Odd... I had a dream like this once, although it was that Ozzy Osborne looking guy from the anime instead of Shin. Unless this is an mf-ing Jojo reference.
Apparently, there's an ongoing fanfic on AoO called Mask of Redemption that twists the HnK story and puts a less evil Jagi in Ken's place as the successor of Hokuto (he gets it by default as Ken disappeared prior to the series start so Ryuken names Jagi as the new successor as he's the only option left). It's very well written, and don't get me wrong, Jagi is still a complete bastard but he's less psychotic and homicidal. Also, he's got Bat as a tag along sidekick. I believe the author just finished the Shin/King arc.
Ken and Jagi both suffer from Buronson's early way of having Ken ragdoll all of his opponents. These are supposed to be tough adversaries, but they never even get a hit in. I think it was taken from old samurai/ninja movies where battles are decided with one solid hit
Ah, another victim to one of people's main gripes with HnK, insufficient screntime, couple that with lack of foreshadowing and worldbuilding i guess, looking back on it we did see some of Shin's manpower inside of Southern Cross and the sorrounding areas but lines claiming he rules the entire Kanto region and his final monologue would make one assume his influence would reach far wider, and leading up to the confrontation Ken only really sneaks around the city avoiding being caught by the guards, looking back, as many flaws as one could point to, the anime had a good idea with pacing out Shin's slow descent into desperation for not being on the receiving end of Yuria's love, as well as having a more in depth look into his more out there rogue's gallery. As for him being placed as the Martyr star, i think it fits pretty well on a poetic sense, as he martyrized himself for reasons and beliefs that were completely self imposed and spoke only to him, even knowing it would just lead to his almost certain death, while characters like Shu and Shiva's sacrifice had the explicit goal of actions for the greater good, both are forms of martyr's i guess but one is way more specific than the other, in this case being done so for benevolence
I really hate how they discarded such an interesting character as Shin, who also had an exceptional design and personality that formed many great villains of today like Griffith and Dio Brando. It’s really a shame what they did to him and how the author portrayed him as weak.
I actually feel like the English dub of the movie did the best job with Shin. In the movie, Shin has just lost all hope after the war and is trying to take what he can get before everyone eventually dies. Shin has gone a little crazy and genuinely believes that his actions will win Yuria's heart. The important thing about movie/anime Shin is that he's humanized by scenes of him being gentle with Yuria and in the case of the movie, attempting to stop Raoh out of social obligation. The problem is that the manga has its villains act horribly and then tries to redeem them with a quick tearful apology.
Honestly yeah! Wish they did more with Shin TBH. IIRC he was gonna be the only villain in the story until the story got extended into what we know today
The prob with Shin is tht his whole personality being centered around Yuria being his lover...which isnt a prob in and of itself but we never get to see any thing else abt Shin other than this aspect. Also Jagi manipulating Shin to turn on Ken is gd but they should hv fleshed out tht process more; why suddenly would Shin want to turn on Ken? One way i can think of to fix Shin is to make him perhaps taking Yuria not coz of love only but maybe also coz he wants to prove Nanto can surpass Hokuto; and in a way hes projecting it onto Ken. Tht would hv been way netter than the one dimensional simp villain we got. Hell even Juza was handled better by the base story in comparison to Shin and Juza isn't a character fleshed out enough either. Nevertheless i still love Shin, his trait of being an obsessive pyscho got me hooked onto him. Its just a shame we didnt get to see his full potential as a character
Also i think Shin should hv agreed to turn on Ken due to Jagi's manipulation coz: 1. Jagi can relate to the jealousy Shin has for Ken; after all as the olde brother he cant accept a little bro in Ken was better than him and tht would deffo hv struck a chord with Shin since Shin himself is also jealous of Ken 2. If Shin had the simple desire to make Yuria his own in order to prove Nanto is better than Hokuto then tht would provide agency to Shin, to why he would wanna agree with Jagi tht "yea im gonna turn on Ken whos my friend(we never get to see tht too which is a prob)
I remember watching the anime and being excited when Ken finally arrives at Southern Cross for the fight against Shin after trudging through what seems like dozens of episodes of filler Nanto villains of the week introducing Jim from Nanto Accounting. And being hyped from Shin killing Barcom with that sick shot of the eclipse behind him with his aura glowing. Only to be disappointed as Ken easily smokes Shin in under a minute
And somehow he's still not the most wasted character in this anime, You have many examples but the worst could be Han. Badass As heck, interesting, has always been mentioned with the other two main villains, And his fist is faster than light! What do you want more than that? I want to show him for the total of 10 panels and then just kill him and never mention him ever again. Yeah.
shin gaiden, kinda explained more on shin past, his past following hnk of course, is sad. it explains why he has obsession, also i could be wrong, but i think there is a semi offical hnk stat book, which explains how strong a character is Ken and kaioh are the strongest, bolge is ofc one of the weakest, which i find funny, cause shura sand spider is stronger then bolge lmao
Tangent: Am I the only one who thought Shin sucked in Ken's Rage 1? I didn't find him fun to play as in Dream Mode, or even fight against in the main story.
QUICK DISCLAIMER!
I'm mainly talking about manga shin here. Not ride on king, anime, or any other variants. Just base story.
The man who used to be my favorite villain, the anime did a great job at giving him more of a presence
Thank You For Loving HOKUTO NO KEN As I ✊👊🤜🤛
Wouldn't it be cool if HEAR ME OUT, He turned into a vampire after his death. I mean that coffin he was put on is pretty fancy

I remember reading that.
that sounds awesome ngl
Where can I read this?
@@nobodyhere8257 as I stated in the post, AoO. Archives of Our Own.

You said this perfectly.
I love shin (and bloom)

i like shin and believe that the anime did him better than the manga cause he had more scenes to develop him in my eyes
Buronson did not think manga would be popular back then so he dealt him quickly
@@brothersofwrath4785that probably could be why

Shin kinda inspired Dio Brando
