those cars could take it, i drove a 72 roadrunner 383 with a blown head gasket and overheating from Virginia to Tennessee and it made it with out quitting.
Considering it's age someone went to the junkyard and found some '73-'74 taillights and maybe that Rallye hood. It is a big block engine. It probably overheats once it gets out of the driveway and takes longer to get to work. Don't forget Rock Auto is sponsoring the segment. No problem drilling hole in t'stat. Finding parts for body of '72 is harder than the more plentiful '73-'74 models. A lot will interchange. Let's don't nitpick a daily driver.
Rockauto, rockauto, rockauto, and more rockauto. I think we get it that you can get parts from rockauto. I just don't get how all of these people buy all of these vehicles and don't have any clue to change parts. Especially when it is a classic car that parts are easy to change.
Just curious, are you planning on trying to get him a proper front and rear bumper plus grilles and taillights ?. Would look a tad nicer with the 72 set up.
1972 had 3 different styles of grilles and tail lights depending on the model and production month. Front had the hideaway, the grille with a silver loop, to the black out loop and black out and typical 73' style grille. Same with the tail lights. They varied from the solid, to the angled, to the 73' versions some blacked out and some not. My guess this was a late production model.
Can't believe you were right there an didn't do the timing chain set ??? Now when it goes out and usually soon. It all comes back off agin and will cost him an arm an a leg to have done !!! And what 6,8 more bolts an future problem solved !!!!! Some people just have to learn the hard way !!!
I agree that timing chains are wear items - but it’s certainly more involved than “6-8 more bolts”. You have to drop the front of the oil pan, the front crossmember, and pull the crankshaft dampener.
its a 73 or 74 but its not a 72 i had one and the front grill had round head light rings those are a 73 head light rings and the tail lights are not a 72 i look in the junk yard for a new tail light and it was different your project is a 73 to a 75 72 was the only year of the tail lights it had
No, it's a '72 with '73 or '74 grille and taillights put on it - just like several earlier comment posters have said. Check out the side rear window shape. That shape was only available on the '72 (and '71) models.
@@robertcard8200 Good question, but one that you would have to ask the owner. However, if I had to guess I'd say the car had an accident back in the day and the 1973 parts were available cheaper and/or more locally than the 1972 parts as repair items.
He needed help for that? If I called friends for these jobs I'de be laughed out the room! Very cool car though, the man has taste at least, but if you're going to run an old car, know how to do the basics... wait, it's a forty year old car, it's all basic!

Good to see the charger running and driving good.great work.everone.
Hey that's pretty cool to help people out like that good job guys
I used to own this car! I am glad its seeing the road again!
If you decide to sell it I would like a shot at buying it back.
In the beginning he says “it has a huge overheating problem, it doesn’t like leaving the driveway” then says “he daily drives it to work” whattttt
Well to be fair, he only said it doesn't like leaving the driveway, not that it doesn't leave the driveway at all.
He probably works at the dispensary right down the street on the corner there.
he probably work close to home

Glad to see RockAuto sponsor a show like this, it gives the public hope. Guess its my turn for support so will subscribe

Rockauto didn't have parts for my 74 charger :/
That's awsome that you help out normal average citizens
Darn spell check! Meant cowl induction! Looks great!
Bless you folks
5:27 ...or you could just buy a quality thermostat that has a jiggle valve built into it instead of buying the $3 one
Was thinking the same thing. I got one from autozone for $9, it had a jiggle valve built right in it.
engine needs at least 34 degrees total timing for best results
Probably had a failing head gasket, this was just a RockAuto commercial
Yep. If had 24°of advance in distributor shoulda set idle timing to 12-14° for a total of 36-38°. Retarded timing also makes engine run hotter!
Meh meh meh who you calling a retard??😳
Great!.....need more shots of the whole car in between work...coooool
Is that a cool induction hood scoop from a Z28?
Love these driveway rescues! Come rescue my ‘72 Challenger Rallye!!!! Heeeellllppppp!!!!
Yes it's a late 1970's Z-28 power bulge. It looks good on the MOPAR!
@@markg7030 You should get your eyes checked, if you think that garbage "looks good".
I have a 72 Rallye Looks showroom, with 12500 miles
This guy has a pretty nice home and other cars in the driveway but I get that the PN crew liked the car because I do too LOL
It could be his parents' house and other cars.... ya never know!
Glad to see all that work done! But I'm surprised a man with that sweet of a beard needed a pit crew.

Is this a rockauto.com commercial?
Who do you think sponsored the show?
Higgins is cool
My 95 Buick Roadmaster. I know it's not a muscle car to all. But it's a project that I picked to build as s sleeper/daily. Need help
Similar problems on my Charger. Which is a 72. Come on over guys. We'll make a day of it and then go for a drive.
also 30 total is way too low for a low comp 400, should be 32-35 depending on fuel quality
You really think he’d notice an extra five hp on a tired clapped out 47 year old motor ?
@@petersouthernboy6327 5 degrees is a bit more than 5hp, so yes he would. Also retarded timing will cause the car to overheat as well...
Dash cover, really.....

Can you guys sponsor me for so new suspension upgrades on my 64 1/2 k code mustang located in Los Angeles
A plastic cover to hide the original dash. So they just put some cheap plastic on like a band aid. Needs a replacement OEM dash!
I’m sure the average guy gets thermostats and hoses from autozone and amazon for shocks and other parts
By the way nice car!
Did I hear that right a AC Delco alternator on a mopar? LOL
Parts are parts.
Man if the owner dont look like joe dirt 😁😁😁
