Since you're such a huge fan of the drum sound, you should check out the live performance of Pneuma that Danny Carey recorded to show off his Vic Firth drumsticks. It's a pro-shot video right up at the drum kit that really shows off his amazing talent.
"7empest" and "Descending" are by far my favorite songs from this album, "7empest" actually won a Grammy (no surprise why, 15 minutes of the best musicians in the world jamming out together). This is the most meaningful Tool album for me, I can't explain why but it just hits different than any other Tool album for me. I hope we don't have to wait another decade for a new Tool album again lol, great reaction as usual Molly! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
"Litanie contre la peur" means "Litany against fear" which comes from Frank Herbert's Dune. If you've seen the last adaptation of this book (Dune) by Denis Villeneuve, I think this instrumental piece fits perfectly with the vibe of the movie.
Love your reactions. This is definitely one of their best albums. I've listened to it so many times now and it just gets better. Just about as perfect as you can get with the production and engineering of an album.
Musically, this is a jam album, where the band creates a groove and then explores it to its conclusion. But lyrically/vocally, this is Tool's most spiritual and calming. The problems of the world is just fear. Exhale and center yourself... kinda thing. 7empest follows the tradition of one big aggressive track (totally sounds like 90's Tool), but as you said, even this tones down to acceptance and calm as the world rages around.
I'll be honest, I don't get this album, and usually I just bow down and accept I'm a dumb ass, but the fact you say "lyrically"... what lyrics? Seriously, Maynard barely whispers a couple of lines on this album. He was my favourite part of Tool back in the day ,so from that perspective fear inoculum is very disappointing. He has barely any contribution.
Idk what it is about Fear Innoculum, but it brings me to tears every time I listen to this album (especially my favorite song "Descending"). It's like Tool tapped into some spiritual force when recording this album, no other band evokes these kinds of emotions in me. Tool is a very special band, others can try to imitate Tool, but Tool is truly a one of a kind band.
I know what you mean, there's something about their music that has a way of burying itself in your soul. They infuse so much emotion in it that it becomes something more than just music. Not sure how they do it but every album has been fantastic.
tool imitated tool here tho. they leaned into this particular element bc of people like you. i miss the days of Aenima, taking that element, and sprinkling it in with the more personal/introspective/analogies/storytelling.
Tool's sonic journey over their career is in line with my journey as a person over my 40+ years on the planet. From angry and aggressive to spiritual in finding an inner peace. There are some who don't like this and expect 60 year old musicians to maintain the same anger and energy they had in their 20s. But Tool matured and grew as most people do with age and experience in life. If you're still angry in the twilight years of your life, you probably didn't live it right.
Totally agreed, with maturity mostly come acceptance of yourself and the world that sorrounds us to a point of making peace within you and the experience of being alive, instead of just eagerly wanting to rage at anything or take the world by assault just because you think you can and got the energy to do so. At least at some point this happens to everyone, cannot hold into your grudges forever and expect not to have a negative impact in your vital experience. Anyhow, this is a fantastic album tied with Lateralus for me.
Damn, with your ability to convey your ideas and concepts about every album you do, you must be well read in literature, philosophy, and have an avid desire to learn not just about music but everything in general. In ways, you remind me of me when I was your age. Like I said before it's refreshing to hear a woman your age giving music from the 90's a listen without using lame terms like Gen this Gen that. You authentically give the music and lyrics a chance and make your own personal interpretation of the lyrics/music which is great to hear. Keep on doing this I know you will get more subscribers soon. With your adoration of Tool(which is well deserved Maynard and his band are amazingly creative)I think you'd like Brainiac especially their 2nd album "Bonsai Superstar" of their 3 Full albums and a few of their EP's and 7" singles. R.I.P Timmy Taylor. Brainiac was highly creative and there was almost no band like Brainiac before and there has never been a band that has ever come close to what Brainiac was.
