I was 22 years old when we are filming Platoon in the Philippines. I didn't realize at that time that the cast we worked with will become famous artists in the years to come. We were all young that time and it was one of my best experiences working behind the scenes............Maybe that's why I'm still doing it.
Thats awesome Films. Great movie, great actors. I was an extra in the Two Towers (lord of the rings) and sometimes sat down for lunch (at 2am) with Orlando Bloom among others. They were unknown back then. Cheers
He acted as a mean ass man with no conscience. Anyone got in his way, he up in their faces, screaming @ them. But I guess, those characters were like that in the true war scenes. Not giving a shit what happens. Yes, he really played the role. But he shot up Elias & left him to die, but he came back from the area he was shot @ just to make it to the platoon. The ending of him was sad.
Barns and Elias were the most interesting characters, but all of the actors who were involved in this masterpiece were great, (and Samuel Barber deserves a special thanks for his contribution as well).
Willem dafoe, was awesome in this movie and everything else he did since. Platoon was a great movie, showing the horrors of the vietnam war but for me the best movie is Apocolypse Now
Sergeant Elias is my favourite character in the movie. He knew that it was useless shit what they were doing. He managed to conserve a little bit of humanity and civil courage during their chaotic mission. The scene of his death at the end of the film is legendary in history of cinema.

Platoon is a very dear movie to me because my brother served in Vietnam and it was my very first war movie. My brother passed away 9 years prior in 1977 and he was one of the first Vietnam Veterans to perish because of chemicals in the weapons of the war and my sister in law was able to prove it to the VA and they took care of my sister in law and four nieces with compensation for his sacrifice up and still going strong.
I watched it at the cinema when I was 18, it was one of those movies that stay's with you forever...Favourite character? they all were exceptional actors in this movie!
I enlisted in 1985, September. When Platoon came out, I was stationed with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. In 1987 I went TDY to Honduras and still hadn't seen it. In 1988 I was stationed in S. Korea and finally saw it. Vietnam was still a fresh memory in the army, ten + years after it had ended. It hit a bit too close to home for most of us as many of our senior ranks had been there. We all took it very seriously, almost like a training video.
This movie moved me so when it came out. I was the age of a lot of the younger actors (age 22) when it came out. I believe both Willem Dafoe and Tom Berenger got Academy Award nominations for their roles and it got Best Picture in 1986. Kudos to Oliver Stone, of course, who wrote and directed it and who received the Oscar for Best Director. It was based on his own experiences in Vietnam.
I served in Vietnam in 1968/69 as an infantry solider MOS 11B. I was stationed 24/7 in the bush or jungle bouncing from one hilltop to another searching for Ho Chi Minn trails and NVA. Movie was dead nuts as to what us infantry grunts experienced.
I think they were all great actors and played their characters to the full. Don't forget the man who wrote and directed the film he's also the most important character. Without him the film would never have existed. Thanks for the video.
The battle-scarred face of Sergeant Barnes, and the acting of Tom berenger was my personal favorite. However there are too many to choose from, as it is certainly an All-Star performance for everyone.
"Platoon" can not be a cameo study. It is an organism in every sense of the word. It is a Synergistic Expression of being on the eve of destruction. The total of Its presentation is greater than the sum of its parts, including the actors. It is a work of fierce beauty as a masterpiece presentation for any Boomer that has humped the bush of Southeast Asia's Triple Canopy & knowing my special friends the leaches! This is a masterpiece of artistic proportion that should haunt my Generations' Souls.
I'll second that !! He plays the character "Saw Guerra" from star wars Rouge One and Andor so awesome !! Couldn't imagine anyone else playing the part !!
I find it hard to pick a favorite because each character made the “Platoon” a Platoon. I think what sticks out to me is Charlie Sheen, his character represented the young men who were sent there without the street smarts, just out of high school and naive to what they were being sent into. All the people I knew who served in that war aged at least 10 years in years time. I was 14 when the war ended. The entire time it was going on I lived outside Ft. Dix. Every time we would drive onto the post, there was this huge scoreboard on Generals circle that had the number of US soldiers and enemy soldiers KIA. Even after my own military career, the memory of that scoreboard and what those numbers represented still bothers me.
A friend of mine met him in Miami when he was filming the substitute. He said he was the most humble, cool guy. No ego at all, just a regular cool guy. Said he was funny too.
if you like war films , check out "battle for haditha". raw, aggressive, no political undertones, and stars real military personel. or view "danger close", masterpiece.🍻
One of my fav movies ever! them closing scenes of Willem Dafoe left to die was very very upsetting to me bringing home the heartache of War ! living nowadays in a close by country I still see the remains of the old US machines especially the Willys Jeep 🙏
Defoe played my favorite character, Elias. I was a grunt in Nam. It's a fine movie. Brought back too many memories. Many good, some bad and a few that caused me to need to be held by my wife. She died 2 years ago. I won't watch the movie again. I'm afraid it would mean the end for me.
King is my favorite character. I met several guys exactly like him while serving in the 25th Infantry Division in the late 1970's. He's a great composite character for the big black guy who is a rock-solid Infantry soldier making insightful no-nonsense philosophical observations, and doing it in a way that is funny as hell. In a field Infantry unit, you grow to love guys like that.
the movie itself was awesome , my recruiter sergeant Lopez took me to see it and I enlisted in the Marine Corps shortly after . Became a forward observer (FO) who calls for the fire missions to Artillery .
Tom Berenger "NAILED IT"! I served from 1973 to 1998 and the vast majority of NCO's were carbon copies of his character. We deployed frequently and the biggest priority was to meet mission and bring as many of our troops back in one piece.
This movie is still echoing and even thundering in my mind.I felt the fear the fetigue the anger the rush and thrill as if I was one of the soldiers I loved all charecters.I loved chris I love Barns I love Elias. Everything was real tangible their face their sweat their despair.I did not feel like a movie it was punchy and unignorable !that is no doubt the best war movie ther is ! Platoon forever
Brilliant but devastating film. It stays with you after watching it, which mean’s Oliver Stone did a brilliant job conveying what the grunts went through.
I served as a young US Army Soldier from 1977-1980. My favorite character in platoon? Its when Taylor arrives in-country and as he walks off the tarmac, a group of Combat Veterans are walking by out-of-country. The Veteran with the 1000yd stare and hands in his pockets was my favorite character.
Tom Berenger was the heart of "Platoon." Keith David "killed it." McGinley played an extraordinary performance of his character. All of them were great!
A masterpiece of war movies. The scene in which Sergeant Elias dies after being left behind, and the climactic scene in which the Vietnamese army attacks the US military position using human wave tactics are spectacular.
My favorite character was played by Willim Defoe, very powerful acter, the scene when he realizes that the other Sgt was there to kill, no words, amazing! Oliver Stone was an outstanding director. I've watched this film so many times, but every time I pick up on new things! Thank you for doing this presentation!!

