Thank you this is very helpful. I had a possible eustacian tube blockage that took a 6 weeks to get better, then had three months of good hearing. Then suddenly I've had tinnitus in my right ear alone and been very anxious and felt disoriented and worried and wanted an MRI scan as I am an anxious person. Thank you for explaning it all so thoroughly and reassuringly.

Had an MRI no findings, CT normal, blood work perfect, EKG normal. My tinnitus is so bad it drives my anxiety through the ceiling. I'm wondering if it's something else but all the doctors are telling me it's my inner ear.
I have had Tinnitus suddenly appear in my left ear only since Nov or thereabouts of 2021. Had a hearing test which wasn't conducted properly as trainee audilogist did the test. I was referred for a MRI but am a bit frightened to have it done. Anyway, had no pain either in ear or head nor dizziness. Yet now lately wake up with frontal lobe head pressure, with slight pain but never had a migraine. The Tinnitus is constant in my left ear only. I don't sleep properly either, the Tinnitus is more acute at night too.
Just to say i have constant tinitus in both ears, hearing loss plus a low humming sound in just ONE ear which stops when turning my head together with severe vertigo which comes and goes when turning my head,i also feel off balance and i failed the march on the spot test in my local ENT.Got MRI of the ears and part of the brain and they found nothing i mean not a sausage .Symptoms continue to this day

When T first started I went to all kinds of specialists and they all recommended I get an MRI. My insurance would have paid for it but I never got it because I read in different support groups that the MRI had made T worse because of the loud sounds and also read about people who got T right after an MRI. What do you think of that ? Also, what if you also have noise sensitivity along T? You mentioned other symptoms but no noise sensitivity (hyperacusis and others )

I just had my 1st ENT doc appt. Mild to moderate hearing loss (for decades tho) but now have developed tinnitus in 1 ear, since Jan. My other ear’s hearing normal, no tinnitus. ENT doc suggested an MRI. When I found out it was requested “with contrast”, I read about that & became more worried about injecting metals into my body with the dye . Now I’ve decided to wait unless I can do the MRI w/o contrast. The dye is scary to me and don’t think at this early stage, I want to go thru with this using contrast. When I tell the doc, my decision to pass at this time, he might not be happy with me, tho he might not really care. Thoughts?
Sir plz help me , i can hear some sound from my ear , while bedning down it increases more , ent has advised hrct of temporal bone. Sir kuch darne ki baat hai kya ? Plz reply sir .
The odd thing about tinnitus is that a doctor's good news that nothing is wrong is actually bad news to you lol. I've had all test an audiologist can do, an MRA, a CT, a neck ultrasound and an overall, neck and spine xray. I do have the cookie bite 4k to 8k mild hearing lose that I've had for several years, but no recent, progressive hearing loss with my latest sudden onset of complex tinnitus that is worse in my left ear. There's multiple sounds that I describe it (as a whole) as glass shattering in slow motion. The most bothersome sound though is a pulsatile hissing in my left. MRA showed nothing abnormal; however, the CT showed severe sinusitis, especially my left ethmoid, and the x-ray showed no c-curve in my neck, and spinal instability in my lower back and hips. So, I'm trying to get my sinusitis under control. Going back for another CT in six months and seeing a chiro for instability. Every neck and facial/sinus adjust does produce a lot of drainage. My tinnitus is a lot less bothersome since I've started going down this path.
If the onset of tinnitus in one ear is caused by, say a sleep apnea mouthguard…is that a mechanical issue with the jaw that, if correct, can eliminate or reduce the tinnitus?

A stand up open MRI will not be as loud. Or maybe do a head CT instead.

You need an MRI for Tinnitus if your Tinnitus stops with head movement and is on one side. This can be caused by an Acoustic Neuroma.
What kind of MRI? Brain MRI or ear MRI?
When getting an MRI, it typically shows both brain and temporal bone anatomy, which includes the ears.
