Oh man, it’s hot as Hell here Aaron. Doorthy vapor locked (that’s what I’m calling it for now) at Willow Springs and last weekend at Perris due to the heat from the hot laps. I think the Slide A Links are doing a great job. But the low gears are putting a lot of power to the pavement out of the hole so now both tires are spinning. I can’t wait to talk about it all in the next video.
I feel like with those gears, they will probably not be as great out of the hole, since your smaller engine and less aggressive gears allowed you you get the drop on some of the guys with more displacement out of the hole. The gearing, and the (lack of) power allowed you to grab when they could not. I do think though having power going to both tires, and the gearing, should allow you to remove that advantage they had on the top end to a good degree. I'm really curious on how this is going to work. Awesome job explaining the process!
@@HighRevNation Well…your assumptions are mostly correct. There’s more bad results from the gear change. The next race was at Perris, only a 330’ track. So the loosing top end part of your theory wasn’t really realized at this track. But I’m sure you’re right and will be realized on a longer track. Anyway, I plan on releasing the next video at the track this Thursday at 3:45 pm pacific. You’ll get to see how it all plays out. Still a good time. But more changes will be required.
Really cool. 3.91s make it spin easier, but a gain overall I’m sure. Now you have to really practice driving it out of the hole for 20 feet or so. Fun to practice though!
I think you hit the nail on the head rong. We actually went racing Saturday, that video will probably be a week or two from releasing. That’s totally what I didn’t do but after the event it’s all I could think about. I did try leaving off idle but I still put the hammer down too fast. I really need to practice coming into the throttle gradually. First pass, hammer down, Doorthy was sideways all the way down the track. Maybe only 2 inches sideways but I can feel it sideways. It didn’t hook till I lifted at the 330’. It’s Perris, it’s a short track.
Very good video , setup looks similar to a Cal track set up. Something I definitely want to do on the 73 Duster. It may have too much gear for the 1/8 mile , with a spool and 4:89. But we will find out one of these days , when it gets to that point. Again , very good video !!!
Thank you Frank. Yes, the Slide A Links are the same concept as Cal Trac bars. I hope to buy a set of Cal Tracs for my Duster at some point. I can say I do feel a difference. It’s kinda wild being on street tires. And now with the low gear, both tires are spinning. So maybe the low gears was a bad idea. Oh well, it’s what I had. Thanks for positive feedback.
Oh, being that you’re going to the 1/8th mile you might be ok. Big block or small block? Low gears and short strokes go well together. And power helps too. lol. Doorthy doesn’t make a lot of power so after the 1/8th she falls flat on her face.
She did great and not so great. The Slide A Links really plant the tires, that was great. But the lower gears and sure grip make both tires spin easier on street tires, not so great. The car was pulling left so I need to adjust and tighten up the left bar by a couple of flats on the hex. But man, it was a wild ride full throttle. First pass (next video to come out) I gave it all the beans and she was sideways the full 330’ (Perris is a short 330’ track).
I hope not, but if they do I’ll be sure to let everyone know. I was actually looking at other Slide A Link kits after I already made the cuts and they don’t have that bolt and sleeve up front. Maybe they made a design change and got rid of it for that reason. After seeing the newer kits don’t have it, if you think about it, I don’t think it does anything but hold everything together. Which you don’t really need once the you put the front leaf spring bracket on. If I see anything going wrong I’ll try getting g rid of that bolt and change the front hangers.

I'm wondering if those metal pieces that bolt outside of the spring eye will bend or buckle. Looks a little thin, but I guess time will tell.