As a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, I'm here to tell you that this is the best depiction of infantry-level field operations I've seen. Oliver Stone tells the story like it really was.
Willem Dafoe....I adore him. My ex works in the film industry, & we drove down to southern Spain to work on one of his films. He's a lovely man, but every time he smiled & went to say something, I'd clam up & look at my feet. He realised, & was incredibly sweet about it, but I still clammed up whenever he was around. Twenty years later, I'd be just the same!
Why do the people who make these videos always put a bogas photo on the cover?Wiliam Dafoe is alive and well.
It's unfortunate when misleading photos are used, but William Dafoe's fans are relieved to know he's alive and well.
Clickbait.
Because clickbait, dude.
LOL 😂

Great characters in John wick and the Grand Budapest hotel as well 👍🏻

I agree what a maniac

Tom Berenger was just superb.
His character was absolutely terrifying!
Tom berenger was by far the standout actor of the film, but William defoe comes a very close second
Sgt Barnes. He's the fella you need next to you in a firefight. Still one of the best Vietnam warfilms to date.
THE BEST !!!
Barns and Elias were the most interesting characters, but all of the actors who were involved in this masterpiece were great, (and Samuel Barber deserves a special thanks for his contribution as well).
Brilliant film still watch it now all these years on
I love Tom Berenger he nailed his part. Barnes...
If the machine broke down we broke down...
My favorite was Dale Dye, he was the real deal the military advisor for the movie and also a fellow Marine
Willem Dafoe was impressive for me. Street of fire, Mississippi burning, and Batman. Got impacted my 18 y/o days.
Yes he is great, Boondock Saints was I think a great performance.❤
Willem dafoe, was awesome in this movie and everything else he did since. Platoon was a great movie, showing the horrors of the vietnam war but for me the best movie is Apocolypse Now
Everyone was awesome in this movie ..
One of the few really great movies to receive Oscar recognition
Barnes was terrific. I was shocked when he did not receiver the Academy Award. All of these guys were great!
Sergeant Elias is my favourite character in the movie. He knew that it was useless shit what they were doing. He managed to conserve a little bit of humanity and civil courage during their chaotic mission. The scene of his death at the end of the film is legendary in history of cinema.
