- Rockford Speedway is a 1/4 mile short track high banked asphalt oval located in Loves Park, Illinois on Illinois Route 173. Rockford Speedway, Chicagoland Speedway, and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway are the only racetracks running under NASCAR sanctions in Illinois.
Illinois racing will never be the same without rockford
To keep ignoring that problem spot is irresponsible
My Dad back in the late 60's hit that point head on..put a V in the front of his car..hit so hard it messed my Dad's back up so bad he had to quit racing..
Damn
That tire is a champ
They should change it to the sand barrels used at tracks like homestead, charlotte, bristol, martinsville, or dover instead of just a huge tyre. Thats just flat-out dangerous.
Takes a lot more time for clean up and getting new barrels. The track I raced at as a kid in the mid 1970's had the pit entrance in turn 3 and exit ion turn 4, It was a flat wall on the entrance, if you went off you hit it head (or side) on. There was a driver killed there in the summer of 1975, slammed into the wall left side first and his head hit it. They put stacks of tires up after that, but the next year a car got upside down, slide into the tires and caught fire, setting the tires on fire. He lived but was burned so bad he never raced, or worked, again. The track closed because of the lawsuits in 1978.
doesnt matter now track shut down this year
Idea: How about the worst Texan short track crashes?
why would any racer keep going back and racing there??????????????????????????????????????????
RIP Rockford Raceway
Did it get shut down?
@@NASCARFAN03yes. The owners retired and the place was sold . It’ll probably become an industrial park.

Why not add a guardrail?
Can you do Riverhead raceway crashes?
Keep up the good work
Rockford has the most cursed pit road
New Paris , Indiana is designed the same way and has had many head ons into the point as bad if not worse. I remember one that they had to use the jaws and literally cut the car in pieces off of the driver. The engine was next to the driver's seat.
Fyi people, nothing is ever getting fixed here. The whole place is being torn down
and rebuilt or shutdown for good? Seems like a neat track
