- Macyn Taylor playing "Black Mountain Rag," written by Leslie Keith, arr. Chet Atkins. I was recording this on the front porch of a neighbor's log cabin and a tractor went by on the road. I kept this clip because I thought the tractor added ambience.

I got this guitar from the father of a deceased Vietnam War veteran. It was his son’s. Captain Ronald Alan Ross was killed in battle on October 31, 1969. I played this guitar at a veteran’s memorial dedication in his home town with an actual rubbing from the wall displayed on the guitar. Not a dry eye in the park. I have physical possession of this guitar, but spiritual ownership is still the Captain’s.
My dad left me his ES-125 w/ two pickups. Same finish. You play great.
I’m back watching this having first watched it years and years ago. I loved it again and must say that this is an all time classic UA-cam video IMO!
Could listen to her play all day long. What a gift.
FANTASTIC. The 72 thumbs down are obviously american idol watchers. Love your playing, girl.
It is an ES-125. Early 1960’s? I got this guitar from the father of a deceased Vietnam War veteran. It was his son’s. Captain Ronald Alan Ross was killed in battle October 31, 1969. When I was 8 years old, I played this guitar at a veteran’s monument dedication in his home town with an actual rubbing of his name from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall displayed on the guitar. Not a dry eye in the park. I have physical possession of this guitar, but spiritual ownership is still the Captain’s.

I was in Vietnam at the time that he was killed. I did not know him but I remember we has some search and destroy missions. I had only two weeks left in my tour, wasn’t allowed to go on them. I survived my tour and am now 78.
@@gfurstnsu bless all of you. In 1967, at the tender age of 14, I took the CT overnight Amtrak to DC to participate in the huge anti war protest. We were on opposite sides but today, we are on the same side, in sadness over the terrible loss of life on every side.
Super cool arrangement! The Tonkin gulf incident was a lie. So many precious lives lost for a lie. Hope people learn not to trust those who want to sell us bogus wars.❤️
GOD BLESS YOU GIRL !
I was not expecting that back story !
Wow !
And know too, you do him proud with every note !
Beautifully done, and thank you for all !
Semper Fi !

The pickin, cabin, Gibson, tractor and Oh that smile just made my day!
This is old now, but really great....and amazing story about the guitar.
This is one of my Favorite Macyn Taylor videos. Like to see her play this es-125 more.
it's very rare to see such a happy and talented young person. makes the cruddy world seem worthwhile
The best thing she can do for her performances is smile. She really has a lovely smile.
A beautiful, barefoot woman sittin' on the front porch pickin' a guitar. I think I'm in love. Great job young lady. I never heard any better pickin' anywhere by anybody at anytime. Thank you for the video.
What a great job on this awesome tune. Chet would be proud.
Sitting barefoot on the porch pickin' some Chet on a warm summer day. The simple things in life are the best! Nicely done Macyn!
resocujr
Agreed !
resocujr yes indeed
resocujr DOC WATSON! Not Chet.
"The simple things"
Gibson guitar, not cheap amp, great big house, whitening teeth, etc.
These things are sophisticated things, very expensive things, which feigning to be "The simple things".
Feday B.: Well Feday B, you too can have those simple things in life! Just get a job and stop chewing baccy and smoking whatever. Your teeth will be so much whiter, your brain clearer AND you can afford a Fender Princeton amp (not expensive) and a modest home in the country. The Gibson guitar appears to be an ES137, not cheap, but probably in the family for years (just a guess). Another guess is that you are not a musician. The kid is good. Simple as that. You are disgruntled. Simple as that.
Excellent Country Girl picking on the Country porch. Love it a million times. Thanks for sharing.
Girl and music perfect🎉
I remember watching this video almost a decade ago while studying, and it just randomly popped up in my UA-cam recommendations again. Still admire Macyn's talent.
She's got that special Atkins-Feeling ... either one has it or not! Great, really.
very nice job on this one! beautiful guitar!
Macyn Taylor you are a wonder!
Can't get enough of this one. That's fine. I'll listen to it over and over again :-)
She's Amazing. .
I finally found this vídeo after eleven year i saw it for the first time. It is a classic and has that genuine folk vibe. Love it.
Some people dance to the music and some people move with the music. Some people learn to play the guitar and some people use the guitar to allow the music to flow from their soul, through their fingers into the instrument.
I'll never be as good as this, no matter how hard I try. Fabulous talent.
I took classical as a secondary style in college, but I mostly play finger-style.
Every aspect of this video encapsulates the beauty of America.
Wow , beautiful girl , beautiful guitar , and great pickin . Don't get no better than that !!!
You've hit the nail bang on the head there Ken.
Who on Earth could dislike that? Certainly put a smile on my face. Thanks!
I have been playing for 10 years, since I was 7 years old.
Your smile could stop traffic and your playing could hush a rowdy bar room crowd. Just superb playing....a level I will not get to in my lifetime. Really enjoy hearing and watching you play.
Hi
My name is Edward long time fan
Of Chet Atkins you really play good
Although I am a trained Classical Guitarist my Roots are country
My Applause to you

