Acoustic In The Center But Mesh On The Edge? TRUsound Low Volume Drumheads
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2020
- There are low volume cymbals, and now there are low volume drumheads. These drumheads aren't quite mesh, and they aren't quite mylar acoustic drumheads. There are two types, the TRUsound Practice Series (75% Quieter Than Acoustic) and the TRUsound Live Series (15% Quieter).
Pros:
1. Fair Price
2. Actually Useful
3. You Can Change Volume
Just By Playing On A
Different Part Of The Head
(Practice Series).
Cons:
1. Air Bubbles In Current
Iteration
2. It Could Be Argued That
You Could Replicate The Effect Of These Heads With
Cut Up Acoustic Heads,
Mesh, And Some Gaff Tape.

Hello everybody this is the owner of Trusound Drums and the air bubbles will be gone the adhesion is a patent pending along with the whole head there are 4 different patents pending for this product. Mass production will start in the summer. And fyi tape doesn't really work very well. Thank you Justin we will send you the final versions for a full video review shortly.
Please sell these in the uk need one on my snare
@@flanagansrage7885 hello sir we will definitely be selling them in the UK we have quite a few international patents pending and you should start to see them end of summer. :)
@@trusoundlowvolumedrumheads1002 Just a thought, you guys probably thought of it or tried it already but, couldn't you put just put the Mylar layer between the two mesh layers? Probably doesn't have the feel of it being on top of the mesh, right?
Great product! Looking forward for a full review. Would recommend also a 50% reduction option maybe? This would be great for garage practice without annoying the hell out of the neighbors (maybe a garage line?). Would have picked this if available when I got my eDrum.
Definitely looking for this product to hit the shelves will definitely be buying some for my practice at home kit...cant wait
That is wild! Hearing the snare without much of the Snare’s Tom sound.
Interesting concept for volume and feel control
I heard these at NAMM and the live version sounded fantastic.
I got a traps drum kit and love it,not nearly as loud or takes up as much room as a full acoustic kit and I could put 2 ply oil heads on it and make it even quieter.
Thanks for another informative video! Due to your thoughts backed up with great playing I'm thinking of making the jump to mostly electronic drums. For sure all electronic at home for practice and playing. Btw I love the look of your Roland drums compared to the blue sparkle Sonor conversion kit!
I’ve actually been looking for these type of heads . I play in an acoustic type band that a normal kit is just to much for but after playing that way for 50 years it’s what I’m comfy with I’m not a fan of playing Cajon or electronics drums so I will definitely be looking these up great review 👍
Would love to see a side by side comparison of these and the new LV mesh heads!
That is just awesome!

I am looking forward to these mesh heads when they come out.
On the reviewing sode of things, i noticed you review many heads from the uk which are obviously hard to get due to shipping costs.
As us being here in the u.s., would you please review american drum head companies more often...such as the whole line of Prism not just their reflector series but also their sim series.
Also Aquarian super mesh as well. Thanks much.
I play a low volume kit with zildjian l80's, and mesh heads and acoustic resonants, it gives a decent sound while being a lot quieter.
Very interesting, indeed!
Always nice to see new low volume products coming out. Seems like an interesting product, though I wonder how that acoustic material holds up over time & how they compare to the RTOM Black Holes in terms of tone and volume.
We have been developing these for almost 2 years durability is very high some of the prototypes have been thru hell ;)

Don’t know if you remember Justin but I bounced this very idea around before a layer of mesh with Mylar
Nothing better for electronic cymbals than converting any of the perforated cymbals like Gen16, Quiet Tone, LV80
I put Aquarian duraDots on my Remo Silent Stroke heads immediately after adding the heads back when the Yamaha EAD10 came out.
I have a set of the QuietTone’s and dig their “sound”. Why? Because the sound doesn’t matter when they’re just for practice!!!!
They give the feel of cymbals and are very durable stainless steel.
As for the mesh heads, I’d be down with a set of the “black dot” centered ones. Put these on and go to town!
They remind me of the RTOM mesh caps you put over your rims. I assume the durability will be the same for these?
These will be perfect for my new band! We have guitar with no strings, keyboard we leave unplugged, and a singer who just lip syncs. We play libraries and various deaf clubs. We can play ANY request!
Can you play “ enjoy the silence “
what? i can't hear you
Dude, how and where do u find these gems?😂
God bless you man. I've learned a lot from the work u put on these videos. Thanks for that 👏🏼
Thanks dude!

I have been doing something like this for years with my Remo Silent Strokes. I put masking tape on the drum head covering about 30% of the head and I get good resonance and tone this way. I also use Sabian Quiet Tone cymbals.
Wow, interesting stuff!
This IS Crazy!

