I Test drive the cx5, rav4 and this crv was the best choice I made the driving space and overall look amazing!
Super comfortable is the primary focus of the CR V.
I’ve had a 2020 EX-L for a little over a month, about 3,000km on it, no oil dilution problem. No smell of gas, oil level is over 80%, likely to get close to 20,000km between oil changes. In comparison, Toyota is 8,000 and Hyundai is 6,000. We drove Toyota Sienna’s for about 21 years (1998-2018) and bought a CR-V as a 2nd vehicle in 2012. That decision was because we liked the design of the CR-V over the RAV-4 but we never seriously considered Toyota since Honda maintenance has been so much cheaper.
This is the 3rd CR-V we’ve had, although we enjoyed our Sienna’s we did have fuel injection problems that required service and part replacement around 100,000kms. We also had one engine problem that could have cost us $4,500 CDN to fix. Since purchasing Honda in 2012, we’ve never had a repair issue and maintenance costs have been cut significantly.
Also, about the oil dilution issue, there is none. Everyone’s experience is different, we live in a cold climate and the 2020 warms up a lot quicker than the 2010 or 2016 CR-V. As many know the turbo generates a lot of heat so it was a balance of cooling the engine that required the software update. And for those that claim that it was an engine change in 2019 & 2020, it was not. Again it’s a balance of the open / close loop which is managed by software, not hardware. Do your own research.
In my situation though it may not have mattered as much, I live in an area with a lot of rolling hills. I need to rev up to 2,500 no matter what direction I go so I can warm up the engine in as little as 3 minutes even in -10 Celsius weather. My 2010 or 2016 engine could not do that, it would take 5-7 minutes. So from my perspective, the 1.5L (L15B7 Engine) is much better than the 2.4L I had in my 2016 (K24W) or 2010 (K24Z4) CR-V.
please do oil changes early
the latest 8km
little cost but Pease of mind
Thanks for covering Honda's auto idle stop in the CRV At 19:28. I think youre the first reviewer to give an opinion on how the system felt when active. Other reviewers don't even bring it up or just pointed out that it's a new feature for 2020.
I have the EX-L, I like this feature, it is not used until your engine warms up and makes a lot of sense especially if you are stuck at long traffic lights, traffic jams etc. When you start to accelerate it’s definitely not as fas as if you were not using it, but just enough that the car behind you will notice that you were delayed in reacting to the traffic light or the car ahead of you.
@@SCraig-Handsome Both of our vehicles, a 2019 Jeep Cherokee V6 and 2019 Subaru Forester have the auto stop start. My wife hates it so shuts it off on the Subaru which is her car. I usually leave it on in the Cherokee but shut it off in heavy traffic because of the continuous on and off. I have learned in both cars not to immediately step on the gas when the engine restarts. I have found that the transition is smoother in both cars if you let the engine and transmission catch up to itself before accelerating. Just waiting a second or two makes a big difference in both cars.
In Canada, we have panoramic sunroof (Touring and up), heated rear seats (EXL and up and even our 2019 EXL has it), and Sport and Black Edition trims based off EX and Touring respectively. I'm ready to see that you're jealous!
It seems like the Canadian spec vehicles always offer a little more than the American counterparts
The Canadian Civic LX's also come with a rear cupholder armrest and apple CarPlay and Android auto, which the Civic in the US do not have for the LX trims there.
I’ve also found that the civic touring (when converted from Canadian dollars to USD) is substantially cheaper in Canada. When converted to USD, the civic touring in Canada is around 22k, but in the US it’s ~27k
I'm in northern Ontario. I saw the Black Edition with the panoramic sunroof. It's looks absolutely incredible!!! BUT...... I just can't get by the 1.5L turbo engine. I'll take a serious look at the CR-V hybrid when it comes out and hopefully it has a black edition also.
@@henryhonda8408 What is wrong with the 1.5 turbo, doesn't the CRV have this engine as well?
I drive my 19’ CR-V EX-L in Eco mode and I get 32-34 mpg, and I love it
*its also AWD
TJF Denver why
Hey...Congratulations on getting your first press car! Love your reviews. You and your brother do a great job!
