Would love to know how you think this SVS active 2.1 system compares to studio gear of similar cost (Presonus, KRK, etc). Think looking at studio monitors versus home hi-fi would be very interesting.
Would like to see a video of using one of these smaller speaker sets as computer speakers. Like you did with the LSX a while back. I'd love to see a top 5 and set up for setting up a Hi-Fi that lives in an office rather than a living room.
Just a thought for the cable management. 1 inch (2.54cm) grey PVC pipe and 45 degree elbows. By putting the cables through the pipe then a elbow and then connect the pipe and elbow without glue and continue with more elbows or pipe until cables are enclosed end to end (well almost end to end because your going to want a little play at each cable end so as not to kink the cables). And by not glueing the fittings and pipe, as your system or cables change it makes it possible to do so without destroying anything. You can also use any size pipe you like.
Okay, once again I have learned about a product that without this review I probably would have had no interest in. My interest is - however, of the notion that these speakers just might be very good in a "near-field" setting. I like the look of these speakers and they would look very nice on my rather (near future/work-in-progress) large desk top. I do enjoy your reviews.
Thanks John for an excellent review of what sounds like a fine product. I might consider these for my kitchen, which is currently serviced by a single Sonos Play 5. There was a pair of Dynaudio XEO 3 there before. These sound like a good in-between product with the good qualities of both the Sonos and the Dynaudio
First off, I really like the continuity you've managed to create between your reviews by using the €1000 hifi as a point of comparison. Second, I find the use of a proprietary umbilical cable to be clumsy and limiting in terms of speaker placement and cable management. It might make sense to make various lengths of umbilical cable available. However.... I think having a small separate box containing all the electronics would make placement much easier and more flexible. The box could have all electronics-the amplifiers, the DAC, DSP and digital x-over-and would connect to the speakers using readily available speaker cable. The speakers would have two sets of speaker terminals (one for tweeter, one for woofer) and x-over is controlled via DSP. That way you can put the box close to your sources, power outlet, TV, etc.. and then use as long a speaker cable run as you need to place the speakers where you want and conceal the speaker cable.
All year, I've been Jonesin' to purchase a pair of Tannoy Gold Eights, an SVS Micro 3000, and an iFi Neo iDSD to tie the room together. Thanks to our Summer's worth of your worthy and agreeable reviews, I am ever more committed to this configuration. Danke (P.S. this shall be for my PC/desk setup)
Such a satisfying review. I’m glad you didn’t fill the whole episode with music, as you really can’t represent the actual sound through headphones. You’ve established benchmarks that most can understand, real world experience, some struggles to consider (cable length, main speaker locked to the right etc). So I own a UE Hyperboom. in Australia is $499. It has a TOSLINK that I use to context to my TV. I was budgeting to buy another as they have the ability to pair wirelessly and work left and right. But for AUD$1099 it seems you’ve shown me is a system that is wholly superior with so much physical connectivity, the buttons on the front to choose Spotify playlist and a physical volume button. Wow! Because it has HDMI (ARC??) I wonder if I change the volume on the TV would it adjust the volume on the SVS? If so, I will sell the Hyperboom tomorrow.
Keep banging the drum for gapless John, you're doing a good thing. All manufacturers and streaming providers need to get it in their heads that gapless is a necessity.
I love that wireless branded speakers all have so many more cables dangling around than regular passive speakers lol. I'd much rather have just the speaker cable from each speaker going to a central electronic device point that hides the rest of the cables.
3:15 If you are not using the DAC in the speaker, with an external DAC (or anything using the analog RCA), you can put the primary speaker on the left by switching the RCAs around so white connects to red and vice versa, but that would mean for the digitals, HDMI ARC, SPDIF, internal streaming board etc, you would have opposite L/R sounds. You might want a meatier sound, i.e schiit modi 3 or refinement with chord mojo (or maybe a more price appropriate DAC to match the speaker). On the other hand, you may be reluctant to do this, as you will be losing all that built in functionality and the internal dac is tailored to the speakers.
