Crosswind Landings with the Stinson 108 -3

- Some reasonable quartering crosswinds called me to the airport for a quick flight to practice my landing technique. The Stinson 108 -3 or "Big Tail" is known to be a beast for ground handling in winds above 20 kts. With the winds still in the teens I decided it would be well within my abilities while still providing a little challenge. As I arrived at the airport two other members were coming back from practicing commercial maneuvers and approaches. They gave me an update on the current conditions. Once up I was reminded how you can't relax when flying a tailwheel aircraft, even when you are not flying the back country. As always classic aircraft, taildraggers, crosswinds, and friends make for a fun time.

Yes, get back on the horse. What I tell myself on climb out after an "exciting" landing.
Yes. I've had much more exciting landings than that.
Thanks for posting, enjoyed the video. Pete Schoeninger
Thank you for commenting. We put a lot of time into these videos, yet our experience and shoestring budget show. I'm glad a few folks enjoy our efforts.
wish you the best ur friends on facebook
do i need an stcc to put 850/6 on my 108-3
Yes. It's fairly cheap. You get it through Coopers Landing in WA
What size tire did you move up to? 800 or 850?
8.5" I have a set of aero classic 8.5X6 smooths that list as a 22" I hope to put on later this summer for a few trips where we will not be seeing any pavement.
"Honey, can you wash my jacket shell for me?".... might enhance future vids. just sayin
I did check out the next video. That thing gets dirty quick when performing winter maintenance. It's like a dirt magnet.
