What is the best value Warhammer army? 40k, Age of Sigmar, Kill Team, Warcry, they all require armies, which take time. Painting and looking at models, I'll try and help you make the right decisions, based upon what you value the most.

For me, the best value I've ever gotten from a single purchase was the Carnevale starter box. 80 USD for two skirmish size crews, a rulebook, a box of terrain, a plastic gondola, terrain tiles, dice and tokens. It was amazing.
Very nice!
Love to see the Dakota Irish shout!
And feels great to have that in store banter about Chaos Daemon Supremacy validated in the video 😆
Haha, what have I done. What have I become. FOR DORN.
Good choice of 'value', time. One thing always in short supply, ironically more so if you have a hobby business. Excellent video Olly.
Hahahahaha, I didn't expect that...but that was my logic when I start playing Warhammer. CHAOS DEMONS FTW! It also helps that I really like the models.
I always joke with my friends when a new WH game comes out that I already have a Demon army ready to play it.
I found Grey Knights a super cost effective way of building up a good force, and so easy to paint up! A lot of terminator = a lot of points.
Yeah, absolutely. Grey knights and custodes are high point/low model count armies. :)
Grey Knight? Easy to paint? Are you high?
I wish they would bring back the boarding patrol boxs. They looked fun had nice value and sold out...
They were really good. I think we have a few in our store, but the majority went so quickly!
I'm a fan of the imperial guard mechanized armour group. Gotta love a bunch of tanks rollin' across the battlefield.
It is a beautiful sight.
Love a good value for money video! Also great to see Dakota Irish! Love them and their dice
Yeah, they're so good. Love the swirly inside bits. 😀
Love the video. Both of your content is great but I wanted to comment on Dakota Irish. Love that you found a local sponsor with cool products and great values. I love to see it. I will buy from them soon.
Yeah, they do really good stuff! Make sure to check them out :) And thank you :)
Basing Chaos is a breeze, too! mud for texture, dry brush a bright contrasting color, then use a counter contrast paint.
for this red demon, bright white dry brush, then either hexwraith or imperial fist yellow. makes the minis pop
Amazing job and well explained.
pudelko do grania i na kostki super sie prezentuje , dzieki za filmik😉
I'm a Necrons guy but now I'm attracted to Chaos Daemons. Thanks for the inspiration. 😊
Sorry about that haha
This was a very nice video and well described way of it. As a veteran I get exactly what you’re meaning by like all of this 😅 I’ll send my friends this way if they ever ask :)
Tinny Tin + Verdigris, plus adding in some highlights with a bright brass, is my favourite combination of paints at the moment. I’ll use it at any excuse.
Absolutely! That's exactly what I did here! It's so good. I tell everyone to do it haha.
Khorne has always been my favourite chaos god! Nice work 👍
Thanks!
Really good video, thank you for this one!❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Chaos knights were my jump back into 40k.
I used to play Orks and that gave me an aversion to building n painting hordes.
Knights meant I only needed 5 models to get to an easy 1000 points.
I bought two boxes of Armigers on sale and modded an old Warmachine Colossal into my Knight.
All in all it was an easy project.
Yeah, Knights are a great way to pick up an army. Low model count is brilliant!
@@BroadswordWargaming oh yeah they also double as a handy points filler if I wanna branch into Chaos in general
I collect Nurgle Daemons for the same reason. Have played 40k and AoS with them. Still waiting on HH rules. A tad more expensive than Khorne to get started though.
I've been thinking about this a lot too. My main game is (and probably always will be) MESBG. But sometimes I get tempted by the various worlds of Warhammer. By purchasing the Chaos Daemons Combat Patrol, you instantly have an official army for 40k, AoS, WHFB, Old World, Kill Team, Warcry, Grimdark Future, and Age of Fantasy, and the models could also be used in Horus Heresy, Blood Bowl, or Mordheim using unofficial fan rules. That's some pretty good value for money in terms of the ability to dip your toes into basically every 28mm Warhammer game and setting.
The problem is...I don't LIKE daemons 😂
Daemons really are great fun to paint.
