  • One of the most polarizing players of the modern era, David Luiz's career has as many highlights as it does low lights. And most likely you either think he is a world-class defender, or an overrated mistake waiting to happen? So let's take a look past the flowing locks and see how good he was, really.

Can’t believe this only has 4.7k views, what a video. I’m brazilian and unfortunately people never really talked a lot about David Luiz, or any centre-backs really. Both David and Thiago were a deadly duo at the world cup snd should be talked a lot more about. Thanks for giving my boy the credit he deserves. 🇧🇷❤️

He was great for us but left the club twice when we could have really used him so it leaves a slightly bitter feeling. I don´t really blame him it just is.
Still imagine if we saw Luiz and Silva partnership at Chelsea with Chillwell and Reace on either side of them when Tuchel was coaching.

I really don’t know what happened to him. I guess after Brazil things weren’t the same. Still, he’s my favorite player.

he is prone to injury now but he has some memorable games in brazil like the game against an unstopable hulk. plus he keeps helping the youngsters in flamengo. they say not only does he give them advice about how to deal with success, the dangers of partying too much and drugs etc. but also creates a schedule for them to follow, work with them extra hours and even in his home gym. when they won the libertadores, the champions league of south america for the second time in 40 years, they gave him much credit for the off pitch work. I hope he does well this new season.

Good video and commentary. I think the 4 errors in his PL career are a bit of disguising. He was constantly being called out for being nowhere where he should have been positionally multiple times. Those were the "errors" people were concerned about.
A unique player who brought randomness with his style. But when it came to crunch matches where you knew you had to defend he was a player you did not want to see a player like Luiz on the team sheet at CB. Like Trent, all looks great when you're in a dominant team and can express your attacking strengths, but when they need to lean into their defensive abilities, they are many times found lacking.
Give me a defender who is world class in what he is supposed to do. Leave the shooting, passing, and dribbling to the midfielders and attackers.

True, the main reason he got by was because he played in dominant teams that went into most matches as the favourite.
