Hi all golfmates.
I hope you enjoyed the video and I hope I was a little helpful.
Thanks for all your comments .
But for proper advice see a pro.
Omp
Hero
Good, solid course management, and common sense. Thanks mate.
All your experiences in golf better advice from you than any pro it easy when you have ability but it even easier if you have the brain
You are the pro
Legend
The main thing is that this gentlemen plays with no stress in his game, he is completely calm and knows exactly what percentage shots are in his game and executes them.
Brill video. Go OMP! Just a little tip I've picked up in my 50 yrs of playing golf. When chipping around the green or over greenside bunkers as in video get the ball onto and running on the green as soon as possible. Choose the area you want the ball to land on the green stride it out (say its 4 strides) then stride out distance from there to the pin (say 12 strides) divide the 12 by the 4 = 3 so it's a ratio of 3:1. In other words ball needs to travel 3 times distance you land the ball. So for arguments sake 3:1 would be your 8 iron then just work from there. 4:1 7 iron 2:1 9 iron 1:1 pw. Obviously these will be different for each person and to take into account slope pace of greens etc. But beauty is you need only one shot just change clubs. Sorry if a bit long winded hope I made it easy to understand.
Love seeing Omp on the course he's like gandalf the great with all his knowledge !!
Love to see Pat caddy for you over 5 holes; I think everyone including yourself would learn a lot from it.
Great to see Pat back on the channel again.
Actually, why not make two videos with Pat caddying 9 holes and then check the score you, Liam, can get with his help - maybe compare it to a previous round on your own (just a score card needed) and then talk about the differences in a third video, ey?
Not sure omp could control shanker Harrison lol
OMP is the Jimmy White of golf no messing on,walks up to the ball one practice and POW shot taken.Hes a joy to watch.great video Liam.
The BEST part of this channel is that it is teaching me to let go of my ego and just do what I can do. I've started using his course planning tips and I've shaved 3 strokes off my weekly average in just this first week.
I’ve paid hundreds to shave 3 strokes from my game. You can’t get better value than this.
I would love to see Liam play his normal game and Omp play his way with both critiquing the other's play and strategy. Omp is always a great video.
Love watching OMP us useful golfing instructions. I personally use some of them every time I'm out on the course. Keep them coming. Also just love watching him in the relaxed way he plays. No stress golfing.
A lot of golfers would pay hundreds of pounds/dollars/ Euros to gain a couple of shots and yet us lucky Golf Mates get world wise tips for free. Really appreciate everything you do and OMP is a gentlemen for helping out. I hope to be enjoying watching him play for years to come.
Absolutely free of charge
Brilliant Liam/OMP That's the best "lower your handicap" video I've ever seen on youtube. Easy to follow .....and so so right! More of the same kind of content would be welcome!
You've done it again Golf Mates, another great video.
I'm a 26 handicap striving to get to 18 and this video basically said to me "leave your ego in the car park and play to your ability".
Sound advice from a wise man, thanks gents.
Absolutely and that will lose you shits
Sorry shots
@@GolfMates Ha ha, going for "Hero" shots is how you lose your shits🤣
OMP is great to watch. I use some of his tips and lowered my handicap by 4 strokes. The putting lineup tip and chipping with 7 iron have really helped. Since I can't constantly hit the ball straight like Pat I would like to see a video with slow motion of his swing. Information with hand placement, grip pressure, swing alignment etc. Yes I would like to emulate his swing or parts of it if I can. Thanks for all the great videos, I am going to practice the scoppie whoppie now.
Great video. Omp plays smart golf because he plays within his limits. As you get older you loose distance so you play for position and having an 11 handicap proves it works.
Love how he set up that he's gonna 1 over the first hole because it's hard then pat just sinks it from that distance. This has gotta be my fav golf channel at the moment!
Love all the videos with OMP. I learned course management from a 92 year old player who began shooting his age at 68. He was a wealth of information and gave great insight into strategy of the game. OMP and Him would’ve been great friends. I’m sure Jake has played every day since he made his way to the Pearly Gates.
Great to see pops back i can def vouch that if you play likeomp it works im down from 18 to 12 this man is a legend play like him and golf is fun more importantly what a man what a player and a legend xx 👏
Xx
OMP has helped me more than any other golfer on you tube. 👍🏽🏌️♂️
Fantastic knowledge of course management from OMP. Brilliant.
OMP is brilliant. Very knowledgeable, and as a very high handicapper I can totally relate with his playing style. Nice and relaxed as well.
Very interesting Liam. You'd be wise to take notice of OMP who plays to his realistic expectations and is rewarded. We can all attempt shots beyond where the talent runs out. I played off 3 at 16 but that was nearly 50 years ago. I accept I can't bomb it and never will but I try to play to my strengths.
