Actually they are like big puppies. Their teeth are less than 1/8 inch and are very docile. People come from around the world to snorkel and dive with them. This idiot in the video made a very stupid mistake. Never keep your catch near you when you spearfish. It's like calling the dinner bell.

I was snorkeling off the coast of Cozumel and encountered one of these guys, only bigger, it didn't bother me, it was about 30 feet below me, very impressive fish.

Arif Sabir I thought that is what I saw but what made it most interesting was that it was the grouper the came for the fish and not the shark. It is not unusual for Goliaths to hang around divers but I have never seen aggression reported.

Frédéric Dumas (Jacques Cousteau's primary dive companion - Silent World) had a story of escaping a particularly difficult diving situation just to be confronted with a Goliath and recalled being humiliated at the thought of dieing as fish bait.

Yes there were a few sharks in the area. Most of the time they are just inquisitive and checking you out.
