- How To Install Pontiac Water Pump and How To Install Pontiac Timing Chain Cover Part 2
Good Firebird Friday to ya. Today we are installing the Pontiac Timing Chain cover, installing the flow tubes, and installing the water pump in our 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 that has at the moment while I rebuild the 400 a 1977 Pontiac 350 engine. Darn near all Pontiac engines from 1970 until 1981 will be just like this job. Follow along and enjoy!

Unbelievable man, unbelievable
Run a flowkooler pump, your poncho will love you
Thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
How about cleaning the bolt threads in the block and the bolts 😮
I did, just didnt get that on film... damn it! thanks for watching!
man the Pontiac covers are a pain.. good vid man
They are one big pain in the ass lol
Nice job brother you are the man
Great video! It’s like you’re training me on all the upcoming LeMans projects I’ve got to do (I’m sure the water pump won’t work well after 23 years 😅)
Nice!
Thank you sir, it’s been a crazy job changing the water pump.
Love the video. When it comes to pitting in the front cover, I've had great luck using a two-part epoxy. Apply it to the pitted area, and grind it flat.
I couldn't tell from the angle of the camera, but make sure you have some support underneath and centered around the front crank seal. I've broken a front cover without support centered underneath.
Loctite stick, very interesting find.
Crazy stuff, but it works! LOL
@@ArrowheadGarage I saved to my Amazon list for the future, cause you never know when you might need something like that.
Did you forget to put a thin film of oil on the crankshaftseal. That is so it doesn't run dry and leak.
A light coat of oil on the shaft before installing the cover... just didn't show it. Thanks for reminding us to do that step as well. Thank you!
You might want to install the harmonic balancer on the crank to complete the seal before you flush with water, a lot of it looks like it went in the crank hole into the oil.
Nice step by step series, always fun to watch pontiac videos 👍
If you change the oil before firing it up, no harm
please can help me, engine 4.4l l8 268 pontiac 1951, the 4 holes are frost plugs??? I have pressing water here.......
Hey Brian, question. When you installed the harmonic balancer, we’re you able to torque the nut down to the 160 ft pounds without the crankshaft turning? Any special tricks if needed to make that portion happen? Thanks!
Yes, after using the failed crank tool I put a vice grip on the flex plate and torqued the old girl down to 160!
That cooling system was a hot mess.
Well as you saw what the oil looked like last year... I wasn't expecting rainbows lol that water was gross!!!!
@@ArrowheadGarage good point, that engine is full of surprises
Great video. Are you going to remove the broken bolt? And do you need to replace the steel tubes that were in the timing chain cover?
Thank you sir, no I left it be for now… and yes bought new tubes and a divider plate… should run nice and cool 😎
Drunk work.
Hey,Brian. first thank you for your good content, it’s really meaningful and intriguing. And I would like to ask if you ever received emails from us. Those emails all are about product reviews invitation. Unfortunately never got a response from you, I saw you are also looking for products to do content, so I thought you probably would be interested in my offer, just the emails got stuck in your Spam folder. Anyway I hope you could give me an opportunity to demonstrate on details
Yo peeps and dudettes lets use aluminum for guide pins. Prior planning prevents Piss poor performance. Yo no you cant play with nobodys yo yo.
The plate between the pump and timing cover is crucial you did not put it in so that motor will not cool proper. Poor car
Not drilling out that bolt is insane. That will absolutely leak. I hope that wasn't a customer's car and they paid you.
So far so good... lol this engine is only going to be in the 67 Bird until the 400 is built. Good eye!
That sounds like a good plan. I did the timing chain in my 79 Trans Am 301 a while back and I snapped the same bolt. Luckily, it wasn't flush with the block. I was able to soak it with pb blaster for a couple of days and apply some heat. Then I grabbed the stud with vice grips and worked it out. I felt your pain when the bolt snapped. @@ArrowheadGarage
My 15 year old can do better
You are so not a verry good mechanic