Oh wow, thanks for the kind words! Glad to hear that you're enjoying the videos and watching my journey into discovering these awesome bands. I will definitely have to check out Brainiac now :)
Perfectly articulated, happy to see how fond you are of this album as I am. Such a profound experience, definitely one of my favorites of all time. Takes you on a transcendental journey.
Another great video! I wanna high-five you (virtually) for sharing my favorite tracks on this album; that is awesome! I also like Pneuma too as a favorite. Always fascinates me how Tool can "paint" a mental picture in my mind when I listen to them, and how on this album they really sound like a band; so balanced. As for the significance of the 7 in "Tempest," it's EVERYWHERE on the album. This theme of "sevens." "A tempest must be just that." (7 syllables). "Don't you dare point that at me." 7 syllables. "Weapon out and belly in..." - 7 syllables. "Drifting through this boundlessness." Again. And so on. Also - if you take out the "skits" of the album not counting the drum solo (Trip) - it's 7 tracks. Anyway; I really enjoyed this album. Aenima is still my favorite but among all the albums that's a very, very tight race. You plan on ranking their albums in a separate vid sometime?
Oh that's very interesting, I didn't pick up on the seven syllable usage on this album. Thanks for explaining. Aenima is still my favorite from Tool as well, but all five albums are so so good. I may have to consider a ranking video now that I've heard all of them, although that will be very difficult!
Awesome reaction, as always!! Freaking loved this masterpiece since it came out; my third favorite album by them, Lateralus and 10,000 Days are still my two favorite Tool ones. My top 5 songs from this album are, from favorite to least favorite: 1. Pneuma 2. Invincible 3. Fear Inoculum 4. Culling Voices 5. 7empest
If this indeed is their final hurrah, they did a pretty good job throwing back and tying up movements from their discography. As always, a pleasure to watch you react to music. Keep it up 👍🏽
Litanie and Legion were done by Lustmord. He's worked on a lot of Tool and Puscifer projects, all the way back to 2001, and the Underworld movie score.
I'm sure a lot of people have already said this but Maynard James Keenan actually has two other bands he's in!! A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Both are fucking amazing and I'm sure will get you your Maynard fix should you need one. I would LOVE a series of reactions to either of these bands. I'm sure you've got lots of other's lined-up though and I can't wait to see what they are :)
I will definitely be checking both of those out now! A Perfect Circle has been toward the top of my list for a long time now, I've just been waiting to finish up with Tool's albums first.
It's not polite to guess someone's age, but I wonder what you will think of Invincible when you are in your 40s (because I'd be shocked if you were that old). I don't think I would have gotten that song when I was your age, but that song was like Maynard looked into my soul and wrote about all of my regrets and fears. In my mind, it's a sequel song to Jambi - or maybe that's just the beauty of this great band; that you can find meaning that speaks to you - whether it was intended or not.
An Album I think would be awesome if you reviewed is an album called Wonder What's Next from Chevelle. It's amazing from start to finish and is one of the most powerful records I've ever listened to, it means a lot to me. I don't normally comment on videos but I love your commentary and would like to hear your input on the record. They also get compared a lot to Tool funny enough
Aw thanks, glad you're enjoying the videos! I'm actually familiar with that album, I did an album ranking for Chevelle a while back on my channel if you want to check it out. I agree that they definitely have a similar sound to Tool.
This album has grown into maybe there best. So glad you got to this one. It's the peak of music. Amazing song writing.. Still the best band in the world
@@cobaltfalcon9458 Haha I know! Right now Aenima is probably my favorite and then a 4-way tie between the rest. I'm in trouble if I ever attempt an album ranking for them...
Listen to you carrying the lyrics into the movement of the song! More upfront than those the Undertow days, Plus, you got Tool over a few months -- took us years! I think you'd find a "No Quarter" Led Zepplin/Tool first time listen would be really interesting. About a 10-min song with lots to unpack. They're the same, there's a big difference, and it's totally worth hearing them back to back.
