Not sure why people are calling Dan boring. He's calm, collected and a great golfer. His calmness is something I wish I had on course. He's not a UA-camr, he's not a celebrity, he's a very talented young golfer who just struggles to put his thoughts into words because it comes naturally to him after all his years of hard work. Imagine someone jumped in your car and asked you to explain exactly what you're doing as you drive. The bunker and flop shot tips are getting tested ASAP! Cheers
Really enjoyed this...made the game look so effortless. Please can we have more of these type of vlogs because most of us don’t have the chance to get an insight into a pros thought process and course management.
What I loved about the video is how Dan doesn't let any doubt come into his thinking before he hits his shots. He visualizes the shot....knows that he has hit the shot countless times before...and then let's muscle memory take over and makes the swing necessary to complete the shot! I know even when I was carrying a 4...I was always questioning myself on certain shots... especially ones where I needed to hit a draw, or a low shot into the wind. Once the practice range is back open, I know what I need to work on... visualizing each shot on the range instead of just hacking balls down range!!!! One of the best videos ever Liam!!! Big thanks for Dan letting us in on how his mind works when playing!! 👍👍👍👍👍
This video is pure "Gold" and what a player Dan is. He has such a good smooth swing, just class and those flop shots, unbelievable. The insight players like this give to handicap players on course management is just great but of course Dan has the talent as well to carry out the shots he visualises. What a player. Thanks to Liam for bringing Dan on the chanel again and Joe, once again wonderful production....
I understand I’m commenting to an old vid. Oh well … I don’t see this the same as many. I didn’t once see the pro golfer as boring or dry. I was in awe. He was just super focused and serious and matter-of-fact. And he was oozing confidence. I mean … it was the purpose of the vid, to show the difference between a +3 and a 10 or 16 hcp. Now we see … it’s miles difference. Loved the video, Liam.
This video has transformed my putting! In the past I’d have seen my putt going in at 5am. Since changing to pm times like Daniel I’ve seen huge improvements! Great vid, thank you.
Best bunker tip for me. Dan Gavins has just got another golfmate fan in the US. I actually drank a cold beer while watching my wife drank tea but she couldn’t see the video.
Certainly would like to see more of this sort of thing. The difference is mostly mental approach (though obviously it helps if you can crash it 280+!). Positive thoughts, trusting your skills and imagining seeing good shots - it all helps.
First time ever I've heard about the wee finger on flop shots, 45 years 🤷♂️class display of playing good golf and having the confidence to see the shot and execute it too 👏👏
the red line did it for me, see it hit it. That's gold. The bunker shot was the absolute simplest way to achieve getting out every single time. Awesome lessons right there :)
I liked that one too. I've used a line to get better at ball striking and I've used a line two inches behind the ball in the bunker, but I haven't practiced it his way and it looks perfect for practice the backyard.
One of the best vids you have put out. I guarantee even Dan learned from that. Actually talking through your process out loud is a common practise for top sports people
loved the video! I found Dan to be a sound Bloke who I would play a round with any day, despite him having to wait for me digging my ball out of the rough every five minutes. Keep up the great vids mate.. Top notch
Thankyou Daniel son you’ve given this old grasshopper a few new ideas to play the game I’ve been playing for 40yrs off and on so you can teach old dogs new tricks ⛳️🏌🏻♂️👌👌
Course management is brilliant, the amount of risks I unecessarily take on the course and don't even have the ability to carry out these shots😂 he makes everything very simple. Great video 👍
Best video you have uploaded in my opinion. The pro spoke more, which is important as that's what the video is about. Great video, more like this please
I love these knowledge video's, Dan is a straight talker and he grew as the video progressed. I love the regulars for the chatter and £5 comps but as someone who needs tips this type of video is more helpful....thanks Dan and Liam.
It is so contrasting in what the pros think and what we amateurs think. We put all ours thoughts into what not to do while the pros are visualizing the shot and how to pull it off. Daniel gave us some great tips there. Thanks Daniel and Liam.
Great bunker tip. But not only did he miss the fairway, but he mist that birdie putt. Class that. Certainly made me chuckle. Great stuff Liam, brilliant
This is brilliant stuff being inside the mind of a pro. Daniel is a class guy and generous to give us his time. Liam you've just made one of my top favorite videos of yours, and not a giggle in sight. 👍Thanks to you both.