I think so too! I'm going to finish everything here by tomorrow, then add in some big stuf! Can't wait to actually be able to play games with a painted army. SO easy.
That verdigris product is very interesting, i always just used turquoise watered down about 75-25 paint to water and let it dry a bit before wiping it off from the raised surface.
I would highly recommend it, it's a wonderful product. They do a rust which is even better. 😀
This strikes a chord for me. Returned to the hobby last year by buying the Thousand Sons xmas box as I love how they look, but it seems my key resource is time just like you. 8 months later i have built everything and painted a grand total of almost 5 rubric marines!
So this week I lost patience and just started getting paint on Magnus, which is lots of fun. I will keep going with the rubrics as I like them, but I need something less detailed too to keep it fun definitely! So based on this vid maybe some horrors to go alongside them...
Tsons power armour trim will literally grind you to dust.
I bought the recruit edition then sold the marines then i bought a necron box
Recommending area militarum is a cheeky thing
Why? If you want lots of models for your money, they're good value. That combat patrol (and genestealer cults) contains more models per pound than other sets. Therefore, value for money!
The video is about what value means to people. Not everyone wants to spend their money on 12 models worth of painting.
While I agree for GW Systems Daemons are the best $$ value, they are not so flexible if you don't build into Khorne (or maybe Slaanesh if you can find the old Start Collecting). But, they're not to useful for Infinity, Legion or Shatterpoint ;)
For a predominantly red scheme like Khorne an interesting variant on your approach is this:
Prime Ultramarine (pick your brand), wash with a dark purple, zenithal with white, apply Express Colour - Cardinal Purple to the majority of the model, leaving things like the face and the tops of shoulders etc. Then apply Express Colour - Plasma Red over the bits you left, making sure you overlap a bit as well. It sounds more complicated, but you can potentially skip all the drybrushing, or just do the 1 layer of it. If you happen to have an airbrush, using it to apply the Cardinal Purple and Plasma Red makes it even faster.
Of course they won’t be good for legion or shatterpoint
@@tennesseedogpack so not good for "every system" and variants there of? :p
Probably being a tad pedantic. They're good for most systems, which is true. Obviously, not for specific IP games..
@@BroadswordWargaming sure, but I'm old and grumpy and consider non-GW stuff a lot.
If you want a GW army you can get a couple Warlord Games Landsknecht boxes and have an Empire army. Or get a couple boxes of Perry Miniatures instead/in addition, Perry can also be used for Bretonia.
For WH40k? Get Some WW1 to Modern historic figures. Maybe even some tanks (You may need to look into 1/35 scale for the oversized figures).
As long as You don't play in-store/competitions this seems the best.
Enjoy your videos, I don’t feel so bad about my pile of opportunity after seeing all your grey 🤣🤣🤣
Haha, well, that's good! Tip of the iceberg, my friend.. 😄
Excellent video and very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Have you successfully varnished over the dirty down verdigris? Or rust for that matter.
You forgot to say in the video that the best value you get when buying an army is when you buy said armies on a certain shop in west Ireland
haha, of course !shill
Which dice were being rolled at the 4:41 second mark. Those are gorgeous dice.
Ooo, I'll have to double-check. They're beautiful right!? I've never owned dice with a moving inside bit!
I went on the dakota irish website thinking they might of been 1 of theirs but didnt see one that matched.
If you find out please let me know - ill pick ‘em up :D
The answer is always daemons in my opinion because they're interchangeable for systems but then if you don't like daemons it's generic space marines because you can play near every space marine book or even chaos with them(they're renegades not chaos worshippers)
But if you're me.. the best value is the thing that can be modelled for maximum hours. Eg, Orks and knights courtesy of kitbashing for orkz and magnetising, greenstuff and customising knights bases to death.
I've seen people invest over 500 hours to 1500 points in knights.
Hey cool. New video. I love my Necrons.
Wooo! Necrons are so good (and easy to paint!)
Correct answer: whichever STLs you like the best.
My first 4 Armies I got for Free in 1996 wood Elves, High Elves, Empire & Bretonnians my friends partner at the time made him throw them out in the Barracks Skip bin so I liberated Them 🔥 🔥 🔥 😂😂😂
There was 4 dragons in amongst that lot 😂
That's awesome. I used to have a few of those back in the day too.. all gone now though! Noooo.

