Thanks Paul, btw... did you ever get your Taxi Licence? :-D
Bought it best thing i did been looking at buying some albums now
Love some of your new stuff ,keep em coming mate.👍👍
Hey Paul. Have always been a fan of your music and my family listen to your amazing voice all the time. Can't wait to hear your new music. Xxx
Awesome. From across the ditch
I was a taxi driver with Taxis Combined in Sydney when this was recorded, I can remember seeing the filming of this song. This became my theme song when I drove. Whenever this was played on the radio 2MMM I played it loud. The song motivated me whenever I was feeling like giving it all away. Thank you Paul.
Did you ever drive me about I wonder? "Let me out after the lights driver, keep the change. Have a good one." love a cabbie with music.
Can a song be considered a national treasure
Ahhh Australia !!!!! What a magical place it was back in the 70's and 80's...........
Yes
Yeah, started going down hill from 2000 onwards, should never have had the Olympics.
@@balung yeah before 2000 was the go !
Absolutely awesome times ! 70's should be in the dictionary under AWESOME !!!
I saw the best of this country
I miss this era of Aussie pub pop rock.
This was the very end in my books.
Oh how I miss my country back then. It's unrecognisable now. At least Paul's tunes take us back in our minds and souls. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
I remember my Dad playing this song and others like it when I was a kid.
He was not a good person. Alcohol was his vice, and it made him into a monster.
He died last year, and I listen to this song among others as a form of therapy for myself.
A part of me hurts and grieves, but life moves on.
That’s it bro.Gotta move forward.Kudos 2u!
are we the same person lol
chin up soldier- you can only improve for your own kids.
Great friend terrible master
i love u
i do
This song reminds me of Aus back in the day! The road trips, cheap living, hanging out with a beer and just laid back fun. Times have changed now! This song keeps those good 'ol days alive!
you can never get sick of his songs 🥰
Paul Kelly = Australia's Bob Dylan.
1986 was a beautiful year!
1986 was a beautiful year!
Transported back in time........The streets of Darlinghurst , Kings Cross and Centennial Park, Sydney Airport and Bondi Beach in the 80's..... Fond memories indeed ............ It looks nothing like it looked back then.... Some Great times............ One of my favorite songs from that era........ How I miss those times with sweet Christine......... 🖤🖤🖤....... Absolute Magic !!!!!
Every dog will have its day. Any dog can win ......... a life lesson there people. Always believe in yourself.
It's about a stalker.
Paul Kelly’s little brother was the general manager of John Oxley detention centre when I was an inmate as a child over 30yrs ago. They are the splitting image of each other
My job was a Yellow Cab Driver and this song takes me back to the 70s when l starting Driving. Great Singer Paul Kelly.
Paul came to Vancouver by himself and I went to see him with two Aussie sisters and a friend...around 1993? It was a small venue and he held us all in the palm of his hand. This song was the only one I was familiar with. The version he gave us that night was magical. I still love it dearly.
When we moved to the US from Oz one of the last things I did was buy a Paul Kelly CD to take with me as it is the one of the real sounds of Australia for me.
Thanks so much Mr Kelly!
Some of best Australian guitar 🎸 Lead ever played “
1986 was a beautiful year!
In case no one has mentioned this, it's Jenny Morris that sings in the background.
Haven't seen this for ages!
The red car is a Ford XE Falcon Taxi.
Never knew it was Jenny! thank you
You know it's in the 80's, having a smoke in the back of the cab. Long life the good old days of the 80's, best era EVER!
Pure, unadulterated Aussie rock. Thanks for all your brilliant work Paul, love it.
Steve Connolly's guitar was such a significant sound on so many of Paul's recordings from this time.
So good, and great tone. One of the only solo's i learnt and play for fun, along with to her door and i just play rhythm and sing
Connolly was a player in the vein of Knopfler and Gilmour. The melody is your friend. Weave around it a bit, and use great tone to sing for you. That's how you tug people's heartstrings. He was brilliant, and sadly missed.
This dog is having its day 🐕🐶
Love song Love the video
Sydney in the 80s ,great times
Good stuff mate. Got your record.🥰🇦🇺
saw PK & Coloured Girls ... Perth 87 ... loved them then and just found them again ... ah the memories ... total class
Gossip was a great album. Paul Kelly was one reason I left Brisvegas for Melbourne , all those years ago
I'm new to Paul Kelly but this has to be the best Australian song.
I didn;t realise that was shot in Sydney until I saw the shot heading into Kings Cross at the end. I'm on the road in Sydney pretty much every day, and I didn't recognize any of that, it's all changed so much.
Here's one for ya. I first saw Paul Kelly at the Royal Antler in 1983, a little while after Manila came out, and I'd purchased it. I was the only bloke in the pub who'd come to watch Paul Kelly. They were playing pool right in front of the stage and ignoring him.
Paul Kelly = Australia's Bob Dylan.
+renaissance guerrilla so true
I don't think he's really anywhere's anybody. He's Paul Kelly.
^ hes a great singer/songwriter in his own right.
I love them both can't really compare them! both brilliant!!
Yes. I saw him here in Massachusetts's years back. Another good one, from little things big things grow. How to make Gravy. The troubadour of down under. Greetings from the US!!
This came out not long after I arrived here, and to me it (and a lot of other music at the time) summed up Australia.
What a great place it was back in the mid 80s. I couldn’t believe my luck. Songs like this take me straight back to those days….
What’s it called when you have nostalgia for a time you never lived in?
What a brilliantly made video clip. It tells a day in the lif story and Pauls's acting is subtle. and then there's the magic song.
The taxi that pulls over before its even being hailed. Classic!
Amazing song... My very first concert was Paul Kelly opening up for The Smithereens at a hall on the Notre Dame campus.... I wish I could go back and see it again. This song has a place on my Top 20 of all time...
xe falcon!