I'm 68 and have taken a lot from this video. Watching OMP and his effortless swing has encouraged me to follow suit. Always wanting to smash the golf ball, and knowing that I shouldn't, I can see the sense in the abbreviated swing by OMP. Once we can get back onto the golf course here in Victoria, Australia (currently in lock-down), I will definitely adopt OMP's practice and see how I go. Thanks for great down to earth, uncomplicated vlogs Liam. I enjoy watching them.
OMP is the master - liked the golf tips by OMP. Keep up the great videos. Would like to see OMP play with Young Josh - old vs young - would be fun!!
Glad to see you back OMP
OMP sensible oldhead steering round the course down the middle, i make all the rookie mistakes hitting the ball as far as possible as the ego kicks in, watching and listening to OMP is a breath of fresh air and makes the game simple, had a smile on my face watching OMP putting in that video, well done. Well played Pat.
Thank you
Playing off 19 I find my course management to be one of the most inconsistent parts of my game. Green/Amber/Red is the way to go, but I tend to forget sometimes and go for the 'hero' shot, that one shot I've only ever hit once before, on the range, which then messes with my head. Already been using a 7 to chip and run instead of my 60 (64 is not consigned to the shed) and saved me on more than 1 occasion. Yes, I am also having lessons locally (Sheffield). Keep up the good work Golf Mates!
Love watching OMP. Great tips & invaluable advice that would help the majority of golfers. Has to be the best golfer on UA-cam.
I love these type of videos. I try and incorporate parts of them into my game. I play off 19 and have started slowing my game down using the what would omp do and playing safe. I'm not a pro so no point in trying to play like one. I play bogey golf, more than happy with a bogey on a hold because I get a shot
I am reminded of the quote...."Good decisions come from experience, BAD decisions on the other hand make the experience." Love the way OMP imparts his knowledge, thanks Liam, and to all that contribute to the channel. Love the banter.Cheers
I like the way OMP manages the course with what his game can do, he never hits a shot he can't pull off. When I first started to play golf a "coffin dodger" gave me the best tip ever. Play the hole backwards; he said to find your best yardage for the approach shot then subtract that from the hole yardage and then hit the club that gets you to point "A". i.e. 380 yd par four and I want 125 yds for the approach (perfect pitching wedge for me) so my tee shot needs to ~255 yds , so a 3 wood or 2 iron depending on wind and ground conditions. This helped me immensely as I struggled then and do now with shots less than 100 yds. I hope that helps good luck.
Liam. This is literally the best video you have ever done. OMP is full ok crazy knowledge. I am a 12.9 HC and I hit the ball a mile. However, I’m the “mid hc guy” that you referred to. I tried OMPs style my last time out and literally dropped 6 shots. Last week I hit a 91, this week 85. Beauty. Keep it up and get over to Canada you cheeky Sods
An absolutely brilliant pal
Absolutely great advice from the best golfer on UA-cam glad to see OMP back
Thank you
OMP s course strategy is key to his brilliance on course.Glad he s been filmed for posterity.Good man.
OMP is a golfing robot. I'd have loved to see him on the Scotland road trip with you.
Thank you
Imagine him in his younger days.
Used the OMP’S way of playing for my last 3 rounds of our medal season. Took a lot of 3 woods of the tee, got called a big Jessie for doing so, didn’t go for any Phil Mickleson shots! Chipped around the greens with my 8 iron, got my best 3 scores of the year! I’m going to continue to use his way of playing next season to see if I can reach my goal of being a single figure handicap? Playing off 14 at the moment. Thank you OMP & Liam.
love it, wish we could all be that level headed when we're stood over the ball.
Absolutely he is mr cool
OMP the legend, every thing he says makes sense to me, don't be greedy is the main one. Don't try to spank the cover off the ball. And use some course management, all the things I don't do, I always think I'm better than I am, I will try to follow pats advice. He makes it look so easy. Wonderful to watch, never get tired of watching him play, and Liam you could do with listening to pat's tips a to tonk Barlow. 😂😂 Stay safe golf mates ⛳👍🏴
Great golf knowledge and course management. Well in OMP!
Excellent video from Old Man Pat. He is a good golfer who has worked it out. He knows where to hit to and not. He also plays to his handicap. I would like to see more of these video which will provide me with knowledge of how the game should be played.
I’d like to see a video about how OMP strikes his woods on 2nd shot. The swing mechanics would help me.
Hi Liam. Dropped 4 shots on my round today following OMPs advice. I'm shooting in the low 90's now and am awaiting my handicap. I'm a member of a golf club but am unsure of joining a competition because I don't know how they work. Can you do a video for that? Any more tips are greatly received. Love where the channel is going and I've supported YMJ on his channel. Look us up if your down in the South East
OMP makes it so easy listen to OMP Liam need more of this
Brilliant video guys.... OMP is a mine of sensible information.... I think it’s a great idea to do a video with him being your caddy Liam.... real nuggets of wisdom and really common sense when you think about it. The best piece of advice I’ve ever heard was “ play the shots yo can do, and not the shots you think you can do” cheers lads 🍻🍻
Great to see Golf Mates playing at Chorlton!
