Mine was doing the exact same thing it was turning on but not registering any pitch when I tried to tune my guitar strings and following your video I opened it up and what I found was the spring needs to be centered on the little plastic shaped pen part next to the Piezo then I put it back together and it like brand new
I didn't exactly see where you put the spring and mine has the same amount of looseness for the top and bottom I do know that the Piezo should be showing a bit of copper in a circle when facing right side up

try both ways.
I had to shape some tin foil to put on copper disc to make connection-spring was bending and not making contact on its own. Thank you for video