1986 was a beautiful year!
A gorgeous tune. This was my 1st intro 2 his music. It was also the reason why I've stayed faithful 2 his music. Now, whenever I hear it, I have this natural impulse 2 cry... why? It is the perfect match between music & lyrics than either of those elements on their own. Like fellow 80s veteran Neil Finn (another enduring favorite), Paul Kelly is a born storyteller . He knows just how 2 paint a soundscape that beautifully depicts love, loss, & longing against a uniquely Australian sky.
I love this song...and I love the music video. It makes me feel nostalgic when I recognise parts of Sydney, and the ol’ Taxis Combined taxis with their (original) phone number! 😎😻
The passing of Michael Gudinsky today bought me here 🌹 a great loss to the Australian music industry 🇦🇺 with songs and Aussie bands like this .......he will be missed by all Aussies , bands and artists 🇦🇺
WHAT A FANTASTIC SONG.WRITTEN BY A FANTASTIC SINGER,SONGWRITER.PAUL KELLY,A NATIONAL TREASURE.
Before two bongs.
Paul Kelly = Australia's Bob Dylan.
Great song, and the film clip is a great 1986 time capsule. No doubt the passengers came from Paul’s own taxi-driving experiences.
I love the back vocal.
I absolutely love this song, it reminds me of being a teenager in Sydney in the late 80's. Great times. . .
What a great song! And he's a great man.
makes you wanna cry how things have changed for the worse. we will never ever get that back.
hello, how are you doing? it is nice meeting you here.
1986 was a beautiful year!
I made my first holy communion that year...
@@rahawa774 aww
I was born in 1986. I shouldn’t have been born, it was a mistake.
@@roshnimr6079 Mate, that's harsh.
I was 9 when this came out and l mainly remember seeing the film Malcom that year. The memories that the film and this music vid brings back. My late dad use to be a pump fitter who traveled all over Melbourne to service pumps and he would take me on a lot of call outs and would remember a lot of landmarks that are in these two films. Also another great film called The Big Steal (1989)
My all time favourite Paul Kelly song.
Mine too but love to her door as well!
Haven't seen this for ages!
The red car is a Ford XE Falcon Taxi.
And 7 digit phone numbers in Sydney !
Yes. We never had red taxis here in Melbourne in the 80s, most of them were white because they were purchased 2nd hand and white was easy to keep clean and fix (no mis-matched colours). Sydney always liked red for some reason.
@@Davez621 red attracts
I had the year before. My father painted it fire truck red. The xd falcon my first car with a fair lane badge ...
WE LOVE HIM ..DOWN .. UNDER
Where did we go wrong Oz, where the bloody hell did we go wrong....what a simpler fantastic time.
Gotta love an XE Falcon!
always unforgettable, classic 8's aussie anthem
thanks paul and co!!! xx
1st thx Paul Kelly ,, for lyrics , song , vocals , post , music ,
Before too long
The one that you're loving
Will wish that he'd never met you
Before too long
He who is nothing
Will suddenly come into view
So let the time keep rolling on
It's on my side
Lonely nights will soon be gone
High is the tide
Before too long
We'll be together
And no-one will tear us apart
Before too long
The words will be spoken
I know all the action by heart
As the night time follows day
I'm closing in
Every dog will have his day
Any dog can win
Shut the shade do no fear anymore
Here I come creeping round your back door
Before too long
I'll be repeating
What's happened before in my mind
Before too long
Over and over
Just like a hammer inside
As the nighttime follows day
I'm closing in
Every dog will have his day
Any dog can win
Before too long
Before too long
underrated comment
paul kelly is goto one of the best aussie musicians "world wide" around and im 29 and i grew up to him and his songs are just fantastic =D
Omg look at that cool old Ford Falcon
What a gorgeous XE Falcon. not many on the roads these days.
I agree but I was a Commodore man myself. Mum had one of those Cortinas that looked a bit like the xe though. My Dad was a Datsun man!
Paul Kelly with the coloured girls was his absolute golden era
Ahhh, the 80s. What a great time to be alive. Still think it was the best decade for music. Great songs like this just take me back.
Ah the Coloured Girls era...fond memories..Jon Schofield on bass..Gossip :)
Every dog will have his day.. any dog can win... thats the words of wisdom i live my life by
THAT Sunny Aussie 80s sound !
First heard this on Radio Australia this morning, and have had the video on repeat since finding it on YT. Love it, love, it, love it. The RA announcer said Mr K is 57 today. Happy birthday, Paul.
What an absolute legend vb in the background.
it was filmed around syndney in 86' depicting a typical day of a sydn ey taxi driver......ive heard kelly talk about it on jono colemans radio program
I love how it's a no smoking taxi but everyone does anyway :p