'Futurefi' is certainly making great sounding systems more affordable and easier for the masses. That is something all audiophiles should be excited about. 😊

Great review. I have some prime elevations for my atmos speakers in my home theater - the rest of the home theater is Angstrom wall-mounted speakers. For everything else, I have a whole home Sonos setup. I've bought into the Sonos App experience. However, I have a nook in my dining room that has a bar cabinet with a Samsung frame TV, with a DecoFrame, and I wanted something better looking than a soundbar. So, I put a pair of "the fives" on the bar, which looks very nice. I've added a Sonos port to the setup, so the setup plays whatever is on the Samsung, or plays whatever I'm playing throughout the house. I agree with the bass on the fives, and it took the new app to get it adjusted to where I needed it. It's good now. I also have Klipsch reference 500m's in the garage and a pair of B&W AM1's outside on the patio - all connected to the Sonos system with a Sonos amp. If you go down that rabbit hole of Sonos. It's going to cost a fortune. Anyhow thanks again for the review. SVS is a great company.
The more I see FutureFi systems, the more I’m ready to make the jump and leave all my components behind. I just need to find a nice FutureFi system that has robust room correction. That’s a must for me.

After some knob twiddling I really like the fives, so much so picked up another pair to use with an svs 1000 pro. To me, they sound how I like to listen to EDM. The SVS were on my short list but I can’t get on with how the look, and that screen is straight out of 2012. I have a nicer OLED screen on my flashlight 😂.
You describe these really well, and it isn't that easy. I'm testing them out next to the Q Acoustics M20s - so different - never should have done this. The SVS are very detailed, and the base is deep, but you can also hear the pluck of the strings - it's dynamic. When I listened to Soapkills Tango - those moments where the base kicks in and just runs wild - oh -man! This doesn't happen with the M20s - that level of detail and dynamics isn't there. But the female voice is so beautifully rendered. But I get the feeling q is tailoring things to their preference, rather than let the recording play out. It is alluring, but subtle details get lost, and dynamics get smoothed. For someone they are right - but I don't think they'll ever get you out of your seat. With the SVS you can hear the layers, the fingers on the strings , a when things punch up, you get a visceral punch. They're almost always musical , I say "almost" because if you get a bad recording - you hear a bad recording - not SVSs fault, no gloss. They seem to skirt an edge, but they never break up even though I wait for them to be overwhelmed. Nyet comrade, nyet. And they're not bling, but they're not really ugly - nope. Or maybe - beauty is as beauty does.
Wireless speakers are full of wires once you try to integrate them into hometheatre systems or vinyl. My take would be to only get them if you are going to just stream music 🙂
Had similar need, having two toddlers had to put off streamer, amp, dac and few ohm Walsh 2000/3000 speakers for Undetermined period. Watched Klipsch fives reviews, checked what was in competition or in similar budget and in 2021 December ordered fives. Exchanges sound-bar with minimalist intrusion in regards to wiring, allows streaming in the room, has enough low end to provide tv programs “sub like bass” with update and app provides balanced sound (cinema like lows) on low volumes, no need to crank high to get effects of tv shown movies. Locally they were 900 eur, amazon from US found for 550 with delivery. With Samsung S95B provides clean view and does not intrude to room space on a TV cabinet (TV wall mounted). In 30 sqm room mids/highs throw is borderline acceptable. We still do not have SVS wireless pro on sale locally, but considering the pricing i have doubts that such type of device should cost 900-1000 eur/usd fives/svs alike. For the price 550 with delivery to Lithuania, it is a value buy, above 650/700 barely used gear from ads could be a better fit.
I like the video and review very much, especially since I am considering The Fives. Do you know when they start selling these speakers? I am in the UK and I can't find any online shop selling the SVS Prime Wireless Pro.
Chromecast is gapless when using the Hi-Fi cast (not free but very cheap) application. It may be not "totally" gapless, but I can't really ear a silent between two tracks.
@@DarkoAudio , according the makers of Hi-Fi cast, it is gapless. I've tried it with that classic album , Dark Side Of The Moon (of course) and it plays like it should, like a one and complete piece of music.
@@DarkoAudio I think he just means delay. I can assure you that almost none of the 'gapless' solutions are truly gapless, as there are some technicalities that almost always insert some amount of delay.
@@DarkoAudio It's an android application (I don't know if its available for iPhone). You can stream from your local files on your phone, or from a NAS (that's how I use It). You also have access to internet radio, but it's not Spotify, Tidal or Qobuz connect (that's not very important for me, I only listen to my own FLAC files (more than 40.000 songs) stored on my NAS, using MinimServer or Logitech Squeeze Server.