As a guitar player for 56 years I love listening to your playing....I speak for all guitarists when I say--- I WANT TO HEAR MORE...MORE...MORE..MORE....
YOU'RE AWESOME.
Thanks for posting, busker. The porch, the tune, the tractor reflection, her bare feet,it all makes a fine rendition of America. Macyn is so neat. rcj
Goodness, if you aren't the cutest little country thing I've ever seen, with the sweetest voice!
Wow. Masterful. I've been playing guitar for 35 years, fingerstyle for 20, and have to say that Chet himself would thoroughly approve of your perfect rendition of this song. You done great.
Nice to see someone having fun just sitting & picking, great fun😎
... the tractor going down the road and the reflection in the glass was magic. Thanks for the wonderful pickin', young lady.
Beautiful performance! Something wrong in a world where 30 people don't get it.
More talent there than most can realize. Keep it up !

Old circa 1956 ES-125 and a 1962 Princeton? What a totally supreme tone combination. This lady has style, taste, and great chops. Keep it up.
Good eye Al!
Nice guitar and playing! I used to have a 1962 ES-125 TDC (Thin Double pickup Cutaway)) that I sold years ago for an absolutely not good reason. Oops and durn it.
I just bought a 61' Es125 and they sound great with that amp even better! Great playing, inspiring to see and hear :-)