Thank you
hmmmmmmmmm interesting comment. i must say it’s very insightful.
Course management is the best way to go.....think before each shot....visualized exactly how and where you are going to hit the ball in the fairway plus around the green's....greetings from across the big pond from a fellow GolfMate....
Thank you rocky
Would love to see OMP caddy for ya, would be interesting to see what different shots he would make you play, OMP is a legend and makes the game look so easy, I give my mates much the same tips and then they go and do opposite and then wonder why I end up beating them by like 10 shots or more,
Absolutely we going to do it
Golf Mates Orsm news, can’t wait for the video, also can’t wait for the scramble video
Fantastic golf brain, would be fantastic coach for junior golfers. His knowledge, temperament and experience is unbelievable. Would love a series where someone is knew to golf, the 2 of ye bring them under your wing, pat with tee shot selection, irons and see how they grow. Liams short game and putting would improve any beginners experience. Fantastic video, brilliant channel and the best golf community on UA-cam. Pleasure to watch!
Brilliant Liam.
The return of OB 1 aka OMP.
Listen and learn Liam Skywalker.
Mr Barlow use the fork.
Stay safe and stay well
Thanks.
Lol thank you David
The best thing Golf Mates has shown me is this...I can hit long...But why.....It is short game and putting...We can all boom it...Hard left / Right.....Why...We all get there in 2 3 or 4...But it's the chips and putts to work on ....We are all same tee to green...Omp Please have a lesson on your chipping and putting....We are not Pro's just need help in this area. Thanks Liam and Pat
Sound advise as always, what a man OMP, gentleman
Love these videos when picking good players brains. Course management is the difference between a high an low handicapper.
Omp is a legend. Love the 2nd hole when you said we are going to put you in a spot you've never been. But I've seen Barlow and Liam right of that fairway many times😂😂😂
One of the smartest players i have ever seen. he teaches me strategy every time i watch OMP! Due to back injuries and metal in my legs i have difficult time with distance like when i was a younger lad. This kind of information give me hope for my 190 to 200 yard drives. I dont play a 3 wood off the deck well so i may need to look at a 5 iron or improving my hybrid play.
OMP living legend ⛳
So good to see OMP back on the channel he talks so much sense and makes the shots seem so easy
I can see it now “OMP the 7th best caddie on the European tour”.
Ha ha
@@GolfMates Can you see Pat giving the traffic light to Phil Michelson ....Number 2 on the bag...
He'd need another person to carry the bag though! Lol.
@@dylanharrington744 He may just surprise you! Old guys have a tendency to be under estimated.
I started playing golf 3 months ago, and just found your channel. I been using Pat's strategy and has helped me make more pars and single bogey's! I wish I could hit the driver and 3 wood like Pat!
OMP should be on the Golf Channel, or Sky golf coverage - real golf tips for real golfers!
Absolutely here here
Just discovered your videos. So smart..it makes so much sense!
Was a single digit golfer who didn' t pick up a club for 7-8 years. This helps me get a decent handicap back. I'm 63.
Great to see OMP, his tips are great for course management, I use his technique for putting where you pick a target, I sunk a 35ft putt for birdie yesterday using that one, Thanks OMP, Great vids Liam, keep up the great work, oh and it would be great to see OMP caddie for you
Thank you
Another brilliant video Liam. And thanks OMP for helping us. Bet you have the best fun! ⛳
I was a heigh heigh handy cap golfer after watching omp’s first Video like this I dropped to a heigh handy cap I honestly lost 15 shots a round off I now shoot around 95-100 still a long way to
Absolutely brilliant
OMP agrees with Sam Snead, Gary Player, et. al., who all said amateurs should chip with as little loft as possible so as to get the ball on the ground and running. Those three guys know a little something...great video! Thanks!
I want a 20 minute video of Pat saying "correct" over and over again.
your OMP videos keep getting better, I learn EVERY time. thanks
We could watch OMP everyday
OMP the calm voice of experience, excellent video tons of useful knowledge and a great insight into how toy keep your mind in the right place, what an absolute gentleman as well
Lee Trevino: "If you can pull off the shot you are about to choose 7 times out of 10, do it. Otherwise, choose a different club/shot."
These are excellent tips from OMP. I was a very long hitter off the tee for many years...but my handicap went from mid to high teens to single digits by employing similar strategies to keep myself from making big scores. I learned to hit into the areas that the course architect designed into the layout that would give me the easiest shot into the greens. The course's I played were much longer, but the principles are still the same. Now that I am in my 60's...I play much more conservatively...and will try to apply OMP's tips to try to get my handicap down from a 15 to an 11 or 12.