They're also coming out with the SVS Prime Wireless Pro Soundbase (quite a mouthfull), basically a streaming amp with the internals of these speakers. This looks interesting for a multiroom system with integrated speakers for example. What would you do in that case for each room. - SVS Prime Wirelles Pro Soundbase or - A streamer like the Audio Pro Link 2 (i know you reviewed the link 1) + a small amp like something from Ayima or the likes The setup would be out of sight (so appearance doesn't matter) and mostly connected to in-ceiling or wall mounted speakers Any ideas / tips?
What looks interesting about these (and also the accompanying soundbase streaming amp) is the versatility in sources. Using spotify, bluetooth, inputs for daily listening. But I do see one advantage in having DTS Play-Fi on top of these: if I'm not mistaken you can play a hardwired source from one Play-Fi device (like a record player) and listen on another or multiple other play-fi devices in a multiroom setup, no? I would love to be able to put on a record in the living room and have it play also in the kitchen or in the garden for example as I walk around the house and I do not se another practical solution for this.
Yes! I really don't want to walk away from the music sometimes. I wish I could get something to tie into my main system (reel tape and vinyl) with sound throughout the house. My father did it (wired) in his old house and now that I'm an old man I understand why.
I think you would be better off 2x 2.99 Prime Bookshelf passive + what ever amp option you choose. 899.99 - 2 x 299.99 = 300.01 which gives you all sorts of options for audio feed, and you get bigger woofers.
i had The Fives ( update firmware ) + SB-2000 Pro for play games on my PC and i got now SVS prime wireless Pro + Sb-2000 PRo and i like prime wireless Pro way more the Fives with i play games.
Great product! Do you know what audio quality is used by this Spotify Connect implementation, it uses "Very high" Spotify quality or normal as the TV ?
@@DarkoAudio That's true. I do wonder though if the setup/use is complex/nerdy then who are these for? Enthusiasts who like to tinker (and would therefore go the separates route) or the average consumer who would in all likelihood go buy an airPod for quick/easy music and TV streaming..
1 Power cable, and one speaker interconnect cable, and for a monthly fee for the service of your choice, the world's music is at your fingertips. Why is that hard?
Great review , Thank you. Waiting for some wireless speakers that have room correction. Good way to make this a great streaming speaker is to plug in a sonos port
This looks great. I'm shifting to TIDAL so this would make a great option, right? Thought I think it doesn't work with MQA, do you think it's a fundamental characteristic? Another option would be a Bluesound Node through active speakers 🧐
3 months later, and with these now available for pre-order from some retailers, is there any chance that these would get compared to the KEF LS50 Wireless II?
Gosh. I was about to click the buy button for Klipsh the fives before watching this video. I'm looking to set up a system in the living room. I have a classic Linn Axis, Cambridge Audio plus Bose 901 (yes really) system in my office room but looking for something simpler.
How far from the wall do you recommend to lace these? I know there are a ton of variables, room size, furniture, etc., but my biggest issue is the wife, if I try to put a pair of speakers 3 feet from the wall I will be ran out of the house.
It looks like a very small speaker? Even paired with an SVS 3000 micro sub, would this be fit for a medium sized living room? I’m using an Edifier S3000Pro and it’s physically bigger, has a larger woofer and has more power. It’s also cheaper! These seem too small to be nothing more than fit for a desk top?
I need this question answered with a pro opinion…. SVS prime wireless pro OR the Kef lsx ll…..I’ve listened to both side by side, the lsx is on sale now for $999.00…..I think the SVS sound better, my buddy thinks Kef sounds better. It’s a close call tho. Any opinions?
I haven’t heard the SVS but the LSX II is so not worth it. I heard it in a store twice and doesn’t sound much different from my $500 KEF Egg speakers from 2016. I’m in the market to upgrade to these SVS. The KEF LS50 Wireless 2 called me off buying the LSX II which sounded muted and volume so low in comparison.