Great Song, Great Clip, Great Concept and Great Album. The Gossip Album was the best out of Australia in 1986 so I reckon anyway.
Sydney lookin gorgeous here
Before two bongs.
hello, how are you doing ??it is nice meeting you here.
I sometimes undervalue this song due to overfamiliarity. But while actually listening it's hard to hear it as anything less than a perfect pop song. The first line seems harsh, misanthropic, but it ends up being maybe the most optimistic unrequited love song in the history of the world.
Meanwhile the arrangement seems effortlessly, joyously 'correct' in every way without ever seeming hackneyed. The gtr solos, the middle 8, the girl vocal; everything's in exactly the right place. Masterful.

"here I come, creeping 'round your back door". It was a different time then. Now you'd be shot.
Love your songs Mr Kelly, and brilliant musicianship from the coloured girls!
The 80's is where I have so many fond memories from first love to first heartbreak and i had the best music music to carry me through it all, and what better country to do it all in other than Australia. We had the best music that is still played everywhere today.
I had one of those falcons. It was a heavy tank. It could barely hit 100ks an hour but it was a car
legend❤💘And may I add has got better looking as he gets older
xe falcon!
Great taxi driver, he signals to pull over before she has even hailed him.
Woah.....amazing to see Sydney from a time when it wasn't ruined from over development.
I love that song now more than I did when first came out!! 😊
Absolutely Brilliant and Profound Music of Magician in all Ways of Music ...

A great song and a great video clip. It's rare to see those two things at once.
And he achieved more greatness than any of those nobody passengers.
Smacks of Neal Finn and the Enz!! And that's a GOOD thing.....!!

He's a genius singer and song writer, love him!
Imagine getting Paul Kelly as your driver 😂

Great song
Better than the incredible, 'Friday On My Mind,' Paul Kelly's suburban ditty is as fresh and relevant as ever! Greatest Aussie song of all time.
kswannie ahhh I don’t know about that this is a great song! But Friday on my mind is an all time hit and besides they are different themes to both of the songs
