I purchased my Shadowlight 60L over a year ago and have really enjoyed it. Among other hikes, I have used the pack on section hikes of about 350 miles of the Arizona Trail and the 60 mile Mammoth Lakes-to-Yosemite Valley section of the JMT. I have a permit to finish the southern part of the JMT later this Summer and will be using the Shadowlight on this hike. It is very comfortable! I rarely fuss with straps and adjustments once tensioned properly. I have very few complaints about the pack. I love the removable sit pad and the sizable hip belt pockets. A very minor irritation is the lack of ventilation between pack and my back. This becomes more noticeable on warmer hikes in the Southern Arizona deserts where I live. Though the lower side pockets are well designed for on-the-fly access to my smart water bottles, I’ve added a Z-packs bottle holder on one of my shoulder straps for even easier access. At first, I was disappointed to realize I was not going to be able to mount either my BV500 or BV450 bear can on the top of the pack. There are no attach points to add a long Y-strap. I realize, however, that this is not a good place for all that weight. I am satisfied since the bear can fits inside the pack with all my other gear. This is a good reason to get the 60L version over the 45L version of the pack. It has taken a while to learn to stuff things I might need on the trail near the zipper. The access is nice for ditty bag, clothing, etc. On heavier loads when the pack is well stuffed, I have avoided accessing items through the zipper. I still don’t trust any zipper will hold up when you try to reclose them under such stress. Overall I’m very pleased with the Shadowlight. At $200, it is a great value.

Finally a review on the Shadowlight that has actually been on the trail for more than one hour. This was delightful, I really appreciate that you touched upon all the features and there quirks. The pack is water-resistant so it would stand to use a rain cover, which is not a deal. The insight on waterproof zippers, was excellent. I've had my eye on this pack while considering others. Thank you for the info, very appreciated.

Really like my OV Shadowlight. Only problem I've had is the hip belt pocket zippers get stuck when I opened them all the way. If they didn't turn down at the end, it wouldn't be a problem. Great review...

Good piece of info to add. Thanks for the insight on the zip pockets. I don’t use them that much.

This is the exact pack I want. My buddy has the 40 or 45L pack and he loves it.

It’s definitely a solid pack. The price/weight/quality/usability makes it a HUGE bang for the buck purchase.

Hey Juan. On my shadowlight the belt tightening straps are doubled and sewn at the ends to prevent pull throughs. Sounds like yours might have escaped QC 🤣

Thanks for the comment.. ha ha.. i was thinking that the strap thing may have been an error because I was remembering my sons Shadowlight having some material folded and double sewn at the ends…. I’m going to have to circle back around to them on that.

I wish this pack came with a rain cover. I’d like to use it for a Mount Everest Base Camp trek. But, I’m concerned about rain.

Very valid concern.. it is water resistant but not water proof so a pack cover or pack liner would be best.

I fold mine and put it inside the pack just above my sleeping quilt.