Hi Justin have you tried Centent wisper cymbaks.
Much cheaper good sound and comes in 5 colours.
This could Really boost my game because people wouldn’t be able to hear me. 👍
I just bought the cymbal and drum pack. I love everything about the heads, and the cymbals. One exception my snare sounds like trash. I've tried everything can't seem to tighten the sound lots and buzz, and trash lid sound. Any Advice
Please review Pintech LTE cymbals. Thanks :)
If you've already got the Remo Silentstroke heads the Aquarian Drumdots do this exact thing. I use them when I can play just a little louder and they're removable and reusable
Does it add too much volume. I'm dreaming up a busking kit that can be pretty quiet. At first I thought a kit with small sized drums and plenty of muffling would do but it may still be too loud. Then I saw remo silent heads and the ziljan quiet cymbals and thought that may work. That may be too quiet. Maybe I can get the silent stroke heads and add the aquarian center dot thingy to add some tone. What do you think? I'm trying to be not too much louder than a cajon.
@65Drums @trusoundlowvolumedrumheads1002 Could these work with a converted acoustic kit? Along with the Drum-Tec Groovedot internal trigger for example?
Thin cymbals, thin and little drumshells, thin light drumsticks and a soft playing is better for middle volume!, for silent play is the "loud" mashhead + silendcymbals better, and for normal is ... ;) ...but i see coming a good mid volume drum in the near future and be happy about that :D!!!
...for me acoustic drums with real (i ply thin cymbals) cymbals are the one and only! For practice is lw volume setup perfect and that you can use as low volume drums to :) ...greetings from austria
I think everyone agrees that these are great and definitely intriguing. Now we just need to know how they trigger. I'm wondering about the hybrid head plus hybrid drums. I've done this before with Evans hydraulic heads and Roland rt series acoustic triggers but never got the fine nuances and ghost notes.
Check out how they are now being used with triggers ua-cam.com/video/bKEMqULyZA0/v-deo.html
You kidding? These sound like a joke. If someone doesn't like the decibel volume of their acoustical drums. Quit playing real drums and buy an electronic kit. Why put up with the weight, volume, and stage area of an acoustical kit when you don't like the sound and decibels? That's why wannabe percussionists go electronic.
Could you get similar results with a drum-tec pro head with a mylar resonant head?
I missed the link for Trusound drums (for notification sign up ) and the Sabian FRX cymbals woulda been handy ;)

Awesome!
What about screen printing a batter center on a mesh head? What do you think of this Idea?
I’m an old-school drummer and I’ve had to quit because of my baby daughter, this is something of a game-changer for someone like me that misses playing but can’t because of my daughter. I look forward to trying these in the near future!
Singly ply mesh head on toms glue round pieces of old drum heads in the center and half fill with blankets....+low volume cymbals
You can do the same effect with duct tape on silent stroke heads. Makes the snare a lot louder, and you can change the tone depending on where you place the duct tape. DO IT.
I play my old drum kit with Remo Silentstrokes and Millenium Still Series Cymbals. This really works for me. I adjusted the tension on the drums to match accoustic ones as good as I could. It is not the real thing, I know, and I really crave to play a real set again soon, but for my situation, living in a small flat and having a basement room with enough space for a kit, this is really as good as it gets. Anyone knows any tricks to make my BD feel more accoustic on meshheads?
Hi Justin. I just ordered zildjian l80s and I intend to use them to play with my friends (they use small amplifiers and we don't like to make much noise). The acoustic kit just overpowers everything. The problem is, I kind of hate the way mesh heads sound. I don't mind having a little extra volume as long as they fit the cymbals and sound close to acoustic.
Do you think it's a good idea to buy cheap mesh heads and cut pieces of mylar to glue on the center? will it work like the ones on video?
if they do I might post a video of it.
Take care
Was looking at making a low volume kit using Agean R series cymbals but wasn’t sure if I really wanted to use Remo silentstroke heads so these would be great to use once they fix the issues with them
Hello issues are fixed mass production will begin summer of 2020 :)
the ageans are only slightly quieter than regular cymbals. be careful if you are ordering them off the internet without hearing them in person
Nick yeah I was looking at reviews and apparently they’re pretty loud so might actually just go with the Zildjian L80s

