I always thought of the sardaukar as space spartans, since the rite of passage for becoming a sardaukar warrior is an increasingly intense series of trials in the wilderness. and they're thrown into that wilderness as children, alone and defenseless, also similar to the rite of passage for a male from sparta
@@jays2551 I am aware that the Sardaukar are inspired by many warrior cultures throughout history. They are brought up like spartans, they fight like Samurai, they are faithful like knights and loyal like the Immortals, royal elite guards like the Praetorians. However in the movies they also are depicted to throat sing like Mongolians. Which were also once a great Empire with renowned warriors. I think in one of the novels Genghis Khan is actually accidentally thought to be a Sardaukar by one of the characters, could be wrong though. The Sardaukar (and Fremen) are essentially the culmination of every great warrior culture in our history.
As a woman, Fremen menstruation sounds fascinating. Instead of monthly periods, the women might have 6 or less periods per year. Without sounding too gross, the periods might be little dried clots like beef jerky bits mostly devoid of water.
Uh huh.... Then imagine instead of thick liquid of sperm, they have thickest, almost jelly like sperm. That mean male Fremen didn't need to worry to wipe it out after they've done it inside. It's just still there.
You should do a battle animation for Paul’s utter capitulation of the emperors army. Seems people don’t understand how Paul used combined arms tactics, and his prescience in detecting the incoming storm to neutralize the air superiority of the emperors force. It was literally the perfect storm, and people think the sardukar were just nerfed..
I mean I saw the movie and I can see the Emperor army is woefully unprepared. It doesn't matter if you are very skilled, tactics is the deciding factor in battle. Logistics is for wars but that a story for another day.
@@yaujj65 the army wasn’t unprepared they just didn’t have enough time to deploy in proper formation and first FIND where Maud’ib was. Apparently its a pretty regular part of the Fremen diet, at least in trace amounts. I believe it will add some flavor and pass on traits such as extended life and the blue eyes.
Have you guys ever read the Red Rising series? If your into Dune you'll probably love it as it definitely takes a ton of inspiration from Dune. It also has a LOT of historical references to ancient Rome/Greece as the inspiration for ruling society with smaller culture groups being based off other historical groups like the Vikings, so it's filled to the brim with fun historical Easter eggs for the reader to catch as many of the events are definitely based on old fantastical tales.
If every male has to kill another male to marry, and might kill multiple other males, and if males have the extremely dangerous sandworm riding rite of passage and are also the warriors... you'd expect a ratio of like 3+ women per man. But I feel like we don't quite see that? it looks more like 1.5:1 or something closer to that.
@@MichaelRainey That's a good point. I am not a Dune expert, but my impression is that they have relatively little contact with offworlders. But maybe they don't, and we should think they are killing Harkonnen workers regularly? Seems like there would be more vicious reprisals if so, though...

I would have expected to hear that the Fremen kill all babies who are mentally or physical disabled, considering them at a waste of food and water. I mean given the brutally of the Fremen and that it is expected that children did participate from so young age, I can not imagine that they have any patience or mercy with anyone who can do their part... However I was never realy convinced with this Fremen-hype as the super-duper-badass🙄. I can accept that they beat the Sardaukar in survival skills (of course only in the desert) - but in combat? Na, I am not convinced. After all they still have to WORK/grow food/repairing etc., while the Sardaukar are fulltime soldiers. It is this (i. m. o. a little bit silly or at least naive or short-sighted) idea that the "noble savage" always beat the professional soldiers. This cliche is so overused, I am a little bit sick of it.😉
Some of my favorite characters are disabled people in really tough "kill disabled babies" societies. It adds to the stakes. Makes for good stories. I feel like a story about a disabled fremin kid would be cool.
To be honest the idea of the author of a society which members kill each other so frequently just to proove that they are full "adult" was at least a little bit bonkers.