I love your reviews and you substantial knowledge of all things audio and video. This is a general comment and not directed at this channel. I started looking at wireless because I wanted to get rid of speaker wires crossing the floors, walls, etc. But most of these "wireless" speakers involve one or more cables/wires/connectors. I just don't see the point of them yet
Hey, I have a question. I have noticed that you have not talked about any krk rokit system to this point. Is there any reason to? I would be very intrested in a review about the krk rokit 5/8 g3 system.
The field for active speakers has grown immensely…since the Audio Engine days. The Triangle Audio AIO Twin Wireless BT WiFi Speakers are next up on my home audition/demo list.
Please share your opinion when you test them as I don't have the opportunity to do so where I live. They also released an active version of borea speakers.
looking to do a 2:1 set up for my TV.....moving away from a sound bar....i have narrowed it down to these 4 sets ups and i am curious about what you think and what anyone thinks would be best for my needs.. SVS PRIME WIRELESS PRO SPEAKERS / EDIFIER R2850DB's WITH SUB / EDIFIER S3000PRO's NO SUB / KLIPSCH THE SEVENS WITH SUB or NINES which would you recommend and rate them....thx in advance....cheers from Vulcan Canada
18:54 I find that offensive also. Dear John, if you're interested in similar spec'd active speakers please review - Edifier 3000 pro - 256W RMS (38HZ ~ 40kHZ), no umbilical, 24/192 DAC HiRes cert, comprehensive inputs including XLR, aptX HD, Remote etc., etc. 4.5 rating on Amazon with 322 ratings, maybe not quite up to your 'posh' brand reviews, however for mine, really decent sonics with extended bass and fully connectible at a reasonable price point. No Sub required !
I wonder why I should by a system with active speakers having to deal with the wire’s you need to connect. For me that is a deal breaker. I have a Marantz PM7000N streamer receiver with all the connections I need. I stream with my IPad using Apple Music in Cd quality and I am still using my regular CD player. As for speakers I use a pair of Amphion Argon One speakers. There are systems like Kef LS 5O metha Wireless but that system costs more than I have spent on the Marantz-Amphion system. Please keep up your good work because with practically every video You I learn something. Ludo Belgium
So, should I go with SVS or 2x Sonos era 100 plus Sonos sub? For Spotify streaming, no tv involved.. Or traditional component setup like Dali Spektor etc…?
Id go with the svs and then get with a sb1000 pro or sb2000 to go with it. Or go with emotiva airmotiv b1+, same sub sb1000 pro or sb2000 and then a traditional Denon or Onkyo receiver. If you were to want to go with non powered bookshelf'sm
Can't really stand umbilical cables anymore. 😔 If it's a "wireless wifi speaker", at this point I prefer it to be a single power cable to each speaker. I realize it's hard to get that full quality sound that way though (96/192kHz).
Yes what a joke. 99% of people will be using AirPlay/Chromecast/Spotify which will always reduce quality to 16 bit thus no need for a cabled connection to enable 96 bit...
I do agree.. Much more prefere the Wisa solution from Buchardt or System Audio.. a hub that you feed all cables to from sources and so on to keep it clean, and only power cables to the speakers.
I have to agree. With the relative cost of digital and wireless tech, makers of this kind of product need to be offering a compact hub unit that deals with the cables which can be placed somewhere convenient, with all speaker connectivity other than power using Wi-Fi, which can easily be a discrete network unique to the speakers themselves if needed.
Curiously, The Fives are always compared with $1000 setups, but they are usually at $450 on US Amazon. Is it fair to keep comparing The Fives with $1000 speakers? Are there $450 speakers better than the Fives?
John is on the money with Play-Fi. I had the 6000aplay and it was utter dog shit. Since moving to the arcam sa30 it’s been life changing. Play-Fi is just unacceptable in this day and age, it’s that bad!
Get the WiiM Mini. I use it for Tidal Connect instead of losing out with Bluetooth over my iPhone. I had the Fives and then upgraded to the Sevens. The WiiM has Spotify Connect as well. It’s frequently on sale. The Fives are kickass little speakers. Klipsch did not include built in wifi as the networks are always improving and it’s better to give you as a consumer the option to add a streamer of choice.

Chromecast is gapless when using the Hi-Fi cast (not free but very cheap) application. It may be not "totally" gapless, but I can't really ear a silent between two tracks.
Well either it is gapless or it isn't.