That was the dogs. Great insight into how a pro looks at things rather than we mere mortals. Great tips to take on course . Loved it. Some serious but very relevant points for all of us
He plays a completely different game to me!! Brilliant tips for us normals though, another great video mate. We need mr Barlow to show us how he hits the pitching wedge to two feet without it leaving the ground next!
In a word...Class! lovely swing, and with that comes confidence which you can tell all the best players have, calmness too, almost an arrogance in a good way, they know they're good.....enjoyed that, again...class!
VG tips on bunkers and the flop shot. Major differences between pro’s and us amateurs is their course management. U R correct Liam, us amateurs could get our HC down a lot further if we applied correct course management. That’s why OMP is off 11 at 80 yrs of age.
This is probably one of the most useful videos I’ve seen. Very in depth and in the mind of a good player. Can help people shave strokes without making any swing changes
Thx to Dan for his time and you Liam for making that video. Loved Dan’s laid back comments and keeping it simple to understand. Would be great to see more like that and learning how to think and visualise around the course.
One thing I would add to the bunker lesson; its an all arms shot, keep your lower body quiet through the swing, you open your stance at address to mimic where your lower body would be at impact of a full swing, but the swing itself is mostly arms. I use this same concept for flop shots and I get relatively positive results.
Probably the best golf related video I've ever watched (and I've watched alot). I love the rationale behind all the shots - how, why and the expectations of what will happen after. In depth knowledge of a scratch player is something we don't ever get, brill.
I’ve laughed so hard at Liam being mind blown...I’m a +1.8 so this is pretty much my game plan and Liam is just gobsmacked....and for some reason it’s cracking me up
How laid back is the Pro fabulous to listen to how he manages the course. Great blog and learned so much. Playing tomorrow and will put a lot of his comments into my game.
This shows us amateurs just how different our course management, targets and club selection is than Tour pros. His calm demeanor and thought process is superb as well as his outcome expectations. Ex. I would have been giddy as hell over the last lob shot to the hole, but he was quite disappointed. Cheers.
Dan giving his thoughts to how he plays the hole is brilliant and his tips from the bunker and behind - I will be practicing them tomorrow ( being a 23 h/c I like the tip with the little finger on top of the club)
Pitching out of the rough: If grass gets between t'clubface and t'ball, the ball will come out hot with less backspin because the grass prevents the grooves from doing their job i.e. the grass stops t'grooves from grabbing t'ball. So t'ball will release more when it lands. In this case, t'ball was lying well, and the ball came out soft because there was little or no grass between t'face and t'ball. Most of us mortals just want to get t'ball onto t'green or at least leave a good miss for a chip and a putt.
I think Dan is brilliant! The perfect balance to your lunacy! It's like a young OMP - dry as you want - not phased by the bad shots so can't start doing somersaults on the worldies! We can all learn something from some of those tips! That flop shot was unreal!!
In all honesty I think the video is absolutely class. It clearly demonstrates the difference between the thought process of a good player to average player. Obviously trusting your ability as appose to fearing it, or remembering that bad shot - “don’t what to hit that again”. I think more video’s like this are really going to help the not so good golfer like me. Thank you 👍

@@adiw9417 ... Hi Adi, personally ... anything that's under 6500 (par 72) off the back tees. I like Aldeburgh (in the UK). At 6600 it doesn't seem long. Until you see it's a par 68, has no par 5s. The standard scratch score for there is five over par. It is tight, there's loads of gorse and the wind can howl. In short it's bastardly tough.
@@stevenchampion8137 yea its crazy how the pros can make easy work of courses under 6500 yards my course in Nottingham has a course recored of 64 par 71 would love to see a tour pro on there i bet 59 easy
Great stuff guys. Dan is very confident and his explanations are what amateurs like me need. Simple and uncomplicated. He doesn't half send those drives on there way lol !
Great video, I think Dan knows how good he is and doesn't mind telling anyone which is great for us ordinary golfers, I think the takeaway from this video is believe in yourself 100% . Build it and they will come!
