St James Station & Museum Station remind me so much of the London Tube. And the colour scheme of St James station is similar to Gloucester Road station in London.
I was rewatching The Matrix trilogy recently and realised that St James was used in a fair bit of those movies. In the third movie they jumped over the ticket barriers in the upper concourse during a chase, which was pretty cool. I also saw in one of the movies they had a shot of one of the stone viaduct bridges in Haymarket with a sliver of train on it and you could just make out the old CityRail logos on it.
@@Woodland26 Now you had me going down a rabbit hole. I hadn't thought about it before. All the trains in the Matrix are single deckers (with the exception of the snippet I described above). I've just had another look at the first and third train scenes and after googling historic rolling stock, I'd guess it's some dressed up U set stock, with potentially one car heavily modified for the third movie. I could be totally wrong though and could be stock from somewhere else.
@@Divadosaurus I just watched the scene again, you are right most likely a U set. I just remember it being stainless steel so thought it was S set. No overhead wire in the tunnel seen.
Yeah me to Phil, st James is like yesteryear, imagine a red rattler comming or a S set what dreams r made from, love to c a coffee shop squeeze in there with its character 👍👍👍
The middle two tracks and platforms of St James station were going to serve as part of an Eastern Suburbs line. This particular plan obviously didn't eventuate. But the Eastern Suburbs line did eventuate in the late 1970s after many false starts. But it runs through Town Hall rather than St James.
This nearly 80 year old can remember when St James was the end of the line. As far I remember there were not tracks between the platforms platforms platforms .
Phil back in 2011 had you heard movie cold the tunnel it was film here in Sydney at st James station but it a horror movie. Oh and yesterday morning i got Oscar west ryde to medeowbank.
One of my favourites too. Besides it being so beautiful and historic, I love that there’s hidden tunnels - and the history around them. I’ve wandered around the mid section of the station and wondered what could’ve been a few times.
St James was a terminating station before Circular Quay was built. Was the centre 2 tracks ever used for termination of trains and turn back? Is there any cross over points seeing the 2 tunnels are quite far apart? I remember St James before conversion the 2 empty centre platforms.
No, it was envisaged that there would be lines out to the east, but those tunnels were never used. No tracks on them. The eastern line didn't end up going via St James. I remember before the platforms were filled in to make one large platform.
From Wikipedia... Part of the Bradfield Plan, St James station was originally intended to be a major interchange with the Eastern Suburbs line[4] on Sydney's underground rail system. Plans for the construction of St James included railway lines in four directions, but the original plan was never completed due to disagreements over the routes.[4] Four platforms were completed, but the two inner platforms, intended to support Bradfield's proposed eastern and western suburbs lines, were never put into service.[5] When the Eastern Suburbs line was eventually built it was done so via a different route via Town Hall. In the 1990s, the two island platforms were connected by filling in the space between the two inner platforms, resulting in the single, large island platform seen today.
Hey I have a few questions 1st questions when will the d set start in kiama 2nd questions I heard we getting the new regional train in Bomaderry and and all that and final questions will a Metro come down toward Wollongong just wondering thanks

Before I ever saw the London Tube, Museum and St James were my favourite Sydney stations, because they were what I imagined the Tube looked like.

I used to pass through St James station when I used to work in the city in the late eighties.

This is great! I don't know as much about St James as everyone else in the comments but I love your filming style and this production! Great job🎉🎉🎉😊

My two favorite stations in Sydney.
Wonder what’s the history behind the development of these two unique stations on the City Circle?
Woohoo! I’m early for once!
I always felt St James was a spooky one
