My dad had a 1973 Dodge Charger SE Brougham. 318 slapstik automatic with center console gunmetal Gray black vinyl top, black interior black-and-white Tweed cloth , PS, PB, AC
Many of these had the 318. The dual exhaust and a little bump in timing is good for around 20 horse power. Chrysler never built a more reliable V8 than the 318. They'll run forever. Maybe not the hottest engine, but if you just want to drive it and enjoy it, you couldn't ask for a better engine. Want a little more umph, get an Edelbrock 318 intake and a small 4 barrel carburetor and enjoy it more. Get a reproduction unsilenced air cleaner for that genuine early Mopar sound. The exhaust and carb updates really awaken a 318 up, w/o any real detriment to reliability. Enjoy the ride.
My dad’s buddy had one of these in the late 70’s, metallic silver almost identical except it had buckets and console. This is one of the most beautiful cars of the ‘70’s (maybe only bettered by the early ‘70’s Satellite/Road Runner). Thanks for the awesome video👍👌🆗😁✅
Most definitely a 318 2bbl and surprised it didn't have a/c being a SE model. Can be added, there is a kit for that. Throw that trunk mat away and treat that rust now before it gets worse. That color is stunning and that engine sounds perfect. Buy it and enjoy it!!
My 73 SE did not have air conditioning. Very rare up here in New England at the time. Mine was also the Brougham. Like the steering wheel in the 73 better than the 74. Thanks for sharing.

My father bought it new in 1974 from my grandfather who was GM of the local Dodge, C, P dealership. I think it cost about $3200 brand new, with grandpa's discount.
My aunt bought a 1974 Charger brand new, when I was 15. It was a light blue with a white top. While I actually prefer the '69 and '70s, I also love these, in a slightly different way. I am a HUGE fan of ALL 1970s 2 door personal luxury cars with opera windows. And that is kind of what Dodge turned the Charger into. It went from being a muscle car to a very sporty personal luxury car, and I love both.
@@TheSpritz0 I actually prefer points and condenser ignition. When something does go wrong with it, it is easy to figure out what the problem is and fix it. Electronic ignition is a little harder to diagnose, though it was still pretty simple back in the '70s. It was when OBDII came along, they completely did away with distributors, and the engine management computer controlled both the EFI and ignition that things became impossible to work on without a shop full of very expensive diagnostic equipment, and the price of parts became ridiculously expensive. My daily driver for the past 20+ years has been a 1972 Ford Pinto woodgrain wagon, with points ignition. I change the points and condenser every 5 years, they have never needed any other attention. I carry an extra set of points, a condenser, and coil with me, but have never needed them.
I appreciate the 60's and 70's cars as I grew up with them but I can attest owning a newer model Nissan Altima has shown me RELIABILITY is much better now!
That was my first car. Bought it in October of 1974 for the amazing price of 4188.00. That was the most beautiful car ever designed imo. Mine was gold metal flake with the white 1/2 vinyl roof. That had the most badass a/c I’ve ever seen, you could hang meat in it lol. DAMN I miss that car, I still dream about it after all these years. Would love to own one again but I never will😪

I had a 74 charger SE with a factory 440 auto in floor console shift back around 1979, same color and top, black interior, it looked as good as this one.
Funny how you started the engine without being seated and buckled. ALL '74s were mandated with a seatbelt interlock-there was an override on the firewall for eliminating the need to be seated and buckled. BUT there was a way to bypass the interlock-I'd say this Charger's owner found out how to do it. And yes I am a '74 Charger owner-original! My gal just celebrated her 50th birthday!
Bought a new 74’ Dodge Charger SE. Dark brown, Chrysler called it Moonstone. Tan interior. 318, auto. I ran it for 6years, 98,000 miles. Sold it to a friend. He ran it till it registered 136,000 miles. Timing belt broke, it had lots of rust. Scrapped it @ 1984. Carl
I bought a 74 Charger in 75. It was the hard top with 318 engine. It was a nice car to drive, the trunk was HUGE! I could never get the tires to break loose though. The biggest problem I had was driving in Minnesota winters when the engine was cold. It would die on me when starting out until the engine warmed up. Not good when you are entering traffic. I removed most of the vacuum hoses and retimed it to 10 deg. btdc from factory 0 deg tdc. It ran much better. I would have another one. It was a nice car.

I had this car! Loved my charger! Kept me safe many times, course I probably terrorized many...oops! Many fun tales! My charger was a monster and no where as neat as this one! This is a beauty and how mine should have looked if I hadn't kept bashing and crashing it and getting run over by it and racing it and so on!

Unusual for a Charger SE. No A/C and the wood grain on the passenger side says Charger. SEs have Charger SE on the wood panel and A/C vents.

For post performance car in 74 , charger still had that killer look/shape muscle car design. Last of its breed for sure