My big problem is getting a good connection. Either topping the ball, or hitting the ground before the ball. This is keeping me at a 20 handicap. 🤔😤😭
Less power, less strain and keep your eye on the ball.
I think the idea of Pat 'caddying' for higher handicap players is a gem...When your handicap is above 18, inconsistency is a huge issue and if you can remove that, you're half way to getting to a sub-18 handicap.. Well done gents for another insightful and enjoyable video.
🔥🔥🔥 O M P 🔥🔥🔥 Enough said
Yes, more of these videos please. I am 71 and Pat is my hero!
Played CCH yesterday for the first time and played OMP style and broke 90 for the first time! Great tips!
I appreciate the tips passed along by OMP. The more the better.
I absolutely love all the videos with OMP. Could watch and listen to him all day.
Hope your well pal
Took the OMP process today and hit best score in last ten rounds, definitely saving at least three shots. Great video and much appreciated in helping with the mental side of the game.
Love, love, love this video. Even low handicappers can learn from this as Pat shows on the first hole. It proves the game is called Golf, not ball striking or "who can hit furthest"
OMP wonderful, common sense advice that I MUST follow. One of the best golf videos on YOU Tube.
Please can we have more of these EXCELLENT, very helpful videos.
Thank you.
Love to see the mechanics of Pats swing - short but he always seems to make solid straight contact with very little effort. Great instructional vids.
Hi Golfmates
I have been a golf mate for some time now and really enjoy your videos. I just want to compliment you on the video editing as I edit videos myself. I know it takes allot of time and energy. The way this channel is growing is amazing and I am proud to be called a Golfmate.
Thank you marlo
More please! OMP has the knowledge we all need
Played a round tonight using OMPs advice, shot my best 18 on the course, took 6 shots of my usual rounds.
Pat you are a LEGEND.
Herov
Fantastic. I was off 11, now off 19. I’m only 51 so I can take this into account once we are back golfing. Cheers guys!
Brilliant Pat. Great advice. Chipping around the greens... technique wise. Please Liam.
What a brilliant video. I play off 12 and would seriously have played the red light shot on all of those holes. I would def have gone out of bounds and shot 9 on at least one of the holes. So so simple, well OMP made it look simple, but the best course management vlog I have seen. Def taking that ethos to course next time. Low tariff, more enjoyment, better scores, what's not to like? Great stuff
Thank you
That’s genuinely a joy to watch. When so many of us set up and take so long to hit a ball he’s just pretty much stepping up and taking the shot and executing it pretty much every time and most of us would be pleased with his shots even if we can hit longer. Hats off old chap 🧢
Good video my dad has always said to me play percentage golf and seems Pat plays that way and proves it works. I just tend to struggle with knock down shots when in between clubs. I’m currently off 22 only been playing consistently for the last couple months and given myself a target of getting near single figures in 2 years
Something we have lost over the years, respect and listening to our elders experience, take my hat off to you,and this is for me a giant learning lesson.
I’ve been watching a UA-cam Vlogger called Sidekick. He does a lot of videos on course management and stress free golf. He very much teaches the same strategy as OMP. Thinking your way around the course and playing to your ability really can save a lot of shots. The biggest tip I have learned is that any approach shot over a yardage I’m not confident with I will play to around a 100 yards lay up (200 yards approach = 2 x 100 yards shots). It’s made a huge difference to my scores.
Caddie Pat ..absolutely!!
Would love it🧙♂️ so glad to see another OMP video , cheers🍻
I learn a lot from OMP. Please do more like this. Yes Liam, listen to OMP as your caddy. You often blame your miss hits on wind that is not blowing. OMP is a legend. Thanks.
Watching OMP has helped my game so much. Made me realize that you don't need to swing hard and hit the ball far. Better to swing easy and control your aim. More please.
What a gentleman. Pure class. 👍👍👍
That first putt was fantastic 👌👌🏌️🏌️
Brilliant advice. I've started to realise that I'm not skilled enough for fancy shots, and playing safer shots has reduced my score. Thank you OMP and Liam for all you share.
Wisdom from the legend. Great video thanks to Liam and OMP.
Marvellous video. So simple yet a multi shot saver nice one OMP❤️
Missed in the right spot is probably the most important thing for mid to high cappers. I can't tell you how many times I've missed in the WRONG spot. Watching you and OMP play golf is a great golf lesson. I've stopped banging balls at the range and started to focus entirely on short game.
Absolutely a must
Total respect,i take to many risks, because I think I can get on a par 4 in two,but after watching omp I'm definitely going to take his advice, and play smart.
So nice to watch & learn from OMP. Thank you!
