Thanks, Dave. So much better than the DXO tutorial!
Regards, Bob (U.K.)
Hello, thank you for the explanation. I bought that SW one year ago (ver 5 or 4, the current is 6 Elite) There was no chance to understand how it works. You open my eye to thinking about returning again and gave me an opportunity to use it. Thanks a lot.
Excellent tutorial I am sure it will help many people get to grips with Control Points and Control Lines.
Maybe extend this topic by including the use of negative control points and lines to fine tune masks?
It's a bit of a kludge but if you extend the Control line past the image boundary then you effectively get a "filled mask" for the entire image. You can then use the selection dropper to select the tone/colour in the entire image. Can be useful sometimes.
Thanks so much for that tutorial Dave, VERY helpful. I've got to dip into PL5 here, I have it, but a toe dip did not reveal this head deep plunge for me - so THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Glad it helped!
WOW…I’ve never explored this in detail like you showed. Your video has helped very much with one of my favorite programs!
Wow! Thanks so much for this. I just bought a copy of PL5 to try because I have been so unhappy with the way LR deals with the noise and color profile of the Canon R5. This is a big step in helping fine tune using the program.
Jak zwykle jasno, prosto i klarownie wytłumaczone narzędzie. Urodzony nauczyciel z żyłką dociekliwości. W pozytywnym znaczeniu. Sam tutorial jest tak przygotowany, że uczy o wiele więcej niż samego korzystania z narzędzi. Pozdrawiam z Polski.
Un super tuto ! On en découvre tous les jours. Merci à toi Dave, tes tutos sont toujours très clairs et professionnels.
Very clear explanation. Thank you.
I recently purchased Photo Lab 5 and Film Pack. Based on your recommendations. This is a very timely tutorial. I now have some images in mind to try PL5 on.
Great to hear!
Good tutorial Dave ... It is nice to know so much about the control points and Control lines . Surely this gives added control over targeted adjustments in an image. I am right now testing the trial version 5.0 with my images and hopefully it should work out well. Thank. you very much once again for this tutorial.
thank you, Sir!
excellent, as are ALL OF YOUR VIDEO'S!!
Recently, being retired now, i am studying your Creative Toolbox.
Never did i realize how many the possibilities of Topaz Studio 2 are!!
many thanks....
Fantastic! Merry Christmas Gosse.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly and you!
Enjoyed the video! Hope you do more on DXO Photolab 5 because I'm just now starting with wildlife & landscape photography for a hobby and have decided to use this software. Thank you. Liked and subscribed!
Excellent many thanks. Concise and to the point.
Excellent tutorial with critical "basics"! Thanks much! Sub'd -
Thanks for the sub!
Hello Dave, I've been underutilizing PL5. Not so much now. Thank you,
Thanks for this tutorial Dave. I think I can now start to use give this app some love.
BTW: Where did you learn to pronounce "influence" in that way? I'm quite sure it's "IN flu ence", not "in FLU ence". What can I say, always wanted to be a grammar teacher.
Nicely done, thanks. I've been using DXO PL 5 for a few months, and I really like it. But I've only dabbled with local adjustments, mostly control points. With this tutorial, I now feel comfortable using control lines. Any plans to expand to the other tools e.g. brushes, auto masks?
Great explanation !! thank you.
Very nice Dave, I still think DxO PL5 is the best software for RAW files; )
Great video, Dave, thanks. Do you have a link to a video you've done that might address the RAW vs. TIFF aspects of using DXO. Like using a copy from Lightroom instead of RAW or just a TIFF after you've done work in Photoshop. Are the controls diminished a little bit if you are not working in RAW, like in ACR? Thanks, again.
I don’t recall having made a video like you are referring to. If you are working with a 16bit tiff file you would still be getting a ton of information and would achieve a good edit. I do feel, however, you will get better results if you start out working with a RAW File.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly thanks for your reply.
In the Windows version, I can not find new mask button, nor a new mask short cut key, the manual doesn't cover this shortcut, please advise how to start a new mask.
Les here is a comment from @Ian Seward that should help you: The new mask icon is in the main radial menu. Less mouse movement required. Press the M key to show/hide the mask. In the centre of the radial menu is a ? Mark, press it to display the help menu which explains all of the control options.
On a Windows PC none of the controls that you show at the bottom of the screen show up: "Show cropped areas, Show mask, New Mask, Reset, Close." How do I get to these controls?
I am not sure I will need to do some research to see if I can find an answer. Maybe another viewer will see this comment and know the answer. I don’t know why it wouldn’t be there.
If you send me an email address I can send you the work around for Windows users. It's a jpg that I can't post in a UA-cam reply.
@@weisskm thanks Ken. My email is edenbridgephotography@gmail.com

@@ianyorke2617 Yes, thanks - but one does feel like DxO is treating Windows users as 2nd class. I suppose there is a technical reason for the difference so I'll live with it - these masks are the main reason I upgraded since PL5 isn't a very big upgrade from PL4.