Thanks so much! 😁
@Nikhil Shankar manufacturers provide vehicles to reviewers (historically members of the press before YT) for an extended period in order to provide in depth opinions.
Car Confections my favorite car was you first press car! That’s so cool!
Nikhil Shankar a car that a manufacturer gives you for a week and lets you tell your impressions on it and review it
My 2017 gets about 34 mpg (average) out here on the countryside roads, and if the conditions are right I’ve gotten 40 mpg at a steady 65 mpg.
Bill my wife has a EX we live in Phoenix so air on all the time and she gets with a mix of Interstate and city 38MPG all day long for the last 24,000 miles
SUVs these days are incredible pieces of highly functional engineering, and thanks to the very exacting engineering and assembly standards of most of them - it is hard to buy a “lemon”. But it is no wonder why the “current crop” (2017+) of CR-Vs consistently rate #1. The smoothness of the CVT, the quiet-yet-powerful 1.5 turbo, the upscale interior of the EX-L trim, the competitive pricing, and of course the incredible mileage are undeniable features that make CR-V owners very happy campers.
Looking at all the small suvs, I always come back to the CR-V. Good job guys! :D
CX5 any day
Wish all reviews were this comprehensive.
Thanks 😎🇬🇧
We appreciate that! 😁
I hope they update the AWD . On my parents SUV the AWD is no good the get stuck in snow even there is a bit snow only one tiere is moving.
Agree.. My 18 CRV AWD is like a skateboard in the snow. The back end loses control and the factory Ecopia tires are the worst tires I’ve had on any Ny Honda. My fwd 16 Accord is actually better in the snow and I don’t have any oil dilution problems with it as I do with my CRV.
I have a 2020 Touring 2wd and have driven a lot of highway miles. I am averaging 33-35mpg combined.
Great video. Lots of information. The only thing I'd be wondering (for soccer moms, car poolers, or family of 5) is how it easy it is to manuver, park, go over speed bumps, especially with full capacity, in cramped urban setting.
Thanks as always! It is super maneuverable in all kinds of settings, with a nice and tight turning circle
2 years ago? yes, but not the current generation Rav4, its simply sublime and driving it feels like reliable
Modern Soccer id much rather have this over any rav4
Let's hope that the stigma the CRV got from the turbo engine subsides when the hybrid enters production in the US. While there were numerous reports of a turbo problem, haven't heard complaints about the hybrid powertrain that the has been available on the Accord since 2017.
Unfortunately the hybrid doesn’t include a spare tire I heard. Ugh
Good now I know it's more spacious, and most importantly quieter, comfier and more refine than the Rav4, will get this one
ua-cam.com/video/E7Yuco_FRq0/v-deo.html
Still the good reliable SUV I can afford today.
Awesome job with your videos anyway dude!
Seeing the Kroger bags got me reminiscing on the days where it was my first real job! Didn't know you still have Kroger in your area. They've been closed down here for years.
Oh yeah? We have like a Kroger on every street haha
Congratulations..you guys represent the Commonwealth well!!
Thanks!!
I wish they wouldve put a panic moon roof like the Canadian one has
excellent review guys!
Thanks!
Great review guys ! Hope you've had a great week !! Do you like the interior better on the CRV or Rav4 ? Did you have any smell from the engine as others have referred to with the oil dilution issues ? ( great video on that as well ) RAV4 just got a recall :( Have a great weekend !
Thanks! We didn't smell any gas or anything inside the CR-V but this one only had about 1,500 miles on it. As far as interiors, we probably prefer the RAV4 by a small margin simply because of the more up-to-date infotainment system. Hope you have a great weekend as well!
Nice car! I love your reviews… I ended up buying the Lincoln Corsair. I would love to know what you think about that one someday 😊
Macsterguy is the corsair nice?
Gage Stoller so far, so good! Really nice riding car. On the small side but works for me. I would definitely recommend it after 130 miles 😊
Fantastic! Congrats! We definitely need to get our hands on a Corsair soon to check out!
I would never ever buy a CR-V. Noise engine and each generation has a problem. Vibration on idle, oil dilution.