What is 'hi-fi cast'? Something different to Chromecast?
- SVS Prime Wirelles Pro Soundbase
or
- A streamer like the Audio Pro Link 2 (i know you reviewed the link 1) + a small amp like something from Ayima or the likes
The setup would be out of sight (so appearance doesn't matter) and mostly connected to in-ceiling or wall mounted speakers
Any ideas / tips?
Thank you for the great review. Can I use these speakers for desktop computer application, listening from 1 to 1.2 meters away?
I was thinking about these, but bough AudioPro C10 MkII with their sub. Next time I will go for A38.
Thanks for the video. Which wireless without a connecting video would you recommend?
Thank you very much for your work! Really looking forward for a review of the new Triangle Borea 03 Active, and a comment on how they compare to svs!
I think you would be better off 2x 2.99 Prime Bookshelf passive + what ever amp option you choose. 899.99 - 2 x 299.99 = 300.01 which gives you all sorts of options for audio feed, and you get bigger woofers.
does it work well in close field?
Mr.Darko,
Which one should i buy ?
-svs prime wireless + svs 3000micro
Or
-klipsch seven + svs 3000 micro
Thank you very much Sir 🙏
i had The Fives ( update firmware ) + SB-2000 Pro for play games on my PC and i got now SVS prime wireless Pro + Sb-2000 PRo
and i like prime wireless Pro way more the Fives with i play games.
Great product!
Do you know what audio quality is used by this Spotify Connect implementation, it uses "Very high" Spotify quality or normal as the TV ?
SVS said:
Since Spotify Connect does not live in Play-Fi, it will stream the quality you choose in the Spotify App.
It's amusing how much more complex streaming and active is than a tradition hi-fi. Seems to be an instance of one step forward, three steps back.
A traditional hifi doesn't give you access to millions of songs at the click of a smartphone button.
So it’s these vs Sonos play five? What’s your recommendation?
Great review , Thank you. Waiting for some wireless speakers that have room correction. Good way to make this a great streaming speaker is to plug in a sonos port
You might say the sub really ties the room together, Dude.
Abides.
Shut up Donny
This looks great. I'm shifting to TIDAL so this would make a great option, right? Thought I think it doesn't work with MQA, do you think it's a fundamental characteristic? Another option would be a Bluesound Node through active speakers 🧐
3 months later, and with these now available for pre-order from some retailers, is there any chance that these would get compared to the KEF LS50 Wireless II?
Did you ever get a solution here? I’m comparing the PWP’s with a 3000 micro to the LS50 II on their own (with a sub upgrade eventually)
That issue pf cables coming out of the primary loud speaker has been dubbed "Cable Vomit" by my GF !😁😁
🤮
Gosh. I was about to click the buy button for Klipsh the fives before watching this video.
I'm looking to set up a system in the living room. I have a classic Linn Axis, Cambridge Audio plus Bose 901 (yes really) system in my office room but looking for something simpler.
How do they compare with Q Active 200?
How far from the wall do you recommend to lace these? I know there are a ton of variables, room size, furniture, etc., but my biggest issue is the wife, if I try to put a pair of speakers 3 feet from the wall I will be ran out of the house.
It looks like a very small speaker? Even paired with an SVS 3000 micro sub, would this be fit for a medium sized living room? I’m using an Edifier S3000Pro and it’s physically bigger, has a larger woofer and has more power. It’s also cheaper! These seem too small to be nothing more than fit for a desk top?
If there was a powered speaker I could stream hi res files gapless too that would be awesome
Are you sure you'll hear the difference between hi res and AirPlay CD quality? 🤔
Thanks for a a precise review. How would you compare these with elac navis arb-51 ? Both being active speakers !!
hi .. just an idea... you can switch the speakers so the amplified one is on the other side by just switching the rca cables....
Sorry, no, those cables don't have directionals
Does the remote have a repeat button for the Red Hot Chilli Pipers?
Sadly not.
Kef only sounds better in a specific environment it's overpriced. Go with svs imo. I just bought it to combine with a goldenear sub
Get what sounds good to you. Your buddy can get the Kefs.
Electricity isn't yet wireless. Neither is HDMI. But streaming is -- hence the 'wireless' naming.