What a great talent. You always play with honesty and great feeling!
Where you at now? This is Awesome!!!
Macyn is such a talented guitar player. Now I am learning this piece played in open G. Thanks to you........Trixie Van Anglen
I always favored fingerpicking and if I do anything the leans towards flatpicking, I'll usually use my thumbpick.
Hi I'm new Travis picking is my favorite kind of playing i just started seven years ago at the age of fifty always wanted to so got myself a flat top Takamine for fourty seven dollars an fifty cents at a pawn shop haven't put it down yet, a rich kid is pore with out the Knowledge of playing a musical instrument 🙂 God bless
Yep. For me, Mississippi John Hurt is my musical godfather forever.
you are a great inspiration, try to play along with everything you do, love that smile, shows you are really enjoying what you do. thnx for the music!!
Really great! How can you possibly have any dislikes on this?! Really enjoyed your playing and nice video.
Never get tired of listening to this girl playing this song....ME ENCANTA!!!!!!!
I want to see all those 14 "Thumbs downers" doing it better. What ignorants are you or you don`t have any musical feeling and knowledge.
Macy- this is absolutely terrific. Keep it up.
Best wishes,
Ernst
BurnsErnst You tend to find on UA-cam that people with no talent whatsoever really cannot handle it when they see people with massive talent like this young lady. You used the right word, ignorance. Anyone who has ever played the guitar, professionally or otherwise properly, knows how great she is in all her videos. The people who 'thumbs down' such talent are, as you say, ignorant and I suspect many of them have a guitar, know 6 power chords, play with massive distortion, and think they are guitar players. They are not, they are people making a noise. There is a world of difference. Envy must be eating them away !
BurnsErnst Or look at it another way 14 out of 335,000. I think we can safely say we (fans) are in the majority !
BurnsErnst there just jealous that this women can actually teach them something ive been learning alot from watching her play
BurnsErnst could be a bit jealous those 14 thumbs.
BurnsErnst: I agree. So many people will thumbs down stuff because they can't do it themselves and that's sad. I'm not a big fan of Bluegrass, but I can recognize skill and talent and this young lady certainly has both.
Very beautiful sweet love music! Wow I love this music so very sweet much! Thank you very much!
Very nice. Do you country folk really use tractors as ambiences?
Not ambulances, ambience.
That was awesome Macyn! Grew up on tunes like this and you’ve sure got the heart and soul.. keep on picking 👍👍👍
Bare feet and all.....I love it!
Incredibly good playing. Great guitar too. I love nice archtops like this one. Fantastic.
thats real nice picken girl ...!!!
Excellent , Doc Watson eat your heart out!
Odd you have a landscape and tree inside your house through the front door and a tractor. Weird.
+Guitaro Montalban In Australia we call it a reflection....
That's all very well, +Gavin Mathew, but from Macyn's point of view, your trees would be reflected upside down. I think the music sounds the same right side up or upside down. I think...
Thanks Jim for correcting me so elegantly! Either way, the music is terrific. Best regards.
always can count on an aussie to deliver a hilarious sarcastic reaction on point every time
reflection or too much moonshine
Beautiful to listen to and watch.
Damn.. will you marry me?;)
^^^
your an arse to say that to this lovely person . shame on you
Why would she want to marry someone who can only pick his nose.
somchai Shaw Comon. Sweet girls need a good laugh once in awhile. Lighten up.
Great job on that!! I've been wanting to play that for over 30 years ever since I heard Doc Watson.
Well done! And the tractor going by was the perfect touch. Thanks.
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST VERSION YET. MAGNIFICENT............
I just came across this today (2023). Loved it. I'm a big C.A. fan. Your playing and smile go really well together and the tractor driving by was a nice touch! I also loved your I'll See You In My Dreams video. Thank you for sharing your talent and music to us.
Bless her lil heart....so good!
Beautiful playing and place!!
So true. She could and probably should be on American Idol. But if not she has a lifetime of music that will always be with her. I learned few chords and can sing some, and am asked to play, by friends, and feels good every time..
There is more talent on this planet than I had at first given you credit for.
A joy to hear and watch.
You're so lucky to have a guitar like that at your age. Nice playing - respect!
And that folks is TALENT. Thank you Macyn. Ken (England).
I like it better each time I play it . Love...
beautiful song, beautiful cabin, beautiful girl. I love the south..( northerner)
wonderful job you do that song much justice its great to see a young lady holding her own with the great chet atkins never stop and yes the tractor was perfect
The guitar is a peach and the story behind it is so moving. Good for you for keeping his spirit alive- really enjoyed this!
Wow.. we are witnessing a greatly talented musician just getting more assured and creative. The tradition is in safe hands and Marcel Dadi smiles down from above.
this just makes me smile. Thank you so much for sharing that.
Chet and all of us finger style pickers are smiling. Love it Macyn.
Love it..and that neat old Gibson hollow. Great job.
Great talent!
WOW,,,I got-ta play that over, God bless you young lady. Im 70 yrs old & lve been "messing" with a guitar for most of my life until a few yrs ago ( arthrites stop`ed that ) but l could never come close to playing like you. I`ll bet Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jerry Reed, & a lot more are smileing down at you. l wish you the very best of luck...
Lucky porch. Gets to hold up that beauty and the sounds coming from said beauty. Love the axe in front of the amp. Looks like a Fender somethin'. Fine example of pickin' & grinnin'.
I love your playing and especially the cicedas in the background, the truck, all of it...just magic
