Showing the Export from Lightroom and the return back to Lightroom is extremely helpful. I needed this tutorial in order to have confidence is using Photolab 5. Thanks Dave!
found this and its very helpful but need a lot more PhotoLab basic info to learn more. If there is a tutorial to that please point me to it. Also would appreciate not having to wait 20 min plus to find out how to export back to Lightroom either with moving forward or providing bookmarks to relevant sections. Finally, had some kind of issue exporting as DNG instead of TIF that I guess I need to work out. Thank you for the video.
I believe that the LR plugin is added if you had it installed in the previous version. And again there are some differences between the PC and Mac versions.
Very helpful tutorial, Dave, thank you. Question: do you have a tutorial in the works for customizing the DxO editing workspace, like the different palettes you show in your setup? Thank you.
Hi Dave, thanks for producing this excellent video. I'm having one issue & hope you can help me with it. When transferring my CR photos to DXO photolab 5, they get converted into TIFF files which doesn't allow me to use the Deep Prime option. Could you please help me with this issue. I have tried all sorts of ways & they've all been a failure. Thank you in advance for your time.
How are you sending your RAW files to Photo Lab 5? If you are using Lightroom you need to use Lightroom’s “Plug In Extras” to send them to Photo Lab 5.
Thanks a lor Dave, your suggestion did the trick. So appreciate your prompt reply. I have one more question regarding this program. In order for me to send a photo from LR to DXO PhotoLab 5, I need to have the program on my task bar. I can't just send a photo by asking it to process the photo in DXO if the program isn't on my task bar. Sorry my question may be a bit confusing. Thanks again for being such a wonderful resource with your excellent videos.
Hi Dave: Thanks for creating and sharing your perspectives on this application. I am been testing PureRAW2 so I have been looking at PhotoLab5 as well. Do you see this application as a supplementary tool to use with LrC or a replacement for LrC? Cheers, Keith
Hello, Master! Zdravstvuite! ))Can you tell me which profile to choose in Lightroom to open if I export from DxO in DNG format? With which of the internal LR profiles will the image be as close as possible to what I developed in DxO? I apologize if it is difficult to understand the question, since I am writing with the help of an electronic translator.
Hi, thanks for a very informative video. I am a newbie to Photolab so still getting to grips with some of the nuances. In your video when you are working in the "Customise" workspace of PL-5 I see you have both the Nik Collection and Export facilities in a bar along the bottom of the PL screen. I am not seeing that bar and cannot see where to switch it on. Please can you advise. Many thanks
This is an extremely slow process, I would need to take another vacation to process photos from a previous vacation. I just export pictures from PL in DNG, with all optical corrections, denoising, etc. And then import them in LR, which would move them to the file structure based on date, and finish them up in the LR.
Is it necessary to purchase Pure Raw if using Photolab 5? This video gives me a lot to think about because I've been researching this software and the fact that it works with LRC and the program is 50% off makes the purchasing decision easier.
I really wish PL5 could write out DNG files even if you send it a TIFF file. I don't think this is a problem in reality, but PL doesn't do this. By having to export as TIFF, you do lose the ability to change things like WB once you're back in LR (well, not necessarily, but you lose the presets that you may have had for WB, like Sunny, Cloudy, Shade, etc). If it was a DNG that is sent back, then these options are available to you. One thing I did find that is sort of annoying is that when you send a file to PL (using File -> Plug-In Extras - > SEnt to PL) it doesn't send any adjustments or even send a file with any adjustments baked in, however when you export back to LR, this is the only time you can export back as a DNG file. However, if you right-click on an image and send it to PL5 (not using the plug-in) it will send a TIFF version of the file, however you can only send a TIFF file back (you cannot send a DNG file back to LR). My suggestion would be to send the file to PL5 first, and then send it back as DNG to LR so you can still edit the file. (And send it over using the Plug-in).
Thanks for this awesome, simple tutorial! I'm a former Photoshop user but haven't been involved in photography for over a decade. Getting back into it and it's amazing the advances that have occurred in both cameras and software. I like DxO and find it fairly intuitive but I appreciated being walked through your workflow and definitely picked up a lot along the way. One thing I noticed is that you didn't mention sharpening - do you not find it necessary? Looking through some of my older images I sometimes think they look over-sharpened now, but I do remember it adding a nice little pop back then. Any thoughts? Definitely subscribing, btw!
PhotoLab sharpening and lens corrections are world class and they are built into PhotoLab. I just use the special sharpening for the camera that captured the image and PhotoLab takes care of both the Sharpening and lens correction.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly do you mean that the sharpening is being applied automatically through the standard preset, at the same time as all of the optics corrections? If so, that's amazing. This software is really top notch and I've barely scratched the surface. I love how it's tailor-made to each camera that I might use.
I am in Lightroom I go to file manager and scroll to photolab 5 I edit image. Then go to export to Lightroom It flips back to Lightroom, then get a message to say an internal error has occurred Lightroom catalogue may be corrupt. It’s is not Because all other plug-ins export to Lightroom fine. I can however got to folder and sync , then it appears and I can add it to Lightroom any help appreciated, please

I agree!

Could you please lear us how to customize the photo lab 5?
A big thank you, a nice to the point explanation Dave, makes this a worthy tutorial of 'how to do just exactly...that with constructive comments too?

DxO is the very best photography program, in my humble opinion. I love it.
This was really clear, thanks
I believe that the LR plugin is added if you had it installed in the previous version.

Is it possible to do a batch processing of several photos for then use in Lightroom? The idea is processing Fuji Raw files.
Very helpful tutorial, Dave, thank you. Question: do you have a tutorial in the works for customizing the DxO editing workspace, like the different palettes you show in your setup? Thank you.
Not yet but that is a great idea. I will have to work on that.

Serge I would try the Basic Adobe Color Profile.

If you have PhotoLab 5 Elite you won’t need Pure Raw.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Thanks. After more research I found out what you stated and purchased the Elite version.
