    Being totally forthcoming about these machines limitations, makes Concept 2 appear dead serious and utterly professional.

    Do this on a bosu ball ( flat side up) and not only will you work on balancing but you get a bit of bounce going that you can liken to downhill skiing - taking the moguls. Keeps your mind in it!

    Great video!! I've been on the skier for a few mths and wanted to start learning how to better my time, energy expenditure, etc. The butterfly technique helps with rehabbing my shoulder when my bursitis flares up .

    I still have and use one of the first Nordic Tracks that they said everyone threw away. Still a great machine and workout. I hope my Concept 2 SkiErg will last as long.

    Re the discussion at ~11:20 about the 1600m for time on the SkiErg -- in track, they used to call the coughing after running a hard mile a "miler's hack". It happens, I suppose, because of the combination of effort required to do the event competitively and the time/distance over which that effort must be applied. I thought the exact same thing about rowing a 2K for time. Brutal, if you want to be seriously competitive.

    Would this help with swimming?

    • @DarkHorseRowing
      @DarkHorseRowing  6 років тому

      Not in the sense of duplicating the skill or the movement, but from a capacity standpoint, it would absolutely be a beneficial tool.

      If you could add the hand paddles for a Vasa swim trainer, I think it could. I'm looking at it for this scenario. It would also work the core pretty well.

    wouldn't the long strokes be good for calorie rowing/skiing ?

    • @DarkHorseRowing
      @DarkHorseRowing  6 років тому +7

      The length of the stroke is only important if you are applying effective force and acceleration in combination. The machine is tracking force, acceleration, and distance. You can't prioritize one to the detriment of the others. It's creating the perfect balance amongst them all.

    So they basically make fun of the old nordic track machines which provided a full body workout, to push a machine which doesn't work the lower body at all.

      Not sure that’s what I took away from that whole thing. My dad used to love his Nordic track so I don’t crap on it.