Pneuma reminds me of Godzilla. You get all the little pops of the people trying to kill him or drive him away.... Then Godzilla just kicks the crap out of everything in the chorus
Tool's Fear inoculum was better than I thought it was. Just Pretty Solid! Now usually I would ask for your input on a band's favorite album. However with Tool, it's really difficult. Because they are all good. I may enjoy Lateralus one minute, then Undertoe the next. Or Aenima, etc. So I can't pick a favorite album from Tool.
If you want more long buildups and in general long songs with multiple phases, I would try some more records from Godspeed You! Black Emperor if you not already know them, saw that you mentioned their 2021 release in a video. F#A#∞ or Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven are the most popular albums for starters.
I’m glad you finally got to this album. Amazing piece of work! Now that TOOL is done, it’s time to move on to A Perfect Circle. P.S. Check out my Pneuma bass cover on my channel if you get the chance.
13 years of build up and living up to the task, they delivered, worthy release imo on par with Lateralus. Edit; since tool albums are over how about some A perfect circle? Lil tool, jk, they rock!
What a jip 😤 My favorite band and you didn't thot it up 😠 Still loved it. So fun. I'm not loving that blue shirt but I like it. Bopilina, you are HELLA fine 😈
I love me some Tool, but I feel like this album boarders on WANK, and I feel a lot of Tool fans are afraid to say it lol. It has its moments tho, def better than a lot of stuff out there these days.
this isn't my favorite Tool album if I'm being honest, but it's still a reallly good album. The instrumentation is their best in my opinion. The vocals are not very good in my opinion, especially in the sections where they're distorted. Still, I think this album is very good, and Pneuma is one of my favorite songs of all time. Great video :)
maybe it's been said, but this took so long due to many legal issues, and according to maynard, the album was better 8 years ago (from when it was release, or in 2020) so, will they release the cut tracks for another album, or is this it?
Hi, I know what I will say is unrelated to the music styles you react to, but have you heard Torches by Foster the people? Because I want to see your reaction, not sure if it would amount to anything, however there is not reactions to the albums in UA-cam, could be a first.
It's definitely their calmest sounding, to my ears the most restrained album in their discography. I personally found it really interesting to listen to, a lot of subtleties going on with the sound, but everyone has a different taste.
@@mollyesanborn to each their own. Glad you found some enjoyment in it. Feels to me like they reused motifs and riffs from 10k days. Or used parts that were left on the cutting room floor. I swear I hear the Jambi riff a few times during. Saw them live a few months ago and they were also the worst songs on the set list ha. I had hoped they'd sound better live.
For me, its difficult to really like most of Tool's songs on the first listen. It almost has to steep and fester in my brain for months or years before it hits me. The payoff is always worth it.
This album is my least favorite Tool record but only because the others are so excellent and this one is just good, not great to me. The interludes don't really work for me. Glad you have run through the entire Tool discography though. A Perfect Circle next?
To cut an album that’s an over an hour long down to 28 min, of which 20 of them aren’t the music but you talking, is an incredible disappointment for a reaction video
If you have never heard Tool with subs on a tuned system you have not heard Tool even with the best head phones you can’t get there. Go to a Car Audio shop and tell them you want to hear their best system and put Tool in and crank it if you do not have a good system.
Awesome review and reaction! Pneuma is such a great song and love the drumming by Danny C throughout the album. Please check out and review the album, For the First Time by Black Country New Road
Yes, Danny Carey SHINES on this album! He is just brilliant. And I've actually heard that album from Black Country New Road but it was a while ago, I'll have to give it another listen :)
@@TheBrandonn Im in the minority as a tool fan, and actually like 4 of their albums more than fear inoculum personally, but that is not to say i dont like it. it is a great album and worth putting on when you have the time to go cover to cover. My reasoning is I feel its a lot more instrumental, less lyrics going on and also generally slower tracks all around than usual. definitely more calming and chill as a whole but i like stuff like ticks and leeches, aenima, lateralus etc which are a bit more up tempo, heavier, more lyrics besides buidups and bridges and musical intrludes. this is just my take. they dont have a bad album but doesnt mean i dont have preferences
Molly, hi from Ukraine! Thanks for the great content. Have you heard Code Orange? Their album Underneath is just an amazing blend of metal and industrial. Listen to the track "Swallowing the rabbit whole" and you'll understand what I mean. Great channel and commentary in general. You help me getting through air raid alarms and keep sane. Thanks 🙏
Thank you for watching! I'm glad the videos are providing some entertainment for you. I've actually heard Code Orange and seen them live too. Such a great band, they really bring so much energy to their music.