Drew and Mason 😄, Kroger was my favorite grocery store while I was in college in North Carolina, that's where I shopped. Kroger is the greatest grocery store hands down. One of the items I absolutely love to buy was Kroger brand fruit snacks that came in a green bag and were $.99 if on sale. It's great to see Kroger is still around, I'm not sure where in Kentucky your review of the CR-V took place, but the area around you all looks rural and amazing. I love scenic rural areas.
Yeah Kroger is where we do all our shopping haha. And yes, out in the country makes for a nice place to film!
@@CarConfections I rather go with Toyota they are the best
North Carolina has Wegmans now woohooo!!!!
Any gas in the oil? It may be an isolated issue but I am hearing if you are one of the unlucky ones with the problem that it hasn't been fixed. If you drive a lot of short trips in a cold climate you may want to avoid the CRV. I don't want anybody's GDI Turbo. It puts more stain on a small motor and has to cut the lifespan of an engine that isn't turbocharged. I am NOT a fan of CVTs either.
Yeah it's an isolated issue like isolated in China 2 years ago
Hopefully yall will get more cars for long term reviews soon!
Yeah we hope so!
This was a great review and loving how they review their vehicles. I’m so torn on what car I want to buy. My dream vehicle is Audi Q5 but Honda CR-V seems to be more reliable, cheaper on maintenance and more fuel efficient. I need help cause I really want an Audi lol
Thanks!
Was debating Honda CR-V Hyb/Gas vs RAV4 Hybrid but no Cooled seats, heated rear seats, pano sunroof, 360 camera, slow 0-60 in the curb hyb, and gas mileage weren’t even close.
Awesome video as always! Congratulations on getting a press car! Who knows, maybe Ferrari will see you and give you F12’s someday! Y’all are awesome! Just curious, did your cat get to ride in it? Also, I’m just going to take a guess that the road trip you were referring to was Chicago for the auto show.😸😻😸
Haha yeah let's hope Ferrari sends us one some day! Our cat doesn't much like car rides so we didn't take her anywhere in the CR-V 😹
I’m an idiot. You said that in one of your other videos!🤦🏻
@@CarConfections I hope the honest factor in your videos don't disappear after joining the Press club. Heheehheehehhe.
First hand experience, don't waste money and time. Honda CRV is the best from the rest.
Good review but you did not mention about the infotainment/nav screen. I would be interested to know how well it performed and how responsive it is to use. This is an important area as much of what we need to do in the vehicle is viewed on the screens. Also, Nothing is said about the safety systems .... unless all of this is featured in another video ?
I still don't understand why Honda didn't upgrade that touch screen display. Many people in the past have complained that it looked outdated. Look at BMW & Mercedes and many other cars. They've updated theirs & why didn't Honda do same?
I wish Honda would have added a Panasonic sunroof, a new infotainment, and ventilated seats. Until Honda does that, I will pass on the CRV. I love it otherwise.
Love this car!
bring back the 2.4
The hybrid won't have a turbo.
@@les2997 Thank goodness.
They don't like making engines anymore that last forever.
Honda The Power Of Dreams no no no
Honda has oil problems
Looks good!!👍
Congratulations fellas!
Thank you 😊
Thanks for the review. I liked your attention to specific comfort issues such as seats and noise which to me are far more important than how headlights might look. I really like the overall feel of driving a CR-V but there is no getting away from the overall impression, whether it be Consumers Reports, JD Powers, anecdotal comments, that the reliability of modern Hondas have taken quite a hit in recent models. The cause is most probably management greed. I'm quite certain that Honda engineers and builders know how to do better but they are given absurd profitability objectives and it reveals itself over time. I'll probably end up buying a RAV4 because traditionally I choose less long-term problems over short term enjoyment. BTW, my friend's 2018 CR-V is exhibiting the parasitic battery drain problem and she would love to sell it. Her dealer is of no help and I was the one who had to research the potentially applicable service bulletin.
It may be interesting to note that, while all SUVs are utility vehicles and not sports cars, the 2020 Honda CR-V Touring AWD with the 1.5T engine has been tested at
Besides that rear tinted tail lamps & that face lift front bumper, nothing has really changed..... It's a pity..
