonic performance.

Thank you for explaining, that it is the price that determines, whether cables go into one or both wireless speakers. I've heard the Buchardt A500, A500 Signature Edition and A700, all of which have a small box, that sends the sound wirelessly to the speakers, via wisa. I think it is the same with the new Dynaudio Focus series. That is more like actual wireless to me. Only the power cord is plugged in.

I enjoyed this video very much because you took several approaches from our comments and compared them to using/setting up the SVS Prime Wireless Pro. I understand the reasons you gave for the cable spaghetti coming out of the SVS wireless but still think it's a bit silly for any company to label that solution "Wireless". It is what it is, love your videos and perhaps some day there will be a totally wireless option for all of us to debate.

John, I agree that the SVS and Sonos is a reasonable comparison. I want to point something out. I have TVs in three different rooms in my house. I have chosen to put my money into a high end 2.2 channel hifi system in my listening room. But I have put Sonos gear in two of the other rooms with TVs because it was a quick and easy to setup solution for HT without breaking the bank, relatively speaking. Additionally, Sonos gear is also designed with decor in mind so that is a plus. The SVS and other higher end audio gear, generally is not. But that is in the eye of the beholder. The other tv room has a Naim UnitiStar, a pair of Zu Omen Dirty Weekend speakers and an Emotiva subwoofer. Making the above setups this way, I have prioritized my listening room gear for the greatest expenditures, because to me, per my priorities, HT doesn’t require this type of money, because to me, HT is not critical listening. So Sonos has value, in that it is decor friendly, sounds good, is easy to setup, makes for acceptable HT setups and allows for serious expenditures elsewhere for no unreasonable sacrifices. Others may disagree with these thoughts. But this is the strategy that has worked for me. Thanks.

I agree with the others that the length is not a problem, I enjoy sitting down and just listening to you ramble at times, if all you did was ramble off a bunch of specs and facts I would not be interested. The presentation adds to the thought you have given to your statements and I love the podcasts you do as well and they are by no means short. As for the person who doesn't see the comparison with Sonos and BluOS, I think they are comparing the apps not the hardware and in your case it is hardware and high level function of the apps.. I think that the "Future-fi" segment is one of the more rapidly changing areas when it comes to hi-fidelity and the applications may become more and more important in the future, to the point where large companies known for fidelity really start to invest in the software development... maybe??

Hi Darko, I have to thank you for your great work!
I would call myself a Sonos victim (self accused) and was always looking for a replacement/level up…
My Setup are the Yamaha HS80m and a Sonos Connect (only S1 compatible)- nothing fancy.
I’m considering to get the setup you are referring in this video and the Sub SVS 3000 micro but no chance to get the speakers in Germany…
Am I doomed with my setup?
And yes - I can’t accept in my head a soundbar- I’m fine with stereo and no wannabe Dolby athmos no one believes in anyway comin out of one single element … or the cinemas are wasting a lot of money 😉

Hello John, Ι was also one who would love it if you could review the Edifier S3000pro since then I'd have a clear comparison of everything else you've reviewed to something I own and listen to everyday. I believe you'd love the fact that they communicate wirelessly with each other, so no umbilical cable, and that they have a very exciting sound. Having watched a fair amount of your reviews though I believe you wouldn't like their treble (a bit fatiguing), and wouldn't care much for their look. So you just do your thing, and please keep talking about music along with everything else.
Sorry for the wordy comment, your videos are long enough, and surprisingly not boring for videos of a bloke sitting and talking about something for half an hour. Keep it up!

Put an order in for an Arc to go with a new TV. Wasn’t thrilled about the cost to add a sub which seems important to get tv and music listening enjoyment. This helped me understand an alternative.

SVS Prime Wireless Pro are nearly double the volume and have more lower bass. They are powered speakers. Kef LSX speakers are both active speakers with either wireless link or wired for the highest data rate.

I've got the Edifier S3000 pro's no they're not streamers but they do sound superb for their price point, However I am tempted by the SVS's along with a sub, sadly the Edifier's don't have a sub output which I wish I had thought through before I bought them. Keep up the good work. Cheers.... 👍

    Ghostly, nice.
Thanks for the review and follow-up. I have Vanatoo T1E's that I'm using with my TV (and love), but they lack HDMI ARC. This is pain point, especially for my wife, so I've been on the hunt for active speakers that have ARC and there are very few, sadly. Like you said, these SVS are ugly, but I might have to give them a go. I've been mulling separates vs. active for this. Maybe I'm trying to find. reason to move the T1E's to my desk. It would be cool to see you review these underrated Vanatoo speakers.
Regarding video length: I'll take having having pertinent info in a long-form video over an abbreviated review every time. Informed buying decisions.

Agree with you that this product compares well with Sonos offerings. I’m thinking of switching to the SVS from a Sonos amp+Vandersteen bookshelves. The Sonos amp is garbling tv show dialog. SVS option lets me ditch another black box from my current setup. Always nice in the “lifestyle leaning” living room.

I would try these with your preferred source content and input source. I really like these speakers for native two channel content but anytime I listen to compressed streaming multi channel native - in its two channel output. The volume has to be cranked up. I'm not sure if this is a function of how the audio is mastered or something else?

Hi John - always find your reviews and rants interesting/funny. I did PM you ref Play Fi - I bought myself a Quad Artera Solus Play with a pair of S2 loudspeakers as an all in one solution to my still growing CD collection and foray into streaming. Play Fi is frustrating especially as there is no Apple Airplay 2 built in. Id love to hear your recommendation for a device I could add to the Quad to bypass the Pay Fi and add Apple Air Play 2.

Actually the SVS has 2 "multiroom" platforms built in. Both in Google (chromecast built in) and DTS Play-fi you can create rooms, combine speakers, play across zones... Double Sonos! ;-)

With regard to the wireless nature of the speaker, in the previous version there was the option to buy two master speakers and pair them in stereo wirelessly through DTS PlayFi, without the need of connecting them with a cable. Now since this version has also Chromecast that also allows for stereo pairing, therefore the question is, can you buy two master speakers instead of a master and slave configuration?

The SVS Prime wireless Pro has a powered speaker and a passive speaker with 4x 50W amplifiers. Does it have active crossovers or are "precision tuned electronic crossover" passive cross overs?
Some DSP active speakers do have a cable between a primary and secondary where the secondary has amplifier but only input from the primary e.g. Linn Series 3 but most with a cable link are powered speakers without an active cross over.
Will speakers with HDMI ARC inputs work from the HDMI out of a laptop or desktop computer?

Thanks for all the information. Pardon my ignorance, but I assume that if you have a Bluetooth turntable, you can sync with these speakers and play LP’s without a receiver or amp?

    • @geraldmcmullon2465
      @geraldmcmullon2465 Рік тому

Bluetooth, at the moment is lossy. Compared to using DLNA or uPnP over wireless and Ethernet the compression is noticeable. You can plug a turntable with a phono preamp into the aux input. That is one reason some have a suitable hub for analogue and digital inputs and then over wi-fi to the speakers. It would work as you suggest if you find a Bluetooth turntable okay to listen to.
