It's a walk-the-dog lure do some wrist gentle continuous tightening movement with a loosed line that you gently reel constantly. It go side ways in a S movement. I got a big zara spook 6'' that make noise it wakes everything around and make them go up then going crazy about the action it makes.

I noticed you were leaving your expensive reel and rod on the rock… doesn't that leave any scratch on the reel spool ? What pound braid line and leader are on the heavy set to pull that kind a fish?

Amazing fishing! Great job getting those fish in. Here is a tip for everyone else. These conditions are a bit rough but as you reel in your lure and you are running out of water pause for a half second, then twitch it like it's wounded!

We have a fish here in San Diego nearly identical species called California Yellowtail, hard fighting and great tasting. Never that close to shore though.
Landing one in California or Mexico will give you a shit eating grin all day!