How would you compare these to RTom black holes?
Would these be an option to use on a e-Kit? To give it a better feel? It definitely sounds good!!
Zax Drums roland mesh heads tuned correctly feel no different than an acoustic head.
@@bhutch216 okay never really played them other than a couple of minutes
Zax Drums I have a few friend with the lower end kits with rubber pads and one with a td 30 k but doesn’t tune the heads. They say mine (TD50KV) are just like a real drum head. It helps keep the heads nice too. If left loose the breakdown in the middle, like a soggy cardboard box.
@@bhutch216 thank you for your reply. I was just wondering since I have only played on mesh heads a couple of times.
@@bhutch216 not really mesh feels more reboundy but the more plys you use the closer it feels
Couldn't you mod out a silent stroke by placing gaff tape (or some other adhesive material like vinyl) over it? I have some sheets of vinyl from a print shop and tried it and it works.
Bass drum patch might work.
I got a can of Flex-Seal and sprayed a “dot” on the backside of my Silentstokes. It’s not perfect, but it’s a big improvement (IMHO). I recently got some Aegean low-volume cymbals. They sound great, but are a bit louder than L80’s. I’m now looking for a drum head that will match these cymbals. These Trusound heads seem to be exactly what I want. I hope they actually come to market.
Aquarian Drumdots are incredible for this
@@philyoung2362 damn flex-seal can do anything. Imma try this when i get my cheap meshes.
Holy Moly those seem interesting... Wonder if they will get popular =/
Hi Jacob we really hope so :)
@@trusoundlowvolumedrumheads1002 I hope so too! Not gonna lie, I just might need these for my kit XD My neighbors would probably like me a lot more if I did XD
Hey Justin I have a question for you. I just got a Mimic Pro module and I'm trying to update the software and add the library expansion from 2017 as well. I'm gonna rewatch your Mimic videos on downloading the library but do I have to download all the software updates or will I get the first 2 or 3 software updates by just downloading the most recent one? Thanks in advance man
Sorry never mind I figured it out. Thanks anyways!
Hopefully these will have nice rebound on the bass drum im really struggling with my mesh bass drum pedal feels flappy even when fully tightened

Do you think the Practice series heads would work on say an alesis strike kit, would they trigger well? And If not do you have any suggestions for replacement heads for an alesis strike kit?
Drum Tec Real Feel are the best mesh heads on the market
Does anybody have any news on the status of development / launch date?
i really like this idea, think they sound good to, are the levels of sound ok if you were in an apartment with people above and below you? its hard to gauge watching the video. this is defo something I would try
Hi Dirt they will absolutely work in an apartment people below you or above will not be bothered unless the walls were paper thin or something. :)
@@trusoundlowvolumedrumheads1002 thank you, I guess I'll try them once they become available.

So I could just make these myself?
Humph!?! Interesting for sure. How would they fair with trigger (internal & side mounted)?
Hello Last to nowhere they will definently work with triggers either position. :)
@@trusoundlowvolumedrumheads1002 thank you for your response. Mesh drum heads are indeed a tricky to tame for rebound. I look forward to your product when launched (website?). 🙂✌ 65drums 😁#☝️(subscribed 2 or channel 4 more news btw)
Buy a Remo silent stroke and Aquarian dura dot. Apply dura dot to drum head. Profit.
So it's glues on a mesh head? Still mesh underneath? I will pass. I have no issue with doubly ply mesh heads.
Where do we get these heads?!?
Hello William they will be available this summer :)
Trusound Drums Excellent! I look forward to getting a set. They look like a real step up from my Remo silent strokes for the practice kit.

Interesting, but I think its quite annoying that u have to hit the center everytime and if u miss you get a pretty dead sound probably
Eh, if you want both low volume and acoustic sometimes you have to compromise
If you’re playing them for practice purposes I’d imagine being forced to play with more precision wouldn’t exactly be a bad thing.
@@hanny9532 good point
Hello
Hello
Hi, thanks for the video. I think they do look quite ugly and even for prototypes I think to myself how hard can it be to get the bubbles out. I am an older, very much a learner, pupil and am fortunate enough to own a Roland TD17 kvx set and a new Pearl 6 piece set. Regards, Bob M. South Wales, UK
These sound like a muffled trash can, end of story. From someone here who's already tried them.
Anyone else order these over 2 years ago and never recieve them?
Check out how they are now being used with triggers ua-cam.com/video/bKEMqULyZA0/v-deo.html
For what ur paying you could probably soundproof your practice area. Volume is the secret ingredient to sounding good.
So get some used mesh heads for cheap, get (or buy) some used (or cheap) regular drum heads (maybe coated ones, so they don't look so bad with the glue), glue them together...done!...
Now that might be a great way to practice without being very loud.
I'm sure these guys would like to make money off this product, but it's going to have to look WAY WAY better than those. It looks like they were done by a random dude at home. They should have used coded heads themselves.
Get them at www.trusounddrums.com
Wouldn't someone want digital drums because they don't want the big sound acoustic drums make? Blending acoustic with digital now? Meh.
Super glue and old drum heads here i come ! Sorry but id just rather recycle . 🤘
I tried these at NAMM and it's more than that. I think that's what makes these special. Seems simple but there was a reason they were never made before.
@@LawOfficeofRSFpatent i agree now lol
