What is magnificent about chet atkins rendition of this is the fact that it is not overplayed . The voice of a master guitarist at the peak of his abilities. A testiment to observe of what to play or not to play . No one was as smooth as a silk as the artist as a guitar should be portrayed .
What is magnificent about Chet Atkins, was that he was race and color blind. He didn’t care whether your name was Reilly, Greenbaum or Smith, as long as music was your passion. He also couldn’t care less about skin color and , all and any other silly things that racists may use to divide humans. Chet was a real human.
Makes me cry that he’s not with us anymore . .what a guy. Decent, and not a racist bone in his body. He was friends and close friends with anyone , as long as music was their passion . . Black People, Jewish People and Italian People. He coudln’t care less about that unimportant stuff. . . This truly great kind of human being can only be SORELY missed….
The ascending portion of this song is just so perfect. I mean, the whole thing is perfect, but that refrain he keeps coming back to is doing something to me. Such a cool song.
THANK YOU for posting this! The only other live performance video of this (superior) acoustic version by Chet (on UA-cam) is only a fraction of the quality of this one
I don't have to say anything about the playing and the tune because 'nufs been said and we all know how wonderful it is but man if I could get my hands on that suit and shirt!!!
Chet didn’t play the guitar. He let the guitar play the tune. No one has ever played the guitar with so little excess force. Every note rings. It’s uncanny.
Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jerry Reed, Joe Maphis on the top of my ranking still today. Wonderfull what Chet does there, so clean how he played A rockabilly version by Joe Maphis, i love it ua-cam.com/video/ZWab2Z6mn5s/v-deo.html Great ol country fingerpickers
God DAMN I'm so over UA-cam comments- everyone, "he's the greatest PERIOD..." and "whoever gave thumbs down, sucks ass!" Whoooooo gives a SHIT??? Why, oh why does everyone want everyone ELSE to agree with them, or proclaim their own opinion as IT??? so no one has a right to NOT like something? Does your proclamation hereby denounce every other possible opinion??? Lol you people make me sick. Our society has become so one- sided and closed off to Socratic dialogue and true free thinking. I understand why comments are so often disabled on many videos.

So very well said and accurate! Thank you.
I don’t think anyone could have said this better. What to play and what not to play. Not too little or too much

Really not sure about your use of English but I think I understand. He was utterly amazing.
You know someone can play when it's as much a joy to watch their hands as it is to listen =.
IMHO Chet Atkins still is and will ever be the anforgettable guitar grandmaster!