This album was a bummer, lol. I'm of the few who found it disappointing, but I saw that coming since 10,000 Days. By that album they started to become derivative, and derivative is what Fear Innoculum totally is. I'm sad that this is what we got after 13 years of waiting. I was ok with Tool not releasing anything anymore since 10,000 Days. I prefer that a band leaves at its peak or beginning of the decline than to have them pulling out weaker albums. This album has no edge, Maynard's vocals are lacking of life and passion. The drumming of Danny Carey will always be the saving grace. I like that this album is kinda prophetic. It was released just months before the pand3m1c, and the lyrics reflect a lot of the social situations we've been living since then, although it was more based on political polarisation and manipulation, something Maynard explored in more depth in the last A Perfect Circle album, Eat the Elephant. By the way, are you going to react to A Perfect Circle some day? I'm liking it a little bit more now, but it won't become one of my fav Tool albums, at all.
While "Undertow" was their first "album", there was an earlier release "Opiate" but it was shorter than the minimum length to technically be an "album" so it was an "EP" (extended-play, somewhere closer to a maxi-single). The terminology is nitpicky, but ends up a bit misleading since it's not their first "release". They reference it in "Hooker..." lyrics as "92, the first EP". So you should definitely check that out, and hear the really young version of the guys, and the first bass player (Paul) as on "Undertow". Maybe to cap it all off also "Salival" which was more of a potpourri / covers / curiosities box-set thus isn't considered a true album, then you will have gotten all the "albums" *and* all the "releases". There are really really good things on there.
Hi Molly! Love your videos! I really enjoy how articulate and effective you are at expressing the sonic qualities of a track, keep up the good work! One album you should definitely check out is Sound Awake by Karnivool, since you’ve enjoyed Tool so much I think you’ll love this one!

7 minute buildup? Try 13 years lol
You stole my comment, buddy! 🌀🌀🌀👏👏👏😁😁😁
Haha, nice one!
Whoa, did you just finish all the Tool Albums?? Did you do their first EP "Opiate"?
Awesome video!! Fucking love Tool!!!!
Phneuma live is amazing.
If you want more long buildups and in general long songs with multiple phases,
I would try some more records from Godspeed You! Black Emperor if you not already know them, saw that you mentioned their 2021 release in a video.
F#A#∞ or Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven are the most popular albums for starters.
Listen to porcupine tree's in absentia or fear of a blank planet......you'll fall in love😉
Love your reactions,I am a huge tool fan, have you ever thought of doing Porcupine tree.
Listen To Pantera, Machine Head and more Sepultura albums 🤘
Take your perverted self somewhere else. Never a reason for comments like this.
@@MadCritter I like my comment. It is fun for me. You're so mean, you bullied me and you ruined my fun 😇 I hope Molly blocks you for bullying 🥲
You should totally listen to the opiate ep, the salival album, and maybe even listen to the redone version of the opiate song called opiate2
Just a note, those introlude tracks arent actually a part of the album they're bonus/ extra tracks.
There's a few albums for you to check out.If you have never heard Opeth, you have been sadly depriving yourself of sheer musical beauty.
I have not heard anything from Opeth yet, I've got them on my list though. They get suggested a ton.
OPETH
"Ghost Reveries"
Thanks for the upload! Pneuma is pronounced "new-ma" (/ˈnjuːmə/).
