    4:17 I’ve been using my dad’s hand me down skil saw (this exact model you show here) for a few years. I just bought this new one with the laser guide because I wanted something lighter and prefer corded saws. Crazy to see the two saws I have side by side like that on the first random video I select haha

      Thats awesome! If you're like me this new Skil saw is great, but this older saw has a lot of sentimental value that I won't ever get rid of it.

    I've had an older Skil 12 amp that *Finally* died after 15 years of light service. So i was ready for another saw. I bought it at the time because it was the cheapest circular saw that Lowe's sold at the time. Over the years I've made many straight, consistent cuts with it. The only time it's EVER kicked back at me was when i didn't respect it. (wasn't careful about how a work piece would bind, late cut). The reason I bring up my old saw is that most people who complain about a circular saw probably don't know how to correctly use it. They are such a straightforward looking tool, and yet they can be extremely dangerous and difficult in the wrong hands. I appreciate this review, i just went out and bought one of these, mostly because i just bought a skil rip guide for the old one and i don't want to buy a new one, but also because this video helped me get over the bad reviews. Thank you!

      Yea I agree, some of the comments I read before my purchase had me scratching my head as it can't be that hard to cut straight. Also, for the price this saw is hard to beat. Glad I was able to help. Thanks for watching!

    Excellent review!! It is seldom that one comes across a video that covers almost every aspect of what you are interested in buying including the price, a demonstration of how good it functions and comparing it to an industry leader in the market. Subscribed and checked out your extensive library of videos demonstrating other products. Really appreciate your time and effort. 👍👍

    I'd like to see this compared to the 15amp Craftsman corded saw (on sale for $69). While $30 more, it has a much better footplate made of ribbed magnesium. I had a Skil Mag 77 worm drive (circa 200 model) and it's one drawback was the crap plate which bent over time. You'll notice any high end saw now has a ribbed plate. It's simply better in the long run. Even my cordless 20v Hercules has it (oddly their $99 corded doesn't which is why I'm buying the Craftsman).

      Yea I agree the magnesium construction is definitely the better option, but it usually comes at a cost. I will have to check out that Craftsman saw as I'm not familiar with that specific model.

      The Milwaukee 6390 is a solid circular saw as I have been using for years. I didnt have anything planned but will see what I can do.

    Where does the dust come out if i wanted to attach a hose for a possible vacuum?

    • @TeamDIYNow
      @TeamDIYNow  8 місяців тому +1

      This model unfortunately doesn't have a dust port attachment. With that said, it does have a small opening on the top right where you could maybe attach something, but you would have to get creative. There actually aren't very many circular saws that have a port to attach other than some of the newer Bosch 18v saws (amzn.to/49SdqWP). Hope this helps.

    Why is the SKIL 15 Amp 7-1/4 Saw louder vs the others

    • @TeamDIYNow
      @TeamDIYNow  4 місяці тому +2

      It really just depends on the saw, brushed vs brushless, amp/hp/rpm etc. In this demo the Milwaukee is a little bit more powerful than the Skil, however the motor on the Skil is probably just built differently so it produces a louder sound. I'm sure it has something to do with the cost as the Milwaukee is $140 and the Skil is $49. Both are great saws.

    To me it sounds like the skil bogs less then mil

    • @TeamDIYNow
      @TeamDIYNow  8 місяців тому +1

      I agree it does appear that you can hear a different tone when comparing the two motors. However, I'm not sure if it's truly the Milwaukee bogging down or if the Skil motor is just louder. When you are using both you won't feel anything as they both cut very well.

    In the beginning of the video you mention your dad's old saw and that the long life of that saw is reason enough to consider the same brand today. Not for me - these days, nothing is built to last like it was when your Dad's saw was new, no matter the brand. I'll bet your dad's saw was not made in China. I'll buy this saw because it's "cheap" and then it will crap out in a year or two and it'll probably end up in a land fill with a million other crapped out power tools made in China. Sad, but that's today's way versus back in the day when your dad's saw was new.

    • @TeamDIYNow
      @TeamDIYNow  Місяць тому +1

      Yea I agree, there isn't hardly any brand that makes things as they did 50 years ago as they have to be able to compete at a fair price. I was coming more from the fact that Skil invented the first circular saw many years ago and the brand is still around today. Milwaukee, Dewalt, etc all make the majority of their tools in China as well. The reality is we all want made in US tools, but only a fraction would pay the premium price in order to do so which forces these companies to produce in other countries.