He plays so effortlessly. Truly amazing.
Smoothness personified.
That there song just makes me want to cry beautiful! Isn't it? It tells me how wonderful a man is.
The ascending portion of this song is just so perfect. I mean, the whole thing is perfect, but that refrain he keeps coming back to is doing something to me. Such a cool song.
Love this man's music, listened to it for quite a. Number of years !: use to listen to him at night to gi to sleep by ! Nov.26 2023
The thing about Chet's playing:
it's not just brilliant; it's beautiful!
Yes, indeed! 😊 (Oh, those gawd-awful 1970's leisure suits! 😄 Lol!)
Yes. Chet knew how to bring the best out of a song.
Chet could take any song and make it his own. He'd always do his version of it and make it his own. One of the best there was at playing the guitar.
Chet foot never stops tapping. Love it!!!
I think we all feel so glad you have brought this masterpiece back to YT. Great!
Magical!
Supreme playing, sound so effordless-always a sign for a genius.
So glad these are recorded for us
Why does no one call him the greatest ever?
The Master, fantastic ! Thanks for uploading, Jimmy !
Great post. Thank you for sharing
No one like Chet. A true master.
THANK YOU for posting this! The only other live performance video of this (superior) acoustic version by Chet (on UA-cam) is only a fraction of the quality of this one
Mr GUITAR. PERIOD. luv it!.
Amazing Amazing Amazing!!!!!!!!!
So brilliant!💚
Holy cow! So good!!
My Hero!!!
Heard of Chet A. When I was a kid, many moons ago, first time I listened, good stuff. He should play with Chad Morgan.
I saw him live on a lawn at the Chautauqua Institute in NY when I was a teen! It was great.
Ha ha, that's wonderful! I'm from Chautauqua county and it's great to stumble on things like this :)
@@wonderlime783 I saw him there on two occasions and on one met him backstage. He always wore that thumb pick, whether playing or not.
You are a legend when years after you’re deceased people are still learning to play songs in a style that bears your name.
Mr GUITAR. PERIOD. luv it!
If he was British he would have been Sir Chester Atkins, without doubt !!
I don't have to say anything about the playing and the tune because 'nufs been said and we all know how wonderful it is but man if I could get my hands on that suit and shirt!!!
Chet your the Greatest its that simple !
The Master!
Wow so effortless!!!
The best version of BMR goes to Chet Atkins.May he RIP.
Those improv arpeggios!!! WOW!!
Yes!!!
Great job !
Very nice guitar work!
Wow..
The master
Paul Yandell, siempre junto a Chet Atkins, dos grandes 👍
Chet didn’t play the guitar. He let the guitar play the tune. No one has ever played the guitar with so little excess force. Every note rings. It’s uncanny.
Chet's 'Bell Bottom' period. :) Great to see him playing a classical instead of a steel string.
Even way, way back then there sits/plays Paul Yandell!!
If I could ONLY play like Ol Chet.
That's nice on two classical guitars!
...that ain't No RAG - THAT's a GEM ;)
チェットのギターは世界一や!
sick
They didn't call Chet Atkins Mr Guitar for nothing.
daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnngggg
The 12 people who gave this a thumb down must have been deaf and drunk. Good old Chet!!! Fantastic!
They’re not dislikes, they are likes from Australia
@@TheMerseySound1 🤣😂 "Well spaoken maite!"
Nice.
A fiddle piece on the git Fiddle, Good work
I'll never understand the fact that 4 wankers gave this video a thumbs down.
And there sits {Paul Yandell, note for note!
A real guitar player
Yeeeee haaaàaw! If that ain't some fine finger pickin' 🎸
Such a shame that such talent has to die. There's nothing like it these days.
His great protege Billy Strings comes close. Give him a few years to grow into that mature suave style
Who are the dummies that gave this brilliance a thumbs down?!
Probably envious pieces of crap who don't have a love for real music and talent...
Love gods in leisure suits.
🥰
Holy fuck, Chet !
I gotta get me a blue suit
I love you
For those critics who said he couldn't play rapidly.
Dang it...
Ture talent! Unlike the 21st century.

Great ol country fingerpickers
☆☆☆☆☆
They didn't get much better than Chester!!!
Fantastic! I would like to know when and where this performance was. Anyone know?
Austin City Limits (festival in Austin, TX) in 1978
Tommy Jones also plays a mean BMR. Check him out!! Been playing BMR for about 25 years, but still can't make it sound like Chet!!
I was talking about me in that last sentence, not Tommy Jones. He's awesome!!
The guy playing the accompaniment is laying it down too. Anyone know who the other guy is?
how much is a service
now that's a guitar that talks and don't yell ehhh
God DAMN I'm so over UA-cam comments- everyone, "he's the greatest PERIOD..." and "whoever gave thumbs down, sucks ass!" Whoooooo gives a SHIT??? he has a mathematical precision I normally associate with Bach
he was just showing off because girls were watching him

How can you get that good at guitar?!!!
lots of practice and some help from god
This is what the web was for.
Can anyone tell if that's open tuning?
Yes, I think it's open tuned to G - but that's a guess based on his thumb picking. Could be open D.
It's capo'd up a step as well.
Cool, thanks!
It's open tuned to A
It’s open G with a capo on 2 making open A.
Who was the backup guitarist? Was that Jim Croce's man Maury Muehleisen?
Paul Yandel.
What tuning is this? Anyone know?
sounded standard to me
black mountain rag
G-tuning I think
There's a capo on the guitar
Don't let your girlfriend watch his hands. She will only be jealous...
CHESTER !!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU MAKE ME CRY CAUSE i MISS YOU SO MUCH

I think the Doc Watson version sounds better. Probably sacraligeous to say so but.
Good, but this is not a fingerpicking song. To hear how it's supposed to be played on acoustic guitar check out Doc Watson's flatpicking version.
"Nice"???? How about "spectacular"???
They're classical not acoustic.
A classical guitar is an acoustic instrument, as long as it is not electrically amplified. The style of guitar as nothing to do with the version being acoustic.
'Acoustic' guitar has come to mean the steel strung acoustic guitar, but that's obviously not what the word originally meant.
c'est vraiment excellent, mais j'aime encore mieux l'interprétation de Marcel Dadi.
Played too fast!
Nope, it was just right.