At time lapse 14:30 the CVT Transmission noise is defening. There's No way that CRV is quieter than it's RAV4 counter part. My brother and his wife own a RAV4 and Avalon. The RAV4 has a traditional fluid transmission equipped from the factory. The CRV is standard with CVT Trans. Noooo it's not at all quieter than the rav4, and I'm a dedicated Honda Owner having had a 98 Civic, then moving up to a 02 Accord, and now a 2020 Pilot AWD EX-L.
I’m looking to buy a new car this year....CRV or RAV4. Should I wait for the 2021 models? Do we anticipate an update any time soon? I’d prefer to wait for an upgraded infotainment system. My heart wants a CRV....but my brain is telling me beware of the 1.5L turbo engine.
Given the usual 5 year product cycle, it is unlikely that either the RAV4 or CR-V get any substantial updates for 2021. An infotainment update COULD happen but it's highly unlikely
Car Confections thank you! That’s what I was afraid of.
What's up with the fraying rear seatbelt?
That's actually fuzz from my Mom's fur coat that got stuck to it. That's a very good observation though
@@CarConfections 😂
color is really nice
I should have waited for this, but I have CRV EXL 2018
You didn’t measure the decibels?
Loveeeee it!!!!!!
I had a CRV-EX and now drive a RAV4 XSE (hybrid). I would take the RAV every time. I am not a fan of the 1.5 liter engine and the CRV design is boring and uninteresting.
Well, considering this CRV is 4 years old, it would be Toyota's (in this case) obligation to come up with something more modern. The boring part is totally subjective as I find that RAV4 extremely boring in and out.
@@disco.lemonade I certainly wish you continued good luck with your CRV.
@@razminka.7522 love my CR-V. Thanks, you too
I bought Toyota Sienna’s from 1998-2018, only had a couple of problems, 1 major engine problem. I like Honda a bit better overall, you pay for the name with Toyota, labor rates are high but the costs of parts really gets you after awhile, can’t seem to get out of the dealership without paying at least $300. You can usually get 8,000km or so per oil change so that’s better than some other brands but Honda maintenance is only done when you need it, so you could get 14,000 out of your oil change on average. I’ve never had a repair issue with Honda, been buying them since 2012, and pay a lot less in vehicle costs overall when you factor in maintenance and the way they package the product if you bouhgt new.
Of course we love the design of the CR-V ever since Generation 2, RAV 4 is better now but it used to be really ugly. Both are manufactured locally here in Canada (Ontario) so they are both good options. Also, I would say that my only bad experience was when Toyota moved manufacturing from Japan to Atlanta, the engine belt snapped after 25,000 km and destroyed the engine, my next one was built in Ontario and I had no issues with it. We miss the size of the Sienna on some long trips, minivans are great for fmaily trips.
CRV looks rugged and sleek. Rav 4 looks like a fridge.
so where are we regarding the gas in oil issue?
We have a dedicated video on the subject, which you can find by searching 'Honda CR-V oil dilution'. Thanks for watching!
The same engine and the same oil dilution problem.
Love the sweater :)
Will you test the Tiguan? And maybe compare with CRV/Rav4
Hopefully soon!
Tiguan no way could touch this CRV.
Darn...too bad it doesn't have cooled seats unlike the new Accord Touring. :(
When r they going to do a full redesign
it's every 5 years, dude. for most of brands, so chill out would u?
@@disco.lemonade I am chill was just asking don't get so snappy
How can I fold the side mirror?
Why does the oil smell like gasoline?
Because you're in China with your CRV back in 2018

Whats the difference btwn the three
How is it better than the Mazda CX-5? Can you do a side by side comparison?
In some practical ways it is better than CX-5, like cargo and space, but dynamically and in luxury the CX-5 is the way to go
@@CarConfections I disagree. CRV is way classier , looks rich. And the CRV interior I would take over Mazda.
Great Review I like it but I would get the 2021 Equinox
With that 1.5 turbo trash engine, no thanks
not for me, going from a 2.4 to a 1.5 is night and day,,, it’s like going from a K-Car to Buddy Baker’s Oldsmobile Cutlass 5.7 L V8 4-4-2
Does remote-start, also start the air-conditioning ?
Yes
Oil dilution is standard equipment in 2020
The interior fit and finish is the lowest between Mazda Toyota and Honda. Seems cheaper. Granted, it is the oldest
TOO LITTLE TIME SPENT ON FAIRLY GOOD AUDIO SYSTEM 💼🚂.......