This girl said "right before Fear Inoculum" for 10 000 Days. I am dead
One more right before like that and there will be none of us left 🤣😂
do u have plans on doing the newest Mars Volta album?
I still haven't heard it yet so perhaps I'll do a reaction, I'm not sure yet.
I'm holding my breath waiting for
Down- NOLA
Laibach- Sound of Music
Gwar- Scumdogs of the Universe
Sweet!
Hi Molly please do spineshank
ANGRA - TEMPLE OF SHADOWS
10:40 is a distorted bass solo.
Very nice video
Thank you! :)
@@mollyesanborn ill niño album next?
Can't wait until 2030 for them to publish more music so you can react 😂😂😂
🔥🔥💚🔥🔥
hi molly,
since you like the percussions, try to react of DANNY CAREY PNEUMA drum cam..
more power to your channel..
I liked this album a lot. But it just felt like GIANT drum solo for me. I just need to give it more listens.
I thought cello too..thought Adam played at a young age
Astrocreep 2000!
I recommend checkin out some opeth!
Like always any tool album is just a ton experience within itself. Just get lost in the music and enjoy it
I suggest you start doing Puscifer reactions
Conditions of My Parole
Money Shot
Existential reckoning
maybe it's been said, but this took so long due to many legal issues, and according to maynard, the album was better 8 years ago (from when it was release, or in 2020) so, will they release the cut tracks for another album, or is this it?
Can you listen to the albums by the band Raspberries please. They made 4, Raspberries, Fresh, Side 3 and Starting Over.
Hi, I know what I will say is unrelated to the music styles you react to, but have you heard Torches by Foster the people?
Because I want to see your reaction, not sure if it would amount to anything, however there is not reactions to the albums in UA-cam, could be a first.
stop skipping! my god next!!
xxx
Really didn't like this album. Think it's comfortably their worst and least interesting.
Whenever I finish listening to Descending I feel like I cheated on my wife.
Super Good Review Molly!😘
Thanks! :D
@@mollyesanborn 😘
Awesome review and reaction! Pneuma is such a great song and love the drumming by Danny C throughout the album.
Please check out and review the album, For the First Time by Black Country New Road
Yes, Danny Carey SHINES on this album! He is just brilliant. And I've actually heard that album from Black Country New Road but it was a while ago, I'll have to give it another listen :)
This is definitely my 2nd favourite Tool album behind Lateralus. Pneuma is a excellent song!
wow really? im incredibly shocked to see people comparing this to their old work. I might have to give it a try. Probably wont lol but ill consider it
@@TheBrandonn you’ll know when it’s the right time my man.
This album just didn't do it for me. Great production though.
Yeah, the production is pretty fantastic!
In the intro of Pneuma is only drum xD
In my opinion, this is a perfect album. Not one note out of place. Totally worth the wait.
I'm liking it a little bit more now, but it won't become one of my fav Tool albums, at all.
pls react to mr bungle california
Great reaction ❤️ just wanted to point out it's "new ma", as in pneumatic.
Ahh, thank you for the clarification!
and it's ancient Greek for "breath" so you perfectly picked up on the whole breathing feel of the song, which they put there intentionally.
Album suggestions:
Cave In: Heavy Pendulum
Opeth: My Arms, Your Hearse
Thin Lizzy: Renegade
Thank you! :)
I think your bang on with your comments ,after a first listen and the detail of Tools music .
Tool is just an experience 🤘🏼
Hi Molly! Love your videos! I really enjoy how articulate and effective you are at expressing the sonic qualities of a track, keep up the good work!
One album you should definitely check out is Sound Awake by Karnivool, since you’ve enjoyed Tool so much I think you’ll love this one!
pls do APC which is a side project band of maynard
I like the stink face and how you turn at the camera in anticipation, then the satisfaction.
I'm sure it's been recommended already, but definitely check out the Danny Carey drum cam video of Pneuma, it is absolutely mesmerizing.