Seems easier and cheaper to pay an electrician to route your ethernet cable to your streamer/preamp. Mine cost $350 to hard wire to fiber optic.
So these vs Sonos Fives stereo (with sub)?
Red Hot Chilli Pipers lol
Any chance of a review of the PSB Alpha iQ please?
Great content. Where’d you get those stands from?
Hey, I have a question. I have noticed that you have not talked about any krk rokit system to this point. Is there any reason to? I would be very intrested in a review about the krk rokit 5/8 g3 system.
I wonder what the dynaudio focus 10 would sound like against the svs?
The field for active speakers has grown immensely…since the Audio Engine days. The Triangle Audio AIO Twin Wireless BT WiFi Speakers are next up on my home audition/demo list.
Please share your opinion when you test them as I don't have the opportunity to do so where I live. They also released an active version of borea speakers.
Any news?
looking to do a 2:1 set up for my TV.....moving away from a sound bar....i have narrowed it down to these 4 sets ups and i am curious about what you think and what anyone thinks would be best for my needs..
SVS PRIME WIRELESS PRO SPEAKERS / EDIFIER R2850DB's WITH SUB / EDIFIER S3000PRO's NO SUB / KLIPSCH THE SEVENS WITH SUB or NINES
which would you recommend and rate them....thx in advance....cheers from Vulcan Canada
Awesome video. Their subs are great.
When might these be available for purchase?
18:54 I find that offensive also.
Dear John, if you're interested in similar spec'd active speakers please review - Edifier 3000 pro - 256W RMS (38HZ ~ 40kHZ),
no umbilical, 24/192 DAC HiRes cert, comprehensive inputs including XLR, aptX HD, Remote etc., etc.
4.5 rating on Amazon with 322 ratings, maybe not quite up to your 'posh' brand reviews,
however for mine, really decent sonics with extended bass and fully connectible at a reasonable price point. No Sub required !
Beautiful speakers the s3000pro!
@@Bootrosgali Just go for them. The sound quality will impress almost everyone.
S3000pro is garbage, has really loud noticable hiss
What console are you using in this video? Looks like ikea.
IKEA Kallax.
How good is SVS in imaging and soundstaging?
Wonder if these would be suitable for a desk
Thank you
Wonder how they do in nearfield scenarios incl the sub
Hi Darko, How would you compare these with Triangle Aio Twin?
Never heard the Triangle so no idea.
Please review Magnat Multi Monitor 220, best with their subwoofer. Seems very good built, and the company makes their own magnets.
Could you do a video about the devialet phantom 108db?
He's done a video on Phantom II, I don't think he'll review the 108 db Version anytime soon. Although I'd like to hear his thoughts, too.
My speakers have one cable to the amp, so two cable in total. Where is the difference to your idea except more energy consumption?
Edifier s3000pro
I have to agree. With the relative cost of digital and wireless tech, makers of this kind of product need to be offering a compact hub unit that deals with the cables which can be placed somewhere convenient, with all speaker connectivity other than power using Wi-Fi, which can easily be a discrete network unique to the speakers themselves if needed.
Curiously, The Fives are always compared with $1000 setups, but they are usually at $450 on US Amazon. Is it fair to keep comparing The Fives with $1000 speakers? Are there $450 speakers better than the Fives?
In amazon, the five is $500 for brand new , not include tax
John is on the money with Play-Fi. I had the 6000aplay and it was utter dog shit. Since moving to the arcam sa30 it’s been life changing. Play-Fi is just unacceptable in this day and age, it’s that bad!
Even Volumio on a Pi is better...that's crazy. Even the $99 Wiim Mini Home App "feels" better. That's even crazier.
Hi, I have KEF LS50s and wondering what speakers to upgrade to, to hear a difference?
It's September and PWP is no where to be seen. Come on SVS :P
Currently have the Fives. Sick of having to use Bluetooth for my Spotify. Worthy upgrade ? Other option would be Powernode + Q150 or similar speaker.
IDK. With you on that
Get the WiiM Mini.
I've heard these are a bit better than sevens and worse than nines. Depending ofcourse. So go ahead.
Hi Darko, Sebastian here, from Chile. Great review, thank you!!!
How would you compare these against the Audioengine HD6???
Keep up the amazing work!
Are these available in the UK? Which retailers are selling these in the UK
