#PaulKelly
I drove into the melbourne CBD and into st Kilda road yesterday for (permitted) work. It was empty because of the Lockdown. I thought of this song. There was a sunshower, it was empty, there were police and army patrolling. And I thought just how much I love the city and then I played this song as I thought "I'd give you all of Sydney harbor all that land and all that water for that one sweet promenade" ❤️
“permitted”
Bless Melb’s heart n soul
Listening to Paul Kelly makes me realize how beautiful Australia is
Dope comemt mate
It’s a beautiful place ... I lived in st kilda :)
I came to Australia (Sydney) in 88, Paul Kelly's songs remind me of the place I came to.
Me too mate, Middle Harbour Sydney to be exact! I heard this at James’ parents house during our weeks long beggars banquet under the candelabras drinking red wine and smoking fattys! I’ve performed this song a hundred thousand times since and everyone thinks it’s about my childhood, but it’s really about my innocence lost in Australia, the beautiful memories, the years of traveling, singing and growing….the tears are flowing now….😢
One of the great Paul Kelly songs and a song that typifies a true Aussie unique sound, kind of like an Aussie Dylan. Which is a huge compliment .
Ashamed i only heard of him through underbelly through Kaseys song. Superb man, dumb things just so good i play it on loop. God Bless Larrikins.
Dylan is sort of an American Kelly.
the main difference between Paul and Bob is very few people can do justice to a Kelly song but a Dylan cover is usually better IMO than the original version
Love it! Aussie Dylan
not only does it link melbourne and sydney's sin (and backpacker) centres, it's also the most perfect sydney put down song.
The palm trees still have it hard
Man this makes me nostalgic. Done this trip. Lived in Sydney and Melbourne. Caught this bus a few times in the early 90's late 80's Paul is an Aussie treasure.
My sister and me 7- and 10-year-old on our own from St Kilda to the old oxford St Sydney stop to Qld. 1982. peace out
I never get tired of this song.I live around the corner in St Kilda where this started from.I’m stoned.😍
Love st stkilda spent most of life living there .❤️
U guys are crazy Paul Kelly is a Australian legend full stop
Our answer to Bob Dylan
Visited Melbourne from Adelaide the other day, caught the tram to St Kilda to where they filmed the Lano and Woodley TV series back in the late 90s
Saw the sunset in st Kilda yesterday. It was so great!
cool no one cares
@@iisforian4751 I did so your wrong
I agree 💯
As soon as lockdown ends
I’m gonna go to enjoy a sunset there
I wish there was more Australian music like this
Not many will leave a mark on us Aussies like Paul Kelly. Legend!
Melbourne best place to be.
Hell. I miss Australia so much at those days. ❤
When you're in withdrawal,,, Hop on the bus From St Kilda to Kings Cross is 13 hours on a bus,,, I thought it was about scoring when I was sick as,,, If my 'man' didn't have any gear In Melbourne I'd hop straight on a bus takes 5 minutes to score in The Cross,,, I'd do it
One of my fav songs.. cheers
This song always reminds me of John Kennedy's "King Street" perhaps it's because they are both about going from somewhere to where you feel you belong.
Having a beer 🍺 at the Epsey and watching a band .And having a beer 🍺 at pow
Omg love this song.... especially the port Melbourne scenes st Kilda and crazy cross

I feel cheated having not been introduced to Paul Kelly years ago...
Chris k. Head job
Funny I guess...
Time to play catch up then
You were lucky to be able to listen to him for the first time. I wish I could again.
I TRAVELLED FROM THERE TO THERE; JUST FOR THE EXERCISE; THEN IT RAINED; I COULD HEAR THE RAIN FROM MY HOTEL WINDOW; IT INSPIRED ME NOT TO EXERCISE....
Absolutely love Paul Kelly, hope he's calling NO
You obvioisly don't know what "from little things big things grow" is about then....
@mattgray871 you undoubtedly have a empty mind, not your fault. The Indoctrination You Recived, cause You just left School iff? You're under 45 You know and Understand Nothing only Bollocks and Button Pushing
Once an alternative, eclectic and a place to visit 1950s & 60s then commercial exploitation took over then finally gentrified...
I lived in St Kilda when it was the St Kilda that is portrayed in this song. Prostitutes standing on street corners, the home of artists and musicians, and misfits. I loved it then. It had a character and a vibe that is long gone. The St Kilda of today is glossy and expensive but it’s an empty shell now.
That sax

Last train out of is it gone yet?
Were saxophones compulsory on pop tracks in the eighties or what?
I feel cheated having not been introduced to Paul Kelly years ago...
Our st.kilda port Macquarie
pop?
Rather than feeling cheated, feel exhilarated. You have decades of music to discover.
❤️☝️🇦🇺🎶
xo
Paul Kelly how to make gravy
Last train out of is it gone yet?
No. But the last plane out of sydney's almost gone.
isnt it weird that this videos was copyright claimed
"FALSE PROPHETS"
fairweather friends
Were saxophones compulsory on pop tracks in the eighties or what?
'50's rock had tons of sax and horns too. Nothing was compulsory. Weird to not like a song because of saxophone.
Yes, It was legally mandated.
Great song, but I was very underwhelmed by the poor quality of the video. Is that really the best that could be found? An old VHS broadcast clip?
#this❤️🦘❤️🙏🙌
Hahaha, even Paul Kelly is not immune to that typical Victorian with the chip on their shoulder.😂😂
@@nathanredford1747 yeah I know, but he’s lived in Victoria since 1976 and the Victorian inferiority complex has rubbed off on him.

Best city in the world and I grew up in Sydney.
@@twomindz79 😂😂😂
He moved to Melbourne from Adelaide
@@twomindz79 It's not even the best city in Victoria.
Mafia man, LOL. All the good ones go through his mercurial hands ... best wishes, knucklehead.
13hrs of bum numbing bus ride.
How High is he? lol
meh..you can keep St-Kilda despite the Esplanade & it's charms... Give me Sydney Anyday!! and that's from an ex-pat Melbournian!!
Sydney has all the things you can't afford. I've grown up in it, seen the best of it and these days I'm stuck on it's fringes. I loved Melbs in the nineties, and even though that Melbourne doesn't exist anymore, the city by the Yarra still shits all over the emerald city and all it's vacuous airheaded tat. If you think Sydney is good, try and get from Strathfield to Maroubra in peak hour and come and tell me what a great place Sydney is.
I can't say if Sydney beats Melbourne or vice-versa, but I just moved to Melbourne from Perth this year, and I played that last refrain on a loop as I flew. I can't think of many stanza's that make me feel as happy as
"I'd give you all of Sydney Harbour
(all that land, all that water)
For that one sweet promenade"
Sydney is a shithole 😂
Comparing a suburb full of crims, junkies & prostitutes to probably the most beautiful harbour in the world.😂😂
You’re not from Melbourne if you say ‘Melbournian’ - any true Melburnian knows it’s ‘Melburnian’ without the O.
This song is the best
