    I made a 4’x4’ mft top for mine and also use it as an assembly table using mft clamps. The height adjustment is great for this. I also use a 1” 4x8 sheet of styrofoam under sheet goods to help support and save the sacrificial wood strips.

    Ben I really enjoy your videos, really glad you are getting time to make them again. I am really enjoying the greensuiters podcast as well and am finding myself looking forward to it week to week. I found this video helpful for impressions based on use, while you shop is small, you have space for a more stationary solution. That you find value in this stand from the mobility is helpful to see, appreciate the honest opinions and observations. I had kind of dismissed the stm for myself but am rethinking it, fair to say if festool sells me on they may have you to thank.

      Thanks, Adam! The podcast is a lot of fun, all of us look forward to recording each week. The STM is certainly appreciated in my shop and I'm just happy I was able to finally get my hands on one given how hard they are to come by. Hope you're able to find one as well! Take care and I'm grateful for the kind comment.

    Great information. My shop is small and I do all my sheet cuts in the garage and then move the smaller pieces onto my MFT.

      Thanks! Yep! MFT and STM are a great combo in small spaces

    Great review. I use my STM all of the time and agree with all of your pros and cons. This is a great part of the Festool system.

      Thanks! I've really been happy with it. I appreciate when a company puts some considerable thought behind the design.

      @@BenMarshallDesigns I've gone Festool crazy for that very reason. The tools/tables/etc all work together so well it's hard for me to consider anything else.

    I wish that The STM 1800 with a sheet of ply on it would level up with the SawStop table saw, PCS after all Festool Purchased SawStop and neither the STM or the MFT line up with the PCS or ICS SawStop . I really like the compact size when folded up of the STM 1800 and I have used it as an assembly table and to unload plywood sheets from my truck. and lower then to stand against the wall. Also it makes ripping sheet goods down to size so easy with a track saw.

    • @BenMarshallDesigns
      @BenMarshallDesigns  2 роки тому

      Yep! It shines as a ripping work surface. To get the STM at the same height as your SawStop, there are a few options you could look at to achieve the same height. You could punch new holes with a steel cutting bit in the legs for the drop pins or you could cut some stock wood for the braces at the appropriate height. Based on my quick google search, the PCS top is around 836mm, well within the 900mm the STM can get up to.

    When I’m cutting thin plywood with mine I throw some 2” pink foam on it. Gives more support and I can still keep the 900mm height. Just drop it down a step

      Good tip! I have some old paneling I use for additional support/sacrificial surface now

    At 69, I am not thrilled about throwing 4x8 sheets of anything thicker than 1/8" around. I bought it primarily for the tilting function. I do not cut with out using the one or two of the my self made MFT style tops, 48x64, that were on my previous fixed table. Onsite I've used it to cut wood, plastics and glass. The small storage footprint is also a plus.

      The tilting function is great! Although I'm not quite as seasoned as you, my back still isn't in the best condition, so I'm thankful that feature is available when I need it. Shame that these are a limited make for Festool.

    Consider it one of the best $1,000 investments, tool-wise, we've ever made. Tucks away inside our trailer or truck (or, like you, our Prius wagon, too!) like it's not even there, and it opens up into the biggest tool/work organizing table on our jobsites. We can roll out full sets of plans AND use it as a work table at the same time. It makes us incredibly efficient, organization-wise. Love it

    Did you show the tilting function? Can’t recall. That’s my favorite feature since I don’t have enough upper body strength to lift a full sheet by myself.

      Yes!! I agree with you, Jay. That's my favorite use, too. Though I'm a 74 year old, with it, I can move full sheets of plywood -- and even laminated particle board, around the shop with surprising ease.

    The STM 1800 is now $1199 and it's only two years later. It was $995 when this video was made. Crazy.

    Hello Ben many thx for your review. Do you believe this table is stable enough to serve as an assembly table. I have the feeling all the connections to make it foldable make it also a bit shaky. Thanks for your insights and keep on the good work. Thierry

    • @BenMarshallDesigns
      @BenMarshallDesigns  2 роки тому

      Hey Thierry. I suppose that depends on what you’re assembling. The framing is sturdy, however it still sits on wheels, so the solid piece will move on the casters. If you put a solid piece on it and attach it somehow, it would be a good assembly table.

    • @thierryhanot7610
      @thierryhanot7610 2 роки тому +1

      Thx Ben for your quick reply. I plan to assemble furniture on it but nothing exceptionally heavy. I understand the wheels make it prompt to slide on the floor but my question is more about the rigidity of the frame. Kr thierry

    Very informative. I didn’t realize how small it gets when compacted. Did I miss you say how much it weighed? Can’t be too heavy, right?

    • @BenMarshallDesigns
      @BenMarshallDesigns  2 роки тому +1

      It’s 74lbs. The frame is made from steel tubing, so it’s got a little bit of heft to it, but can be lifted when solo

    Appreciate this video thanks; With that said does festool ever think to themselves, maybe this price doesn't make sense for this particular product? Christ 900+ dollars for a table without a top......

    • @BenMarshallDesigns
      @BenMarshallDesigns  Рік тому

      I doubt they are making a lot of money on these, given that they were made in limited quantity. It's a table yes, but one that can hold a lot of weight and compacts incredibly small. For the amount of versatility the STM provides, I'd say it's worth it's weight