Dan is a class act and a decent fella all round... Good to see how a tour pro approaches each hole and then breaks down the reasons for each shot choice
I've watched a lot of video of low handicappers and their mind set..... the one thing that always occurs to me is how little they seem to enjoy the game. It all becomes too perfect.
@@GolfMates I get Adam's post though. I work with a fella who was a 2 handicap golfer. He stopped playing because he said the difference with his game and mine (19 handicapper) was, where I could have a few really bad holes but still post a decent net total, his whole card could be ruined if he had a really bad hole. It got to the point where it messed with his head and he stopped playing. (Obviously, he wasn't a tour pro, but played at a decent amateur level). His enjoyment disappeared completely and he hasn't played for 10 + years.
Dan is class. Between his bunker advise, and OMP bunker advise (putter if no lip), I should get out of 2/3 of my bunkers better than before. Great video. Best of luck to Dan on his career.
That's not necessarily miserable. I could be playing the game of my life and be absolutely elated and still speak relatively blandly if I wasn't that interested in the video.
I have started looking back at some of these videos and WOW did I get a lot out of this one. My son also loved it who is looking at playing golf for a living but has some work to do but the mind set of the Am golfer in comparison to the Pro is great to listen to. have go from the fairwayI geta par and move on .................brilliant thank you. good luck to Dan G in 2022.
Interesting, 95% of all golfers hardly reach more than 250 yards with their driver, but 95% of all UA-cam recommendations regarding the driver are aimed at the 5% who hit further than 250 yards. 🤣😂🤣
I would think more like 5% can't hit 300 plus. If you're watching golf on UA-cam I would think you're at least a decent golfer. 250 yards is a very responsible number for most.
If you think about it, this guy is really good not just from the shots he is playing but the fact that he is doing ith all while interviewing and showing golf tips.
Majority of really good amateur golfers and lower level pros have the personality of a cucumber. Especially if they’ve played for england, they’ll quickly drill any personality out of anyone the boring fuckers 😂
The most successful people in any area of life are selfish, narcissistic, arseholes. If you believe that a successful life means being the best at some thing.
adrian lawson I guess it depends how you define success. I’ve met many successful people who aren’t, but golf seems to produce more of these arseholes than many other sports, probably due to the fact most people who are at elite levels of golf are middle/upper class and have grown up with a silver spoon up their arse.
The Bunker tip was one of the best I've seen. That will be in my mind on my next round. Visualizing a line in the sand in something we all can achieve. Everything else that Daniel has done was something I've had dreams about, but then of course, I wake up! Kevin O'Rourke

I bet a full round with Dan is laugh a minute
Laugh an hour more like😄
John Lucas an hour once a week by the sound of it
One of the best videos I have seen on the channel absolutely fantastic brilliant Liam Dan Joe
Thank you
Why is this guy so miserable. Scratch golfer and can play golf for a living. Dream job for me
Miserable, I stopped half way
That's not necessarily miserable. I could be playing the game of my life and be absolutely elated and still speak relatively blandly if I wasn't that interested in the video.
Not miserable. Just English.
Absolutely true
I would think more like 5% can't hit 300 plus. If you're watching golf on UA-cam I would think you're at least a decent golfer. 250 yards is a very responsible number for most.
How does watching golf on UA-cam make you a decent golfer?
@@scottmcbeth5731 Because you care enough to try and improve your game.
If you can't hit your driver over 250 yards then you should watch videos on how to hit your driver correctly. Not on how to be a scratch golfer.
If you think about it, this guy is really good not just from the shots he is playing but the fact that he is doing ith all while interviewing and showing golf tips.
God he seems like a barrel of laughs don’t he 🙄😂😂 guess that’s the difference to why he’s good and I’m shit. Takes its seriously 🙈
Majority of really good amateur golfers and lower level pros have the personality of a cucumber. Especially if they’ve played for england, they’ll quickly drill any personality out of anyone the boring fuckers 😂
@@mylesd6099 Point out to me the 10 best golfers in any club and I'll point out to you 9/10 of the clubs biggest ar****les.
robroy236 yep, always the same. Golf has produced some of the biggest knobheads I’ve ever met in life.
Thank you
Yes,I play my best golf when I am asleep too !