Similar colour to my Crosstrek.
Honda doesn’t back their products and their quality has gone way down. RAV4 is a better choice. Just saying.
What color is this CRV ?
Sonic Gray
@@CarConfections Thank You. I think that is my next car.
i wanna like it... but it looks so basic
First
You are foolish if you buy this car. The oil dilution problem is serious. It has not been fixed and is a problem on 2017 and newer CRVs and Civics. If you have one, sell it before everyone finds out about this issue. This engine won't last and you will be lucky to get 100k miles out of this engine. Of course, changing the oil every 3k miles will extend the life of the engine, but most people won't do this.
All new Kia Sorento much better choice 👍
I actually HATE the buttons on the steering wheel! AND the left back passenger seat belt. Such a stupid lay out!

The infotainment is really horrible looking
Which is best crv or rav4?
Kathy Smith RAV4. More equipment, more power, and doesn’t look absolutely hideous like the CRV.
@@mattX5
Apparently not everyone thinks the CR-V is hideous, otherwise it wouldn't sell in the large numbers that it does. Hideous is a bit of an overly dramatic way to describe a car. Personally, I would probably choose the RAV4 Adventure over the CR-V.
@@mattX5
So absolutely no one who buys a new CR-V, likes its exterior styling? I'm glad you can speak on behalf of other peoples opinions.
J High never said that. Maybe learn how to read. I said most people who buy a crv DONT CARE about its exterior styling. The fact that it’s ugly Is my opinion, get over yourself.
Rav4, no oil dilution
Bottom line, you get what you pay for. If you test out CRV and RAV4 side by side, the Toyota is much higher quality and feels firmer and more powerful. Aesthetically, the Toyota is nicer too, outside and in. Honda is way outdated. I’ll take the quality Toyota “softex” faux leather (that at least looks and feels good ) over that cheap plastic faux wood in the Crv. And forget Crv if you want to drive down anything more than a dirt driveway in a light mist.
Don't be a simple salesman.....talk about the elephant in the room. Google oil dilutions CRV engine. Sit down or shut up.
We just did a dedicated video on the subject! Do a search for 'oil dilution Honda' and you should find it. Also we did mention it in the video, which you'd know if you actually bothered watching it
Yeah we have to SEARCH for it. Don't make the consumer AWARE of the oil dillution problems. Just blame us for not digging deeper or reading the fine print. They flat out denied it for years and continue to claim it is a very isolated issue despite thousands of complaints. Do the right thing Honda and recall this engine. Keep you extended warranty! Im getting a Toyota.
Did you even bother to watch the video before you started ranting about the "elephant in the room"? Start at 16:00; they DID mention the oil dilution issue and they stated have a dedicated video on the oil dilution issue. You should take your own advice, but sit down AND shut up.
Also, who are the other 4 clowns that also didn't watch the video and gave the first idiot thumbs up?
@@vegasmooch ok..problems the CRV HAD? As if it is fixed?? Come on man....get real. NOTHING was FIXED with thier so called "software upgrade". Watch all the damn videos you want...same old bullshit lies from Honda. YOUR not not the one,..obviously stuck with one of their pieces of shit! 2200 miles in.. i should not be told by a Honda service tech that $35,000 later that is just the way it is and that they will fix it when it is completely broke and after theirlame ass extended warranty is over...or until I or my wife us stuck somewhere and someones safety is at risk. If Honda can have the actual balls to say they screwed up and take these cars back..then ok. But until then...F*ck you and F*ck Honda for not taking responsibility. Besides, Issues such as these should be priority one , NOT as an * or some small print at the bottom of the screen or in this case a "rumor"! Address it and OWN IT.
Seven days proves nothing to me at all. All I know is how many Honda owners were treated (or mistreated) over the oil dilution issue and that alone is reason enough for me to never buy another Honda.
I would buy a Mazda CX9 before I'd buy any Honda. (Or a Toyota Venza or Highlander.)
1.5 oil dilution GDI causes valves to carbon up and the CVT fails at 70000= LEMMON do your homework worst power train Honda ever made
