Most of us Melbourne kids who grew up in the 70’s & 80’s had no idea how good we had it. Turns out the Melb. Pub scene back then was legendary. Funny that I always thought they sounded like they had a lobotomy for this song. On youtube I wondered what it might sound like at ).25 faster than the normal speed....hmmm... not bad. Tried playing it at 50% faster than the original speed....... hey that's not bad either and the song finishes sooner.
As a young Kiwi living in Brisbane between 1980 / 84 Aussie music was the best in the world. I still have all my vinals in my bar room and I really miss the sound of Aussie music in the early 80's. This song was a hit from the very first time I heard it. Musically it was the best time in my life. Aussie and Kiwi bands rocked my world. Do not forget Goanna or the Reels.
Great taste brother. Let's not forget the Kiwis too, mi sex, split enz, Jenny Morris, Dave dobbin, The swingers( counting the beat) etc. Brilliant time to live. Great taste bro
@user name Its not like music has stopped just have to pull your head out and look for it. Triple j unearthed is a good stepping stone. just times were different then. People wrote music about current events and common issues because people were more informed in a less connected world then than they are now.
The 70s and 80s rocked. Nothing will ever be as good again. Remember having the double cassette and as soon as your fav song came on the radio you pushed record then rewinded and replayed over and over again. Time of our lives💖
The 80's was the best time to grow up! Soooo good! Time goes very fast! Go to school, eat, sleep, surf, ping-pong, girls... no work, besides fixing my surfboards. My high school time!!! love it!

I've only been in Australia 4 yrs but luckily my wife has introduced me to so many Ozzie bands. Saw James Rayne at The Red Hot Summer Tour last weekend and he did an incredible version !!!!
Hope you enjoy this wonderful country and it's wonderful music, I'm from New Zealand have been here 34 years and still love this country as much as I did the day I first arrived
true, we had our own great bands like DD Smash , but we never had to look much further than over the ditch for most of our favourite bands; for a while, Dragon and Chisel, Crawl, Icehouse, INXS ruled the pub dancefloors.
I was in my first full time job that year. Hated it, and also went through a bad break up, so it's one of my least favourite years. But the music helped to make it bearable!
I'm from Perth, but I was in Sydney for 2 years. This song among others from Australian crawl reminds me of those great times. I was a driver for girls on the game in the cross. Fantastic times as a 30 year old bloke.

IIRC the Reyne brothers went to Peninsula High School in Mount Eliza, on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia (and most, if not all, of the other guys from Aussie Crawl did too...) I was in Grade 6 when this was released, growing up in country Victoria. Eat, sleep, go to school, ride your BMX with your mates, listen to cool music, play computer games. Things were so much simpler then. This song was part of the soundtrack of our lives back then. Still sounds mint in 2021. Ahh, the 1980's; great times, great music. Brilliant, best band I have seen live. I have seen The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and other big bands over my lifetime, but AC was so tight I can't tell you, that was back in 1982. Love the references in this song to things that are special to Aussies, like Circular Quay, Burke & Wills and Scott of the Antarctic. Beautiful and the musicianship is stellar
My first time hearing them was today. I would have loved them in the 80's just as I do now. I agree, very under-rated. Could have made top 10 list in US easily in the 80's.

If you want to read stories about 80s Aussie nostalgia, I would recommend you check out the Australian mystery writer, Duane Ratswander's novels, available from Amazon www.amazon.com.au/Hobbyards-Duane-Ratswander-ebook/dp/B077VHZW2G/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=hobbyards&qid=1587905715&sr=8-1 www.amazon.com.au/Ministry-Adrian-Duane-Ratswander-ebook/dp/B07P1HDWCT/ref=sr_1_1?qid=1587905777&refinements=p_27%3ADuane++Ratswander&s=digital-text&sr=1-1&text=Duane++Ratswander
I don't understand why people blame the US for any failings here (in Oz). If something has gone wrong here (particularly if it's the standard of music etc.), it is our own fault. People saying it's the fault of the US that we don't have 80s-style Oz rock anymore seems crazy to me (especially since the US gave the world rock in the first place).
There was so much great music released in Australia in the '80s. We were spoilt and never realised it.😮
Agreed. We never really appreciated it.
The 80's in Australia were an absolute fantastic time to live.

It wasn't until I lived in Sydney that I truly got the lyrics ... the song is however for Everyman ...
As the manly ferry cuts its way to circular quay memories of a great youth in a great country
Meet me down by the jetty landing
Where the pontoons bump and spray
I see the others reading, standing
As the Manly Ferry cuts its way to Circular Quay
Hear the captain blow his whistle
So long she's been away
I miss our early morning wrestle
Not a very happy way to start the day
She don't like that kind of behaviour [2x]
So, throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Don't be so
Feel like Scott of the Antarctic
Base camp too far away
A Russian sub beneath the Arctic
Burke and Wills and camels initials in the tree
She don't like that kind of behaviour [2x]
So, throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
She don't like that kind of behaviour [2x]
So, throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Don't be so... reckless
Don't be so...

Awesome!
AMOOOOO, Saudades deste tempo...que não volta mais...tempo da inocência
This is the Australia we need to stand up and fight to regain
Still gives me chills🏁🤗
Met James a couple of years ago, had coffee with him as fan that was amazing !!!
when Australia sang about it's own unique experiences...genuine, innocent, loving, remote. Now we seem to be a 51st state bad copy.
Whatever CJ.
Yeah this is some good old Aussie stuff.
Shut up about the "awful US".
You virtue-signalling toss
If it wasn't for America we would all be speaking Japanese... England can go to hell! I love America. Proud to apart
Fond memories for me, but I still recognise that Australia actually has produced great music that speaks to our experience since then, and continues to do so to this day.
People saying it's the fault of the US that we don't have 80s-style Oz rock anymore seems crazy to me (especially since the US gave the world rock in the first place).
brings back so many memories back when I was a kid and in love with my school sweetheart. you know who you are Alison zagari
I loved you too, Zeljko Barisic, that's why I changed my sex to a man, so I could be with you in bromosexual harmony. WHERE ARE YOU NOW, MY LOVE?!
Hugely underrated. World class...simple ! 😎👍
As antigas são as melhores!!😍😍
Great song listen to the words. I was young and high and now I am old and high and still it stands the test of time.
I live in Brazil and this song I listened to at parties in the 80's, it brought me many good memories