Good video!🥳👍🏻
Thanks! 😀
Considering how good Custodes are I'd say they are the clear answer
They're definitely a contender but can't be used in Age of Sigmar or Wacry. 😀 They're good for HH, though!
I feel like they didn’t do their research, I didn’t see a 3D printer.
That's not the point of the video, though. That's a different topic altogether.
You'd still need to print AND paint 5+ armies to do the job of daemons. Sure. Print them if you like, but you still need to paint them..
Waiting for forgeworld to release start collecting Imperial titans
Good value incoming haha
Maybe the true value is the friendships we make along the way in this hobby haha
Or in this case all the daemons we made and painted along the way. 😉
Oooooooo fancy dice 😮😅. Great vid and I agree with the daemons. Excellent for both games
Arguably the best value, so I assume GW will change that at some stage :P
Of course!
The best Warhammer 40k army when it comes to price is not to buy one to walk away from 40K all together. That's the best value
Hi Oliver, did I hear you doing the voice over on a Metal Gear Solid advert? Convinced it was you, if not someone has stolen your voice.
Ha, yeah, that was me! Metal Gear Solid man!
The issue with combat patrol and the box contents is that the rules are connected to the main rules and points, as min-maxers in comps abuse the systems that GW didn't bother really testing the game value of the boxes is going to change, either from the changes in rules or the points values of the contents of the boxes creating unbalance, GW should just bridge the Combat Patrol rules off fully from the main rules and balance them by combat patrol vs combat patrol games only to create their ~50% desired win rate for each army.
+1
I like Sisters, but I couldn't buy a starter box, because arco-flagellents and penitent engines are gross. 🤢🤮
Yeah, that's fair. They're pretty grim! Always hard to settle down on an army.
@@BroadswordWargaming Yeah, I think I would go with something like all of the sisters variants and rhinos.
Probably never win a single game with an army like that? but at least you could look cool loosing.
@@bopaintsminis that's all the matters!
Thank you , Broadsword .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
So, you have chosen heresy.
Yes, Inquisitor, right this way.
Warning! Pure heresy ahead!!
I must repent.
indeed i dont waste money because my 3d printer goes burr.
Same
Sure, you Burr away! Not quite what I was looking at, but the more models the merrier!
I fell for the "play what you like" and " everything is good once in a while meme" . Picked my army at the start of 8th ed. Horrible expiriance, first l went with what l liked (terminators) then slowly began buying in to what was considered the proper way to play with the army (zero terminators) . Found out that even the best of the best for my faction pales in comperation to what other factions were running localy. 9th was a slog for 2 years, one of the worse factions to play, no new models , but l invested so much money, that l wanted to wait for the new codex. When it dropped in 9th, the army became good, but only if you used 6 (later 5) of one of the worse looking models in the entire game. By the time l got to 3 of those, GW nerfed the army and released so much crazy stuff that the army went back to being unfun to play. Ah and in 9th we got one new model a special character, and what l thought was a terminator librarian. But l later found out it was a general all space marine librarian model. Then 10th came . The army seemed interesting with new core rules, but then l saw and later played with the index, and it felt like being in 8th ed index all over again. Now l feel just bad. Wasted a ton of money, 7 years of my life, was frustrated at something that was suppose to make me forget about work, war etc. On top of that l couldnt even get in to painting, or lore, because in three editions GW didn't release much new stuff .
Korn 😂
Just a "freak on a leash".
@@BroadswordWargaming always knew Ciara wore the pants in your relationship, but now we know she holds the leash too 😉
HERESY!
Best value Warhammer army is a 3D printed one😂
Not quite where I was going here, but sure, 3d printing them is cheaper.. but you'd still need to paint multiple armies. I value my time above all else, really.
3d printing literally gives you 2000 points armies for 70 euros of resin
Sure! Not quite where I was going with it, but that is true.
@@BroadswordWargaming yeah, tbh as a 17 year old it's all I can afford 🤣
