  • Digging through the file-vault, I found some great technical videos from a previous video shoot... I look like a KID!! The info is still excellent, and I still use these techniques today so I'm proud to pass them on to you! Hope you enjoy while we prepare some more episodes on the ZX, Garbage Camaro, and the VGG SS Clone!

      You are so right. Yesterday I ended up in an office building I used to work in. I walked past so many memories, including the room I had my interview in. I thought the same thing you did, I wanted to meet my younger self and tell him the journey he was about to start on was fantastic.

      I would imagine there’s not a one of us that would tell our younger self very similar things LOL I’ve been watching your content for decades between paintucation, Eastwood vids, LMC truck vids and whatever else I stumbled upon and you’ve definitely grown over the years but yet still the same, if that makes sense. Been a fan of yours for a long time, sir. Thanks for all your knowledge share over the years 👍🏻

Unfortunately, I am now 74 and don't need to be DIY independent, but I sure could have used your advice forty years ago! I wish I had seen this video back when I replaced the headliner in my 1979 Buick Park Avenue! I used fabric that I purchased at a local fabric store, and removing the old foam/adhesive was a bear! Also, getting the old headliner out and back into the car was a challenge! It turned out o.k., but it pretty much convinced me that this was not a job that I wanted to repeat!

    My family owned Dr Vinyl and Cam Sew and we did interiors, boat covers, cars, etc. I have a professional kit for seats and gallons of dye but I have actually had to use that kit before and the only thing I will Add is use a heat gun then press and cool with an aluminum curved cooling block because it truly sets a nicer grain and you fast set it. Then after you dye the repair or seat make damn sure you use a good leather conditioner, not things that just make it shiny, because a perfect leather seat doesn't shine, if you use conditioner on your leather, you will be blown away how awesome they feel and look. Any time you use crap to shine your upholstery, you are ruining it, just clean and condition and you will have seats that are in a Chevy that look and feel like a luxury car.

    When I do a headliner before I install the fabric I coat the board with 2-3 coats of polyurethane. It makes for a non-porous surface and the glue and fabric hold better..

    10ish years ago, the headliner in my older son's car sagged. Never having done it before, there was a little trepidation. But, as you said, it really was quite easy and much nicer. We were lucky, it's a T-Top car, so a smaller area to work with. Same story with interior dying, easy but quite rewarding. Thanks for the tips and memories. ~ Chuck

    Jane a 91 toyota with original paint. When i bought it, it was heavily oxidized. I cut, polished and waxed it by hand because i fear the single stage paint wouldn't hold up to power tools. It definitely improved, but still has bird poop etchings and other unknown etches. What would you do for this, or what product would you recommend. I really don't want to paint it Bensimon it still has a deep luster when it's all waxed up, but at 5 ft you start seeing the etched areas. Love the channel and also want to thank you for helping me create memories with my father back in the day. We watched every weekend!

    I re did the headliner in my 77 impala 4 door and that material they used to glue that headliner down was a pain in the neck to get off the board, I used an angle grinder with the wire wheel with light force it was able to eat that glue off the board otherwise I would have been there all day with the wire brush and I used liquid contact cement and a foam roller to glue it down

    I have 2 cars with peeling clear coat but the underlying paint (old 1990 GM urethane) is still in good shape. What is the best quick and easy way to get a decent gloss finish without having to repaint the whole vehicle? Spraying clear on it is not a problem but looking more for how to prep so it lasts. Not looking for a show car, just something I'm not embarrassed to drive. I think there should be a lot of people out here with a similar issue.
    I just can't justify putting a $3500 paint job on a $2000 car that I take to cruise-ins.

    I wanted to add most content out here on the tube seems to be misleading for the DIY I'm a collison Tech 30 years going It was the trade I took in school and been to many I-car classes and certified PPG tech. I hope you give your teaching to the guy or gal at home because most are doing their own project always being an over all paint job to begin with they get information on here mostly from production techs like myself and for me it seems there misleading in most cases because painting a whole car takes a big compressor to start and then do I use this product or do i do this job this way I find it almost misinforming to what we really do on a daily basis...This is my opinion I;m not hating just saying facts your not gonna paint a whole car with a 20 gallon compressor or with 90% of the spray guns on the market.---I want to see this trade that's given me so much in life where people get motivated because it's not doing very good I can tell by the over turn we have---I hope you speak your talent as a Tech and teacher the correct way because there's nothing cheap about what this skill and the cost of materials are in the trade today. Sorry for the long comment but I think it was worth it.---Lets make Body---paint great again thanks.

    • @paintucation
      @paintucation  3 дні тому +2

      I can't agree more!! My formal training programs do exactly what you say, give a realistic idea of what the materials that we need are, and how to properly use them, including a huge emphasis on PPE and safety. UA-cam, however, is not showing the full extent of my training programs. Those take me a very long time to create, and they're very expensive to produce. The UA-cam channel is away for me to give tips and techniques a way to people wanting to learn, peppered in with a little bit of entertainment and me quite honestly having fun while I'm doing it. If I had unlimited funds and was wealthy beyond means, I would do formal training on UA-cam and give it all away. That's not the case, so my UA-cam show is a way to showcase the potential of this amazing trade, and have a glimpse in the door of what I offer in the way of my structured training. Thanks for watching! Hope this answers your questions and satisfies your concern.
